It's Chinese New Year, is it busy in Macau right now?

Casinos seem pretty busy but it's quiet outside of the gaming floors

Managed to play about 2 hours of 25/50 HKD at Wynn Macau last week. Oooooooooooh my god is that game soft, and there's a ton of money on the table. If I wasn't jetlagged and falling asleep I could have made a bundle. Such bad play. Some dude nearly folded his boat when I showed my flush. Could just be because of the holiday weekend or whatever, but man oh man how I wanted to stay.

Only Wynn, 100/200 HKD , rake 5% cap 200 hkd. Usually no more than one table.

During February
Minimum 50/100 hkd
My opinion:
February is good if you are playing 300/600 and higher, otherwise you are finding a busy waiting list with many regulars players and strong field. 50/100 and 100/200 Usually 3 or two weak regular players all others are good. There is one fish on the two tables.
Wynn doesn't open table with limits les than 50/100

Half an hour, give or take. And they texted me (on my US cell) to let me know the seat was ready. If I had wanted to play 50/100 or higher, there was almost no wait.

My wife had been in Macau for a month. She's not a poker player/gambler at all. Between that and my jetlag, I had about zero time in my two nights there to explore before we left Macau for Phuket and our honeymoon.

I arrived at Wynn just after 4pm (in Thursday) and there was a 55 person wait list for lowest limit 50/100. 4hrs later and the list had barely moved so I left the casino for some dinner. Finally got a page just before 11pm.

Unless you can avoid the wait, it's not really worth playing as previously reported its like a 9:1 reg to fish ratio.

I wish they'd loosen the table restrictions. With gaming revenues falling and scores of empty baccarat tables, why not appease the long list of poker players?

The 55 person long line was only because it was Chinese new year.

The warmer months are generally not the action months in Macau.. WSOP itself has minimal effect.

I'm on holiday in Hong Kong so took a day trip to visit Macau not really expecting to play because of the stories of long lists. I found the Wynn at 1pm (basically a smaller version of the Vegas casino) easy enough and added my name to the short list for the 25/50HKD Holdem game. I didn't see any PLO running, there were 4 X NLH limits in play up to 100/200HKD. I waited less than 20 minutes for a seat & was the only westerner in the game. I usually play 1/3 or 2/5 in Vegas & 1/2 in London FYI.

The game was softer than most games I've played live at the above mentioned stakes, however it seemed to run slower in pace. The dealers spoke English but quite poorly (1000x times better than I speak Manadtin or Cantonese btw..) so you have to be very clear if your betting a specific amount with a large chip etc etc. The game was very friendly with most players making an effort to smile, nod or have general table talk with me after a hand. Biggest difference is that it played DEEP... I'd say that 6/9 players had over 15000HKD in front which kept it fun & exciting.

I'd say about 30/40% of the higher games had westerners sitting and it all seemed a bit clicky with lots of standing chatting in groups. Overall I'd recommend a visit for recreational players wanting a smaller game just for the experience - judging by my table the games are very beatable and play deep enough to warrant the 350HKD round trip from HK (you'll need your passport for customs btw).

I assume that you mean the platinum series. you should stay near to City of Dreams, 25/50 runs there all the time and rake is not too bad.

^ send them a msg on fb. If you are on a tight budget you can probably get a hotel somewhere cheapish for 600hkd and take a short/v.cheap bus trip to CoD each day.

Sharaton/Holiday inn is only a short walk and maybe around 1k/night. You could also look on air bnb or ask poker players if they know of rooms available which tend to be 500/night but most are the other side of macau so it will be an extra 120 on taxi's.

Im from NYC but i have family in macau so i decided to visit this past year..Got there in early Sept first thing I did was go to Wynn. The tables were packed 4 tables running I was on the waiting list for 25/50 waited an hour. Sat down bought in for 4000 hkd (500$ usd )..god it was bad usually when i play 1/3 or 2/5 in the states u get a bunch of 5$ chips but here its 4 1000$ ones its like playing super turbo..I had to buyin another 4000 so i could feel comfortable, there were lots of ppl buying in for the min 2000 hkd and just sitting.. Action was so-so lots of limps and small raises nothing crazy def no fishes mostly grinders.

I then came back to Macau a second time in mid Jan this time i tried out The Venetian. Let me tell you this place is awful. Came here at 2pm 0 tables running so i played bac, table finally had 6 players at like 3pm so i sat down to test it out..This game is worse than Wynn by 10 times everyone is folding, they do have decent chip stacks around 5-10k hkd but they're all sitting with ipads and headphones watching or playing games on it.I just couldnt take it anymore and got up,I do not recommended going to The Venetian at all !!
I've never been to City of dreams so if anyone could tell me how the games are there ty.

Interesting, another Poker Room in Macau. Can't be a bad thing, hope they have a smart management team unlike Galaxy. Which has good intentions but terribad execution.

Will go to Macau next week, will definitely check out this new room.

Btw, have a few K in Stars$, would like HKD. Let me know if interested.

I think Babylon is a superbad location for a new room, I mean many don't even know where it is, and rich whales def would never go there.

If MBP wanted to open a new room why couldn't they have negotiated with Sands across the road? Lots of floor space and even turning some gaming area to retail soon so they're looking to diversify which is perfect for poker.. usually good atmosphere inside the casino too. Plus afaik MBP brings some VIPs which Sands would love, give that some of their VIP clubs area sit idle these days.

MBP is owned by a junket operator. My guess is that the junket now owns the entire venue (Babylon) and possibly all of fisherman's wharf (or they are a partner). That is speculation of course, as I'm no longer in Macau.

This poker room will be a pet project for the junket operator to have his own game. Much like the original owners of LKF when they opened a poker room, which closed after a month.

No tournaments/tournament tables can be run at Sands. More specifically, tournaments which relate to online operators such as WPT/Our game, Tencent, Boyaa, etc. Even some issues have happened with live tournament brands such as APT at Venetian which had to be cancelled last year. LVS is not favourable to poker operators when it comes to holding tournaments.

Correct owned by junket. Incorrect owns entire venue/fisherman's wharf. More rooms mean poker is definitely picking up in Asia. Good for poker overall.

Does this mean the gaming commission increased the number of seats allowed for poker??
