the easiest game to win money in is $100-400 buyin $1-2 blinds PLO. the rake is less than in holdem and the blinds are less so u can sit back and nit it up while still buying in deep, most NL games, except for the stakes way too high for me, u can only buyin very short. i averaged $35 an hour for the 3 nights i played here.. i also won a little in $20-40 stud, but i feel the variance in it isnt worth it and the $10 per half hour time charge feels much higher than elsewhere.
Just got back from 3 days at Commerce and loved your story. Reason players don't flip over their hands when they are supposed to is the dealers are terrible and don't run the game properly and the few that do get berated from the players and the floor doesn't do the right thing and have their backs.
I was playing Big O and this donkey with no money gets felted for like the 3rd time and throws his cards viciously at dealer and one card hits the floor. Dealer asks him not to do it and he goes ape and plays the race card. He is black and she is Asian. Floor comes and he makes up some stupid story along the lines of he just threw them a little and one took off or something. I interceded and said you threw the cards dude. Dealer correct. The floor took a weak ass stance instead of warning the guy to not do it or get tossed. It's a joke.
Twice I had to call the floor because guys were slowing the game and trying to angleshoot everything. I am glad I only go once a year for the LAPC because that room is a joke.
Yep Commerce has so much angle shooting it is insane. I agree people do need to treat the dealers better. I'm surprised you stepped in, good on you. Some players would try to take you outside for doing that at Commerce.
Can I change your question to LA area and SF Bay Area (since there isn't any poker in the cities of LA or SF, but at least the former is closer to poker than the latter)?
The smallest game that doesn't have a ridiculous buy in structure is 2/3 at the bike or 3/5 at the commerce just so you know. I played 5/5 at the bike for a week last year. Action was plenty good.

The Bicycle Casino is going to start spreading a 40/80 half kill LHE game on April 6th. There will be a high hand promotion and they’re giving away a Mustang that weekend.

I'm thinking of giving a few shots and switching to cash if I bust out.
I assume now that you're talking about the dailies, which I don't have experience with. I've played quite a few of the bigger series (such as WSOP-C, which is going now) and they're generally well run.
Coming to LA in May for a wedding and considering coming out a couple days early to play poker. My local casino only offers 2-100 spread so would like to play some actual NL. Seems like my best bet is the 2-3 $300 max game at the bicycle?

Hey, headed there shortly. Check out the latest posts in response to my questions.
Tl;dr - The bicycle is where you want to play, any level. Also check out pokeratlas.
If your willing to drive, the Indian casinos are better structures for low limit. 1/3 100 B.B. games or 2/5 100 B.B. games with slightly cheaper rake. Usually an 1hr without traffic one way. Such as San manuel

Moving to OC next week and would like to start playing at the Bike, Commerce, or the Gardens, as those will be the 3 closest casinos to my house. I've read a lot ITT about the flat drop making anything under 5/5 unplayable for a solid win rate. For those of you who grind 5/5, how much higher skill level is required to win compared to your average 1/2, 1/3 game?
instead of believing those who say they cant win in games smaller than 5'5 why not realize they just might not be as good as they think they are, and talk with those who make a solid $10-20+ per hour in the $1-2 $1-3 $2-3 etc?

Do they exist? People here make it sound like you can't beat those stakes for 10+BB/hour.
I'd rather move up to 3/5 or 5/5, if only to improve my game and play against better players. I just don't want the skill gap to be so significant that I'm going to be losing 2-3 buy-ins every other session.
I'll chime in, I was out there in LA for a few month and play at Bike, Commerce, H Garden.
The reason everyone here recommend playing 5/5+ is that the rake at lower stake is terrible and the players pool are actually not that great for you.
Where as at 5/5 you get access to a greater players pool who happen to have a bigger median income. It's very normal for a businessman to stop by for quick session instead of waiting 2hrs in traffic and they mostly want to play 5/5 or 5/10, those are also some of the most juicy game to be in. I hope that help.

If you are staying in OC the Garden probably the closet casino. Of the 3 casino the Bike and Gardens have a nicer environment a better food but Commerce offer better game, more table selection, and better action.
