Not strict, but if you're wearing a baseball cap with the visor forward, they'll ask you to spin it around so it's on backwards. Once you get to the poker room, nobody cares if you put it back.

San Va is 100 HKD a night but was full when I tried to go. I'm staying at the Tong Fong for 170 HKD, it's next to the San Va. It's a 5 minute walk from the Grand Lisboa.

I just checked my points, have 936 after almost 30 hours of play. Need 1200 to get 1400 promotional chips. Somebody in the poker room told me you get 30 points an hour, not sure if true but seems about right.

Messaged you yesterday TAT. I'm heading to the GL now, was there before. I'm up for a beer let me know. be here til july 7

I think they all have daily limits else they would run the risk of running out of money in the machines. The limit can be raised to around 5K USD/day though that's the highest I was able to get. They claim the limit is "for your own protection" but it reality I think it's so people don't suck the machines dry as happens frequently during holidays.

It's good to have a high limit when traveling since they usually give you an excellent exchange rate but charge you a service fee.

The Macau ATMs I used in the Grand Lisboa only had a per transaction limit. I was able to hit them three times in a row in order to hit my bank imposed daily limit.

I don't think they care how many times a day you use them because they get their fee for every transaction.

I have been considering moving to China and would want to play live poker occasionally in Macau. Would anyone be able to recommend cities to live in that are accessible to Macau, maybe 1-2 hours away?

Would you recommend any cities on China's mainland? HK is expensive and it seems like longtime stay visas are not all that easy to get.

^^zhuhai is just over the border in the mainland and cheap to live. on the other hand it's quite a scummy place and long stay visas are arguably harder to get for china than for hong kong

Hi, I live in Zhuhai , .. what do you mean by "scummy" ? And long stay visas are quite easy to get these days if you get it in your home country .. just apply wait one or two days and you got one .. pretty straight forward ..

I agree that Zhuhai isn't scummy. Probably one of the nicer places to live in China.

Have they extended the Zhuhai-Macau border crossing past midnight yet?

Zhuhai was voted best city to live in, in China, in 2009 or 2010

It would probably be a mistake to let it open past midnight. The value in Macau would decrease imo. Would hurt the hotel business as well. Currently the price difference in almost everything is huge. I'd think they want to keep it everything as is. Sucks for us, but good for the local economy and business owners.

Any idea what the exchange rate at the major casinos is for USD? better to wire the cash to the casino or w/d from ATM and exchange?

I agree also Zhuhai is a nice place to live also. For daily commutes for poker however, it really depends where you live exactly, as Zhuhai is very large. If you lived just across the border, in Gongbei, then its ok, you can literally walk over. I used to own two new townhouses in Horizon Cove, a luxury complex in Zhuhai, but the time to the Macau border was almost 40 minutes by taxi , so while the place was nice, I found it too inconvenient for my weekend poker runs. I sold both apts, made a good profit and simply bought two other apts in Macau instead. As a place to retire, i think Zhuhai is a good choice also.

The exchange rate is given by your home bank. It is extremely rare for your bank rate to be worse than the exchange rate you get at casino.
