People there line up for a machine like people in the States wait for a Disneyland ride. Totally insane.

The "insanity" of Chinese gamblers in Macau is precisely the reason why the poker industry is drooling at the prospects of introducing Texas Hold'em to Macau and the rest of the Chinese-speaking world.

The 007 movie Casino Royale, which opens in China on January 30, will be the first catalyst.

I'm pretty sure the DVD is already out over there.

Professional gamblers play Mah Jong in China. There is a World Series of Mah Jong 2007 being held at the Wynn's Macau. I will be playing in it.

http://www.mahjongnews.com/

If you want to play in it, I could mentor you. pm me.

Practice online at: http://www.homahjong.net/system/howeb.htm?page=Main

There is also the APT and PAPT folding out for 2007, I will prob be in the HK, Macau events. I was in the Singapore event last month modelling for PokerStars Oriental fashion collection.

MahJong, a topic I've been arguing with some friends for a long time. I have a friend that believes he is a professional mah jong player that thinks that luck is 55% of the game. Even with such a small edge he thinks that he can beat the game just playing with his 30 or so circle of friends and make a decent living. (high stakes)

I always tell him that he should study more about the game and that maybe math or tells can play a part and help him gain a bigger edge. yet he is stubborn and believes that at 55% he is maxing his +EV. How can I tell to study more and be a better player? He is already fairly good but it is just experince. (About 15 years)

Any suggestions to make the next level? Never thought I'd be able to discuss MJ on a poker forum. lol

Don't know where to start, in the American style luck plays a bigger role than the HK rules.

Maths and tells are useful, MJ is an optimising game. You try to draw to the best hand given a time limit (Before your opponent goes out). So you need to estimate what hand your opponents are trying to draw into and what is da best hand you can make within that time.

That's all I'm going to say in a pubic forum.

People seemed to be real uneducated and rude
I don't want to sound racists, but Chinese people seem to be very rude, have no manners and no concern for their appearance. It's funny that most Japanese are the polar opposite of this.

Arbitrage,

if you are an american, this might well be the funniest thing I have ever read on a message board. There is no nation on this planet more rude, devoid of manners, and care less of their apperance then the obese americans.

Thanks for making me laugh before I go to sleep.
Have you ever been to Mexico?

If you believe this about America then you seriously have not done much travelling ... The US isnt even CLOSE to the top of the list.

Was in Macau in January. Nothing much changed since the last time I went. Poker is still non existant there.

However, there was a real big plus and that was the Wynn. The place was nice and very comfortable. Can't even compare it to the Sands. At the Sands I didn't feel safe, the place was full of gangsters and triads.

The casino floor at the Wynn is huge and provides action for everyone. I was surprised they had tables as low as $100hkd minimum. Very pleasant trip and looking forward to go back there.

I've given hope on playing poker there, who knows when that will happen. Any updates on poker in Korea? Do they have small NL games at Walker Hill?

My family and I are from Hong Kong, and we like differentiate ourselves from people coming from China. Your above description of Chinese people matches our stereotype of people from China.
Concur with the Japanese comment. People in Japan generally are very polite and treat guests with much respect. Lots of bowing and respects for people around them.
Edit: Ah screw it.

Is Macau a must see? I'm going to HK soon for about a week and I'm wondering if I should split off 2-3 or more days for Macau. Not really looking to spend tons of cash but if its awesome I'll go.

Macau is an absolute must see!
No poker unfortunately. Some places are amazing though. BUT if you are not looking to spend money then just stay in HK. Time of your life in Macau will run you about $500-700usd a day.

You can go cheaper but you'll be missing out.

All IMO however, you may be interested in other forms of entertainment.

167- I know how to have the time of your life in Macau for only 50USD a day. They must have ripped you off or something.

And I would NOT expect ANY Texas Hold'em in Macau until WPT arrives at the MGM Grand Macau in either 2008 or 2009.

LOL. I think the standards are different, or you might like to enlighten us. I'll start, my first stop always in Macau is the Rio. Just that place alone will run me about $200-300usd (if I want stars)

There are other fun places at very reasonable prices but I like to go to the better ones. Degen can find all the more inexpensive places in Thailand. When you in Macau, you might as well go to the first class establishments. Can you name a place that's better? (Under 500usd)

AS I read, you guy mention, there are a lot of loan shard , gangster, triad in Macau. I guess there is very safe to open up a game such as texas holdem. Imagine, there is one of this guy in the game. And you about to go All-In. And this guy say "I kill you if you go all in". What do you do? Who protect you?. you know how it is. I am sure you have met this opponent in real life game at casino. But in casino of America, there is security in the casino to protect you. and there is police out side to protect you. So, you are not scare. But in Macau, casino don't care. If they do, there would not be so many loan shark in their casino. or maybe security even scare of them. And outside, police probably useless with this guys more or less. If they do care, there probably not so many gangster and triad existed. I heard these triad are related to government at some level. Anyway, game that you against casino is safe. but players against players is dangerous. I would think. that if you play day in and day out. But I would be interest to see if they have texas holdem game there soon.
