HG and the Bike. If you play big there are games at Commerce too.

I'm moving from Denver to the LA area at the end of the month for a new job. I've played at Commerce a few times before but I'll become a new reg in the low-mid stakes fixed limit games soon. I don't know anyone in CA so I hope to meet a few 2+2ers.

Quick question for L.A. players : Do you think Commerce will ever increase their stupid max BIs?

Starting off with 20 BBs at 1-2 is plain ******ed...Chip down to 20, finally get a hand, double to forty...chip down, get a hand double up to 60...

Is the only other option to hit up the 2-3 at the Bike?

Commerce will probably never change their buy ins. Though they did add a 5-5 game with $ 500max this year. Bike is your best option unless you play 5/10 or higher.

Probably never because even with their stupid buy in structure, they have no problem filling the seats. I am a huge advocate for the 2/3 game at The Bike even though players are slightly better.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way. At least at the Bike you can buy in for $300 at the 2/3 and play a full 100 bb with some of the players at the table. Most of the folks who buy in shorter are just awful, not some kind of 33bb expert shortstackers.

Throw in the free food because this game is in top section and it seems to me to be the best deal in town.

Any ideas on why so many LA places insist on a 30-40 bb buy in structure? Is it supposed to make the fish last longer while paying as much rake while their money lasts? I don't know that it really does; if they could buy into a 1/2 game with $100 to 200 maybe they would play that instead of playing 2/3 or 3/5 and being so short.

Yeah that's pretty much the idea. And when the fish chip on a heater they don't get stacked by a competent player who just sits to cover them. The games last longer. And there's generally more action.

I was playing there today and someone was on their third missed blind. The dealer took 2 chips off their stack and added it to the pot pre-flop. Can someone elaborate for me.

Also, I busted out and was asked to post to get a hand. Is this standard here in CA, I have always got a free entry if I bust out. This is kind of a KITN if you as me.

Thanks-

Never played at HG fwiw but in the SoCal rooms I have played I've never seen a dealer take chips from someone's stack for missing 3 blinds, or any amount for that matter. Doesn't seem correct to me.

You shouldn't have to post if you busted out, unless you went to the ATM and missed your blind. If you rebuy immediately and it's not your blind you should be good to go.

Bravo live app seems to only track Commerce, is there any plans in the works for the other 4 major rooms to get on board?

Certain games at certain casinos take a "lobby fee" or whatever they call it, it's to cut down on walkers. Smart move if you ask me.

And I'm certain that the OP was asked to post because he missed. There's no other reason.

Hey LA players, I'm considering moving in with a friend who goes to SCUHS (from what I can tell its in the middle of La Habra)- the Bicycle Casino is about 30 minutes away from that, I was wondering is there anywhere to play poker closer than that? I really don't wanna drive 30 minutes to play every day.

Doesn't have to be a big casino, just 1 or 2 tables of NLH is fine.

Thanks guys!

Both Commerce casino and The Gardens(Hawaiin Gardens) might be a couple of minutes closer. It would depend on traffic conditions. In the LA area we do not have smaller casinos with a couple of tables except maybe Crystal Park which is in Compton anyways and a complete dump.

Interesting and yes I agree it's a smart rule. Walkers definitely hurt the game.

i'm surprised huntington beach isn't talked about more as a living option for LA grinders. its right on the ocean and the commute isnt too bad for bike/commerce/hawaiian gardens.

Is there usually a lot of traffic between LA and Vegas on weekends, especially Sunday afternoon coming back to LA?

Yes, which is why I usually wait until night to leave Vegas heading home. Or Monday.

Friday evening/night going and Sunday afternoon leaving can be torture. Especially if it is a holiday weekend or special even.

Thanks, I suspected it would be pretty bad.

Obviously it varies but I have made it back from Vegas to LA in about 4 hours on a couple of Sunday afternoons. I always use Google maps traffic to get a better idea of conditions knowing things can change fairly quickly.

I noticed on this thread mention of the San Manuel Casino in Highland near San Bernadino, but no specifics. Could someone tell me about the Limit games there compared to Commerce and Bicycle? I'm sure the number of players are way less at San Manuel, but are there still plenty of tables to select from in the 5/10 to 10/20 range? I've been away from the game for awhile and may start out at lower stakes, so do they also offer games at the 2/4 to 4/8 levels? Thanks!

By the way, I now live in Upland which is about 10 miles closer to San Manuel than the Commerce and Bicycle, plus I suspect traffic as a whole will be slower to those two, so I'm hoping San Manuel is in the general ballpark with the other two as far as LH is concerned.

This is informative thanks, but where's the love for LHE? Is there a comprehensive list of what each cardroom spreads and the drops? Last time I was in the area I was pleasantly surprised to see the 8/16 at Commerce increase from 4+1, 1 no flop; to 5+1, 1+1 no flop.

I'm going to be in town next weekend. I hate to ask stupid question, but I'm mainly looking for info on 4/8, 8/16, 20/40, and low stakes NLHE. Is the Bike's 2/3 100-300 still 5+1? What's the drop on the 5-5 NL?
