The tournament was well-run by the Heartland staff. The tournament is not "put on" by the Majestic. The Heartland staff comes into the host casinos and runs the tournament. The tournament has a great structure. Long levels, lots of starting chips, slow escalation of the blinds. I will play in this again in the Spring.

My only complaint was that on day one of the main event, we played poker for something like 8 or 9 hours and there was no lunch or dinner break -- only short breaks after every few levels. The Majestic does have a sandwich bar next to the poker room, but it is even worse than anything they have at the Horseshoe. My point is that I was hungry. So, if you play the Heartland, bring some snacks in your pocket that you can eat during the short breaks.
Rocco, I know this post is old but I thought it was rather funny when I was reading it. I am a regular player at the Majestic and know all the the Staff very well. The Heartland does not come into casinos and run the tournaments for them, the casino hosting runs the event and does everything , Heartland is just there watching. If you want to complain about the blind structure or lack of breaks, yes that is because it has to be run the way that HEartland Poker Tour says. The staff all works ridiculously long hours, while the tour is there, having to deal with irrate poker players, poker players who think they know everything, and trying their best to make sure everything is accurate. I played Heartland several places, as well as playing every Heartland at Majestic, and they do run it better than any other casino. I remember when Amy, the tournament director was 9 months pregnant at Majestic, and she told me she had worked roughly about 60 hours a week when they were there. With all the people and chaos, everything is not always going to run totally smooth, but they do a fantastic job! I know I couldn't deal with all of it, and most poker players put in their shoes would lose their mind if they had to run all of that.

What's funnier is the Horseshoe's WSOP was not all that great run. The registration was ridiculous, they let players keep entering with full chip stacks for hours, when you may have been sitting at your table for 2 hours, there were people coming in that sometimes had more chips than people at the table had, the WSOP takes so much money out of the prize pool, and from what I hear, the supervisors there all get a cut for each player that registers in every tournament there. You never know what they are taking out of the prize pool.

There are still people out there that would much rather play at Majestic Star than Horseshoe Casino. The staff is so much friendlier and they are down to earth. Joe, Darrell, both of the Mike's and Amy are great people and they know me well, as well as all of their players. I feel at home there, I get comped easily, not like at Horseshoe where it is like pulling teeth to get comps, and I can go in on any night and not have to worry about waiting for 80 people on a list ahead of me to get into a game. And all of their games are 10 handed, not like the 9 handed tables at Horseshoe where if 2 people get up the game is short handed.

I can't wait for the next Hearland coming, and I just had to stick up for the staff at Majestic because people like to dump on them because it is "No Horseshoe." Unless your a high limit player at Horseshoe, you get treated like crap, but the Majestic treats all their players like they are a welcomed guest, and I have nothing but good things to say about them! And next time you want to say that the Heartland people ran a well tournament, you need to get your facts straight first and realize that the Majestic does run the tournament and the tournament director there does ALL of the work to run the Heartland, not the Heartland Poker Tour, and I know she does not have it easy when they are in town. Maybe you should take a trip there and tell them they THEY ran a good tournament...

I have been splitting my time at both the Shoe and Majestic. Majestic is just like any other casino. They have good and bad floors as well as dealers. And yes Amy works her a#$ off running those tourneys. Muchtosay I have no problems getting comps at either place. What problems do you have at the Shoe? All you do is go to the podium and give them your card. Not hard at all.

I played in a tourny there last week. I enjoyed myself --- The other place down the road has been getting my business, but I think I am going to spend more time at the Star playing tourneys. The structure is GREAT , the floor staff good , the dealers good, and they fixed the place up a bit. It isn't as beautiful as the place down the road , but it is definitely upgraded.
The BB was like $40,000 and there were about 30 people in the tourney I played in.

Re: Majestic Star Casino, Gary IN

I still play at Majestic 4 or 5 times a month and enjoy the break from Horeshoe. Ritzel, Amy, Mike are all awesome.

The only complaint I have is the garbage always in the room, not the dirt bag players that wander in after midnight. The actual garbage that is always left under the tables and in the cup holders.

Other than that I think they are great option to have.

I agree that their tourny structure is better too.

I went to majestic last weekend for the first time since Horseshoe has been open because of the extreme wait lists at the shoe.
I liked the new felt, but they really need to change out those disgusting old chips. Overall, the play was juicy and I will be returning.

I've heard the HPT pulled out of Majestic for good. Can anyone confirm this?

I asked the question on the Heartland facebook page and they assured me they would be having a stop there in 2010...since it's home of largest prize pool on their tour. Also my buddy got an e-mail from them and it showed them having a stop in July there that they would be having; even though it's not listed on their site.

Thanks for the info! Despite the bad structure during the middle levels, I like playing this when it hits Majestic. Just plan for poor registration process at the casino and make sure you get your Polio shot before playing with the Majestic's chips!

In the grand scheme of things, the Heartland registration process is Infinity times better than that of the WSOP-C @ the 'Shoe(sorry Jeremy...you know it). Heartland you can buy-in at any time for the Main Event or any of the Qualifiers while they are running Satty's at the cage. I loved being able to buy-in @WSOP at 3am after playing a Satt. Now I know that won't be the case at Hammond, but being able to register for any event from say 10am to 10pm would alleviate so many of the problems with waiting forever. I got to the 340 buy-in over an hour early and didn't get into the event until after the first break(granted with a full stack). So if we can combine the 2 processes we have a great system.

Re: Majestic Star Casino, Gary IN

I asked at Majestic and they said that Heartland will be back in July and that they will have some qualifiers starting in the next few months. I checked the Heartlands website, it's not up yet, but they assured me they will be back. I saw they have some new weekly tournaments too, and bigger chip stacks on their Deep Stack events...

Kind of far in advance to be making plans for a company that is in bankrupcy, isn't it? You still going to be in buisness in July???

From what I hear, they are definately having a Heartland. I saw the posters up for the qualifiers when I was in the room. The company might be in bankruptcy, but I don't think that affects every aspect of the casino...

I am also hearing that the HPT plans on having an event in July. With the bankruptcy there are still some issues that need to be cleared before anything is confirmed.

Bzump..

Does the 2/5 go all the time on the weekends?

How does it play versus the Shoe(I would rate the shoe as tighter than most 2/5 live games by far).

What are the weekend tournies like?

2/5 rarely goes there anymore. If it does go, it will be later and usually breaks after 5 or 6 hours.

Weekend tournies are decent, well structured but small turnouts of no more than 5 tables and 3-4 on average.

Don't bother. I tried a few weekends ago and started an interest list for 2-5 on a friday night and it got no more than 3 people all night. Just play at the horseshoe, you don't have to deal with the gangbanger low-lifes stinkeye'ing you after you take their monies.

I don't like either the 1/1 nl Holdem, nor the 1/3. And apparently, they no longer spread 1/2. No 1/2 the day I was in there, within the last week.

Ya, I thought it was great when they added the 1/3, but to that and 1/1 was just dumb.
