I see, so my (very) basic understanding of business does not seem to make any sense into what casinos would want.
astrobel, yeah, I get a place like that would not be hugely profitable, but I think it would do a great deal when it comes to grow the community, especially in a country that is not open to global online poker.
Having lived in the uk for a while, and it being a country with access to global online poker, the poker community there is huge. And I think it is due to the fact that poker is so accessible to everyone. I learned to play on pub poker nights, where the tournament would be a £5 rebuy structure, and we would get together around 30-40 twice or three times a week. Then at university, the school would promote having a poker society where we would get together for very low stakes tourneys or cash games.
I overall think Spain has the capacity for having a much better poker community, where the game does not represent degenerate gambling, but a strategy game that teaches an incredible amount of probability and game theory.
Regarding the profitability of growing the community through a place like the one I mention, I think companies like Winamax, etc, could jump in on making poker more readily available (like PartyPoker in Dusk till Dawn, or Pokerstars at Hippodrome, or 888 at Aspers in London).
I am still unsure if this is a rant thread or a call for action thread
But the fact that the best spanish players, French players, italian players, etc decided to move away from their countries to pursue and become the best in the world....kinda tells a very sad story.
