ALso, why does this LA thread seem so dead?? There are so many poker tables in LA!! Let's start getting active on here LA area players!! I live in El Segundo and work in downtown LA and plan on playing cash for another source of income. Nice to meet everybody and hope to talk more about poker in LA.

My plan is to play cash mostly live and a lot of tourneys online at ACR as well as some tourneys live. I played 1/3 at the Wynn when I lived in Vegas for 3 months while I was doing an internship in Vegas and won consistently. In LA, there is nothing equivalent to 1/3 where the max buy-in is 500. I will have to move up to 5/5 to be bringing between 500-1K to the table.

How do the 5/5 cash games play compared to 1/3 in Vegas?? From what I have heard cash games in LA are a lot more loose. Is this correct??

How would people who have played both places enough compare the NL cash games in Vegas and LA???

ALso, why does this LA thread seem so dead?? .........after you talk to a few hundred LA poker players, you'll understand why the forum is rather quiet. They don't get out of the card room much, are sun-deprived, and do nothing but complain.

I play LV quite a bit as well, 6x year, and spouse is from LA, so I'm also there 8-12 weekends a year. I think that in LA you'll find much wider variance, not so much looseness. With the smaller buy-ins making the blinds irrelevant, its all about what a player is willing to put in for B-I's, what they have left of their current stack, table position, as well as history with other players.

You should do well at HollyPark, and probably Commerce. Tougher games for you at The Bike, and you will see action dry up for you at Hustler if you are any good. Donk a stack off every now and then if you want action. And don't forget games over ay Hawaiian Gardens.....

Hey LA, I'm heading out to LA from the east coast for a week or so in early January for poker. I'd prefer not to have to rent a car, but I know I may need to. Any good hotel recommendations in the Bike/Commerce area. I'm going by myself so obviously the hotel stay adds up for one person over a week. I'd like to save as much as I can, but not so much that I'm in a ****ty room or bad area.

Been looking online for the last week or so, so I have some idea, but was hoping for some input from the locals. Thanks a lot guys.

1/3 at the Wynn was deep stacked though. 500 max buyin, so it played like a bigger game. I always brought 500 to table. I want to play in a game where I'm bringing the same amount, so I will be playing 5/5 at HP. Have you ever played 5/5 there??

Comfort Inn across from the Bike. doesn't get any easier closer anywhere in the area, unless you can actually score a room at Bike or Commerce.

Because there are Commerce and Bike threads too, and at least the former gets a ton more traffic.

at those stakes the rake is very important to worry about. so play in soft games and play when you know you play much better than your opponents.

I am not from the area but that casino is on the bravo poker app. You can check it 24/7 and see exactly what is going on and how long the lists are.

The rake is lower, as of November it was $3+1 low-stakes limit, $4+1 for no-limit and mid-stakes limit.

Hello - I'm in LA for a week on work and I'd like to try and play a couple of poker tournaments. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good casino/game?

Thanks

J.

I assume you have a car to get around, not sure when you'll be in LA? currently LAPC at commerce WSOPC in March and I guess pretty much any casino have daily tournaments, if I'd play daily I'd probably check out Bike's quantum tournaments.

Good luck

I used to play there. It is very high variance. The no limit game that runs there most of the time is 2/5 $100-$300 buy in. You will see a lot of $100-$200 stacks so a lot of hands will be all in by the river. The action is great due to the structure just high variance.

If you have a car: 1300$ budget on two bedroom one bathroom apartment is not hard to find, probably some safe neighborhood too.

Can someone please recommend me a casino in the LA/Orange County area that has regular ****ing buy-in games? Bike, Commerce, & Hawaiin Gardens all do the short stack only ****ing bull****.

If anyone could help, that would be much appreciated. I know that there are some indian joints out in Temecula, are those any good?

Welcome to Southern California.

I'm think there is a game at Commerce with a $300-$500 buy-in and $5-$5 blinds, but others will know better because I don't play that game.

But if you want a $1-$2 NL game where you can buy a 100BB stack in LA County, I think they only exist in underground games.

The closest 1/2 or 1/3 buyin 100 BB are in Indian casinos. Pala or Pechanga
