It has been the rule since the room opened, iirc.

Live - table change - buy in for the max
Shoe - table change - take your whole stack

Funny thing is I see guys at the Shoe who want to rathole and get pissed cause they can't, and guys at Live who want to bring their whole stacks and get pissed, cause they can't.

Probably good for the economy, but so are most things that favor amateurs.

Thoughts on overall profitability of shoe 1/3 VS MDL 1/2?

I don't really play 1/2 / 1/3, but everything I've read on here and, more importantly, heard from friends tells me that 1/3 at the Horseshoe is softer than 1/2 at MDL.

right now I think md live due to fish being there for the promos.

horseshoe probably has players who either didn't want to wait on the long wait list at md live, or those who cant play at md live. (ie: md live dealers)

I play both the 1/2 at live and 1/3 at shoe, though my sample skews 80% to live due to convenience.

With the said, overall i agree with above. Be bet bet value hands at the shoe and get called by worse and rarely try to make anyone fold pretty much anything and you will make money.

However downside is on average, i find dealers at live MUCH better. There are exceptions both ways, but overall at shoe i seem to get in way less hands per hour.

Is Glen Burnie a safe area? Could someone find a good apt there for ~$1-1.3k/mo? Any other suggestions as to safe, solid living options near MDL also appreciated.

If you plan on renting an apartment in Glen Burnout, be sure to like meth!

There are plenty of studio/1br places in better areas, albeit a bit less close to MDL.

Haha, no thanks. I'd be interested in anything within a 25 min drive, with a preference for areas closer towards DC. Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't recommend Glen Burnie.

Columbia is a nice area. I really like it. It made money magazine's best places to live list. It's safe, lots of trees/parks, and tons of shopping/restaurants. Nightlife is lacking if you're into that though. 15 min or so drive to both ML and Horseshoe Balt depending on where in Columbia you live. Not sure exactly how much is out there in your price range, but sites like apartments.com are a good tool.

Thanks a lot for the information; Columbia sounds very promising.

I'm curious what the October promotions will be [at Maryland Live]. I was not impressed with the September offerings.

First, they raised the rake in mid-August, which discouraged me from playing on non-promotion days (Fri/Sat). I'm very unlikely to win a Sunday give-away since I no longer have any Fri/Sat hours, plus the big carry-over drawing is at midnight Sunday, which is too late for me since I have to work Monday morning. And then the flop promotions (Mon-Thurs) didn't pay as much unless you had the hours to qualify as a regular, but ML had already discouraged me from playing on the other days of the week.

I had been going to ML 2 or 3 times per week over the summer. I've only been there once in the past month or so, since they raised the rake. I'm hoping the October promotions will be enticing to all players.

For the first time ever, as far as I know, the market actually responded to the lack of promotions at maryland live and the shoe was busier on some days. Hopefully that will be enough for live to step it up a bit next month.

The market always responds. The market has been responding. The shoe has to spend $2k per hour to barely stay ahead of Live at peak hours, since players seem to otherwise prefer Live (generally). Assuming every pot is max raked (obviously not the case) they are essentially breaking even if they net 9-10 extra tables. You'll forgive me for not being too impressed.

Think the comment that they are breaking even is a little bit off. The promotions are funded from bbj that is completely separate from casino rake income. Netting an extra 9-10 tables nets them that many more tables rake per hour in real income. Promotion doesn't cut into profit at all.

BBJ drop never becomes part of casino profit. That money by definition needs to back to players.

That's true but if we only count jackpot funds they are losing money fullspread at $2k/hr. They can cannibalize the jackpot to produce operating revenue for a while, but that can't go on forever.

My conspiracy theory is that MDL is saving up for when MGM opens so that they can put out the same kind of borderline insane promos they put on when Horseshoe opened.

On a scale of gulf of Tonkin to tinfoil hats and lizard people I would put that theory somewhere near southeast asia.

I don't think my post should have been moved. It was critical of ML, but ending with the suggestion of making the promotions more inclusive for all players. It never mentioned any other casino. But whatever.

If you want conspiracy theories, here's one. There is a UNLV.edu web site that keeps track of how much each casino makes each month. https://www.library.unlv.edu/center_...st-2015.html-0 . I will be curious to check out the numbers when the September numbers come out, to see how the affect of ML's poor promotion losing players and HS gaining in players from their promotions.

Horseshoe's numbers in general (not just poker) were up a bit in August. I guess the anniversary promotions they were running brought in some more gamblers. On page 6, it lists the numbers of money earned by each casino for poker, in dollars per day per table. All of the numbers stay pretty consistent over the past year, except Horseshoe in August, went from around $1,000 per day per table (a number which it has maintained over the past year) to nearly $6K in August!

If that's possible, if that's not a typo, I expect big changes as the competing casinos try to replicate that huge increase in income. But that jump seems too big to be true. Or I'm misinterpreting the data somehow.

After rereading the post you referenced, you're right that I shouldn't have moved it. Do you want me to move it back when I'm able to do so?

Dealer at MDL mentioned a plan to have a ONE MIRRION DOLLAR bad beat jackpot, presumably to coincide with MGM opening? #tonkin

(this post should also be moved back to the MDL thread.)
