Thanks. Like I said, they were guesses. I never play 5/10. Well, not in LA.

Can anyone comment on these 5 casinos as far as PLO action is concerned?

Bike has been running 5/5 PLO most nights for last couple weeks, good games.
Gardens runs 5/5 most times, can be good action or a lot of props.
Commerce spreads only bigger PLO recently (10/20 etc).

Hi,

I'm in LA for a few nights next weekend and wanted to know the best venue for a small buy in tournament (150 or less but would pay more if it's a great bet) on the Thursday or Friday? I'm in downtown LA so the Bike and Commerce should both be easy to get to but having never played in either I'd like to get some opinions.

Cheers

You should consider the Hustler as well.

Thanks, I didn't know about that place. Do all of the tournaments get a good amount of people or are there any nights at places that will be very quiet and I should avoid?

Define "good amount." What's good to you may not be good to someone else.

Legends of Poker is going on at The Bike right now though so there should be plenty tourney players. Go to their website or Twitter to see what's running. Commerce and Hustler have sites/twitter feeds also.

As a tourist from the midwest, I only get to play in L.A. about every 5 years.

Last time I played the 4 big rooms and received good advice --- i.e. "always use the valet-don't go in the self parking area."

Next week I get to play the 3 other rooms -- HG, Crystal, and Normandie.
Any important safety (or other) tips I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Yes, avoid Normandie and Crystal.

Are you just going to those rooms to cross them off the list or are you genuinely interested in playing there?

FWIW I've played at Normandie and Crystal and never felt in danger, but I definitely prefer any of the other rooms over those two.

When I signed up for a Player's Card at Crystal they gave me a free meal immediately, while I was seated at a 100 NL game. This was years ago though, not sure if they still do that or if it's open to people outside CA.

Why do you want to play at either of these? Does Normandie even have NL? Stick with HG. You should be safe, unless you hit the jackpot. Then you might be in danger of getting run over.

This. Those are SUPER sketchy. Stick to the larger casinos and you'll be happy and (relatively) safe.

I'm sure you are a bucket-lister or a chip collector. My advice- go play Normandie, then Crystal, then HG. End up at HG since this is the best place to play of the three. ( and makes the most sense mapping it out, route-wize) Way more game choices.

^This. Def. avoid the latter. Crystal Meth Casino has worst action, worst area of town, worst games, worst everything.

Yes, normandie has NL cash. Shipped a 10k guarantee Sunday donkfest a few months back and they had 2-yellow chip NL games going the whole time. Still a shythole tho. Tourney donks were all-time worst IMO. If I were op I'd just say he went there but really don't go, and just head straight to the gardens

Depending on where player is staying, a drive to Pechanga or San Manuel might be worth it.

Now San Manuel I actually like. Very nice casino. Haven't been in a few years though since I'm so close other places with more action.

haha - this is one of the best comments I have ever gotten on 2+2.

Thanks to all who made comments and suggestions. I played all three of them;

HG -- what a hoot! I didn't know there were that many really bad players in the whole world.

Normandie -- Very friendly. Not crowded inside or in parking lot.

Crystal -- yuck

Trip report? How much did you clean the HG donks for?

I keep hearing mentions ITT about a 2/5 or 3/5 game at the Bike. I play there all the time and only know about a 2/3 game with a buyin of $100-300 and a 5/5 game with buyin of $300-1000. Am I missing something?

If you are a reg in the top section, please say hi. You can't miss me; I'm a 6'2" redhead. I'm also at Hawaiian Gardens on Mondays.
