Did they increase the number of poker tables or is it the same?

It's almost all one big room, with the exception of the high limit areas (poker and California games).. The low limit poker games are right across from the low limit California games.. Also, there is a club/lounge with not much of a barrier, so you can hear the music bumping if you are in the "Tournament section".

Also, it seems like the number of 8/16 LHE games dropped since the move. In the old room, there would be 4-5 games going on a weekend night, and the last 2 Saturday's I've gone, there were only two games.

After a few trips to new Hollywood Park, its a much nicer facility than before but the management/dealers are still poor compared to the other big LA casinos. Did still see 3-4 8-16 LHE games on Fri/Sat evenings though.

I concur. I checked it out for the first time since the reopening a couple of days ago. Visually it is more appealing than before and they have comfy chairs with adjustable heights (this is a big deal if you are going to be there for several hours).

But before one hand was dealt there was a cluster****. When I arrived there was one 8/16 LHE game going and they started a new game. The seven of us present drew for the button and the dealer got ready to deal the first hand.

Just then, another player showed up who would have been under the gun. He asked to come in behind the button (where he could come in for free if this weren't a new game). The dealer said it's a new game. He said he should be allowed to draw a card. Of course, the draw was long over. He protested to a floorman who said either he comes in or he gets a missed blind button.

Just then another floorman comes to get chips for this same guy (short on chip runners I guess). The guy pleads his case to him. The second floorman says to let him draw a card, then goes away to get chips. The woman who drew the high card for the button now basically says **** that.

Meanwhile, the ninth player shows up and decides he wants to draw a card too. The second floorman comes back and asks why the cards aren't in there air. It's chaos. The second floorman says to let both guys draw cards. One of them beats the previous high card. Now the guy who has to take the big blind starts complaining that everyone should have redrawn.

This all takes at least five minutes to get sorted. A couple hands into the game, someone notices that the first late guy who started this mess seems to be short on chips. It turns out that the second floorman let this guy into the game with less than the table minimum and he is the one who brought his chips so he should have known.

I was really annoyed by:
1) the inconsistent floor rulings; at one point they were *both* present at the table giving the dealer inconsistent instructions
2) the second floorman being so inattentive that he let a new player buy in short.

It also bothers me more that I know the first late player as an angle shooter from Hustler and he got away with it. I don't put it past him to intentionally stall coming to the new game and not say anything if he's the cutoff. That's why letting him draw was wrong. Someone has to be UTG or in the blinds first in a new game, and you don't get to sit out if it is you or else the game would never start.

Wow, I LOLd reading that.. I swear the same thing happend at an 8/16 game at the bike a few months ago..
Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same guy..

I did get confused this past weekend though.. they're using green chips for their 40 NL game.. so it might look like there are 15 games of 8/16, but there was really only 3-4.

Just played at HP...nice new room but the dealers seem to be a bit chatty and unaware. I had to ask or remind the dealer for change almost everytime I folded in the small blind.

ive always hated when dealers dont give change right away and wait to see if you are going to call the blind. so mostly i keep enough change there so i put in the correct amount.

funny how everyone has a different opinion on things. i am the exact opposite. i've always hated it when dealers give change when i am on the sb before dealing the hand. if i end up folding, you didn't save any time. if i end up calling, then you wasted time making change.

Hey guys what would be a good neighborhood to rent for in DTLA for $1200-1500, and how long would it take to commute from LACC to Commerce, Bike, Hawaii Garden, Hollywood Park. Is it possible to do that commute on a daily basis? What kind of apartment can I get for that price?

Quick TR on the renovated "The Gardens" Casino. I don't know how long ago they stopped calling themselves Hawaiian Gardens.

Anyway, this place is now a real cardroom. The circus tent has been replaced by a real building. I heard in a recent interview that there are now more poker tables than at Commerce but I don't know the truth of that claim. I do know that at 10pm on a Thursday night there were five $8- $16 LHE tables going, which is about what you'd expect at Commerce.

This place is now one of the classier joints in the LA-area. Unfortunately, it's kinda out of my way. I have to drive 10-15 minutes past Commerce to get there, and I prefer Hustler, so I won't be a regular.

Yeah, I heard Barry mention that too.
If they get some good 20/40+ lhe or PLO going may have to go there instead of commerce.

Just wanted to check that first before saying it might be difficult to find an apartment by yourself for the range you said. L

That price range won't get you much downtown, but you can probably find a studio in other areas nearby like echo park or Hollywood. I'd suggest renting an airbnb for a few weeks, do a lot of driving around different neighborhoods and figure out where you want to live.

There are a lot of apartment scams on Craigslist, so definitely don't send money or sign any lease without seeing the place in person.

It's going to tough to look around at various neighborhoods without your own car. Can't imagine shipping a car would be much cheaper than just driving it either.

Are you perhaps visualizing downtown LA as a bigger place than it is? There are plenty of apartments/condos downtown (and a whole lot of sketch) but LA living is much more about the non-downtown part of it. And $1200-1500 won't get you much anywhere (and certainly not in the livable parts of downtown).

I am planing to come to town for like 6-10 days in January to play cash games, imagine I will mostly play at Commerce/ Bicycle and Hustler, maybe Gardens once.

I have never played in LA though, can you guys recommend any specific hotels or areas I should be looking at? I realize traffic can be terrible, thats why I don't want to end up in a part of town where all the "commutes" will take me forever.

Thank you!

thank you but they are super expensive for all the dates that I checked, like $200-250+ per night. I was hoping to pay like 100-130.
