And why would anyone care about "perpetuating the idea that it is a forgone conclusion will only support Penn National's position that the bid and proposal process was not fair and just"? Penn National is the company that sued to stop table games in MD. I'd rather not see them get more of a market share than they already have in MD after that.
First, I support a decision for National Harbor. 100%. I think what Penn did to fight the legislation is beyond comprehension for a number of principled reasons.
Second, it's called fair and open competition. If Penn loses and can make the case that the State had "already" made up their mind.....the opening of said casino will end up in legal limbo for a good while.....while we all wait for its opening. The prior legal maneuvers of Penn National don't really matter anymore.
Third, every single time I play at CT or MDL someone at the table always gets into a discussion about when National Harbor will break ground and open. I politely say that the decision on a specific location has not actually been made yet and that there are 3 locations being considered. To which I usually get an incredulous look of disbelief because almost everyone I meet does not understand that National Harbor is not a done deal....yet. I am just trying to educate and inform as to the actual facts; not speculate.
Fourth, the State considered throwing out MGM and Fort Washington's bids recently due to previous and questionable business relationships at other out-of-state locations. However, certain agreements were in place or were put into place to satisfy the State that they could proceed with the evaluation of their proposals.
Lastly, my statement Re: "First of its kind and may be hard to refuse" (sic) was not my position, but that inferred/expressed in the WaPost article. As the article stated in further detail....it could be a ploy by Penn to have a locations that is a "push" on profits, while protecting its other locations. Their reply in the article "Absolutely not." I would argue that MGM-National Harbor (if it comes to fruition), Horseshoe Balt, and MD Live would really hurt Penn revenue.....they would be bottom feeders as far as entertainment venues are concerned.
Just offering facts and letting folks know there was an article in the WaPost for those interested.......
