The rake here is pretty insane compared to every casino I've ever been to. I was playing 2/5 the other day, and it's 5+2, which is standard, but:

-They rake pre flop, which is rare for SoFla

And the truly absurd thing they do:

At 2/5, if you raise pre and everybody folds, they take $2 for the promotional/bbj, and they take $1 in rake. So when you steal the blinds, you only win $4 instead of $7. I honestly have no clue how they could rationalize taking $2 for the promotions.

I was at a very loose passive table, and there were a bunch of hands where I took it down pre, either just the blinds, or raising over 1 or more limpers. In a 6 hour session, I probably had $75+ go towards promotions and rake than I would at my usual casinos (Isle and Hard Rock). Safe to say I will not be playing here with any kind of regularity.

Has anybody ever complained to this room's management? I can't believe there are too many serious regs here that just tolerate this blatant robbery.

Anyone go here recently?

I'm surprised that they don't open until 10 AM. Is that still the opening time?

Yes, that's still the weekday opening time, but they're not the only room that does that down here. For example, Gulfstream doesn't open until 10 either. In my experience, the non-Indian poker rooms in the Miami area are either open from 9:00am - 3:00am, or they are open from 10:00am - 4:00am. Of course, on weekends and holidays they are all open 24 hours.

Was in Miami for work and stopped by Magic City. Most people did speak Spanish here, but that is more a cultural thing of miami. I actually enjoyed this little aspect and felt like I was traveling abroad in another country.

The main issue I had about this casino is the rake. While all other casinos I've played in have a "no flop no drop" policy, Magic City rakes up to $4 preflop ($2 promo + $2 rake) and apparently counts your uncalled bet as the pot size. Was kind of absurd. Overall game had a few decent regulars and it's not really worth it if not for being the closest casino to my hotel.

Wish it was like this every day but currently the pros are in Vegas. When the pros return those calling stations will burn off their gambling allowance for the month quickly and you won't see them for a while.

I watched the video. I believe his story in general. I haven’t played at magic city but i’ve played a few times in Hialeah. Sounds like the exact same environment.

I think when you’re a minority in a place, it’s best to stay in your own lane. Not trying to justify the floor’s actions, but you shouldn’t be trying to needle someone else at the table, especially when you’ve already been kicked out before. The action there is amazing. Just suck it up and take their money.

At the very least, at least now you can see what minorities have to face on a regular basis.

Yeah, Magic City Casino poker room and Hialeah Casino poker room are similar with a lot of Spanish being spoken and mostly non-white players. I think if you're playing there as a white person, you just have realize your environment and try not get into any situations (even if you aren't doing anything wrong, such as it sounds was the case with Lex). Granted, he probably shouldn't have made the belly jingling comment.

Also, I would have been totally fine with the three cops outside as I was escorted out. This guy was just yelling at you and wanting to fight outside. In today's world, he could have been out there waiting for you with a gun.

really impressive you were able to write these two sentences within 30 seconds of one another and not experience any cognitive dissonance

the length of the ban seems unfair, but I think his conclusion is pretty suspect, most likely the floor didn't like him for other reasons...I only played a couple times at magic city like 4 years ago, but I'm pretty sure there were other white guys there...lot of uber drivers IIRC.
