I guess I'm down to try out Hollywood park, heard the games good there too but never been.
There is alot of degens at HG, I have seen people beg for money there. There is plenty of action and donks there. Even though I have never won it, the cash drawings seem to be a nice perk to playing at HG.

New to LA, and curious....

Which casinos offer the best comp deals? I notice that a lot of them have promotions for Limit (I dont play it) and I notice some wild discrpencies in cost (drinks free at the Bike, not at Commerce, etc). I guess I am asking...which casino is the best deal? Where do you play and why. I'm primarily a 2/5 NL player.

I would not base my decision on what casino has the best comp deals, in fact comps are normally limited to free food or $1 deposited to your players card every hour of play.

More importantly would be to play to at a casino that is convenient to play in, safe, and of course has action.

The biggest casino in CA is commerce and is always running 1/3 and 2/5 NL tables. I would also recommend HG. As far as the nicest casino and ambience I would recommend Hustler.

I was just browsing this thread. and found your posts borderline mind-boggling. HG is easily the closest to you with the loosest typical opponent play (much looser than Bike or Hustler and at least slightly looser play (generally speaking) than Commerce or HP), but unable to drive -- you're actually considering Hollywood Park which is -- by far -- the longest drive of any in the area and also -- by far -- the most dangerous to be entering, exiting or waiting outside of late at night.

Hi Im going to be in LA on April 13 maybe and april 14th all day def. my wifeandi are renting a car to visit UCIrvine and are leaving LAX sun. Morning.

Where is a good place to stay? I dont mind staying at one the casinos, whcich on has a good poker rate? And mix of goodaction. Are these still ' in the city' and you can go out on the town nearby? What do you guys reccomend.

Also is the wife issue. To get the poker rate ill have to play forsometime which means the wife needs to find something to do, and she doesnt gamble. I coud stick her in a LL MTT but she woud be put really qucik. I want to spend time wit her just afetrr i get engh hours for the poker rate.

If we dont stay at a casino where should we stay in LA? Were looking maybe $100 a night tops

Any thpughts are appreciated

What kind of game do you plan on playin and at what stakes?

Commerce is a must for poker players and there is a poker rate but its basicaly the same price if you book in advance online. The rest of the major poker casinos do not have hotels (garden, bike, hustler, hollywood park).

Pechanga and Morongo do have hotels but are about2 hours drives worth, they have vegas style black jack and slot machines.

The closest casino to Irvine would be the Gardens.

Finding anything for $100/night close to a casino in L.A. may be a bit of a challenge.

Commerce sounds like the logical choice. Just down the street is the Citadel Outlet mall for your wife. Also, if you decide to stay closer to Irvine, South Coast Plaza and Fashion Island should keep her busy. Just be aware - HG is about 25 miles or so from Irvine, Commerce closer to 40. If you are planning on driving to either of those from Irvine on a Friday evening, count on 45 minutes to HG and closer to an hour and fifteen to Commerce.

There are also options in San Diego County to the south, but the drive is still a bear on a Friday evening (hour to an hour and a half).

Here's my spreadsheet of poker close to Orange County: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...Vptd0pKMjZIMmc

Hotwire is your friend for decent hotels in LA near the casino.

I stayed at the doubltree commerce (about 1/2 mile from the casino on the same street) for less than $100. Was a nice hotel as well.

I've been in the LA area for about a month, and I find myself agreeing with post #10 quite a bit. I'm increasingly inclined to head south for 100BB BI games.

Anybody care to talk me out of it? Is there any reason to continue wasting my time at 2/3 in LA? Even if you play a kick-ass short stack game, there's no money on the table.

Just beware - even if you drive south, the 100BB buy in is a max. A lot of people still buyin for the minimum - as short as 20 BBs.

Have you considered The Bike's 2/3 or 3/5 game?

(posted this earlier to another person but sounds like it could be of use to you too.)

how far above "inexpensive" can you go? motel 6 rooms m-f are advertised at $49.99 per night generally but the large motel 6 by LAX is more than that. crystal park (the casino in compton) is inside of a hotel as is the commerce. personally, i would stay at a nice hotel close to LAX then take the quick drive down century blvd to hollywood park casino. (the casino is less than 4 miles from LAX.)

but if push comes to shove, the hacienda hotel is a mile from lax, right off the 105 fwy. i'd say it's a step above a motel 6 but below a radisson or sheraton. listed price is $74 per night.

http://www.expedia.com/Los-Angeles-H...-30461&rm1=a2&

the radisson is one block from LAX and much closer to hollywood park casino. also a much nicer hotel but it runs $125 per night.

http://www.expedia.com/Los-Angeles-H...lt&rfrr=-30461

there are many other "generic brand" motels on century blvd but i would stay away from those. on late night drives to hollywood park i have seen prostitutes walking towards and around those particular motels

Define"best". For me The Bike. Buy ins are deep enough at 2-3 and higher that you actually get to play a little poker instead of bingo.

My real preference though is to drive down to San Diego for 100BB 1/2 against a softer player pool.

The "best" would depend on the reader so I was hoping for each individuals opinion and factors.

I have never played the 2/3 NL(100-300 buy in) at Bike. I hear many people just order food and sit out. Is this the case?

What casino in SD? I hear good things about Oceans 11 in regards to buy ins but there is suppose to be many solid players.

The casino I mostly play in is the Garden because they tend to have many prmotions running. There is also many fish available but the buy in struture sucks.

Most? No. Some? Yes. Have you ever seen a bad player take an OUT button while eating at the table?

Personally I prefer Pala. 1/2 NL with 100BB buy in and a great staff. As far as Oceans - the player pool is a lot smaller so the really bad players are fewer and farther between. It really doesn't matter where you play, at the low stakes play is pretty much the same.

I don't like any of the L.A. rooms except the Bike because of the sucky buy ins. I find it really tough to play because you're basically out of chips by the turn. As far as promos - I like them because, depending on the promo, they cause the bad players to alter their games to try to win. At Pala, I have been the benefactor of someone losing chip stacks because they had to win their $20 rakeback promo!

I have played the $100-300 NLH with 2/3 blinds a couple of times now and these are my impressions so far:

1. Free food, dessert, soda= +ev
2. Only 2/3 NLH with 100BB in LA(that i know of)
3. VIP seating/area is a plus
4. Floormen seem lazy and incompetent
5. Jackpots higher than hustler, commerce, garden(not including superjackpot)
6. Location perfect if you valet(i dont thus far)
7. Players seem to sit out quite often
8. Tilting when the entrance to the 710 is closed.

Overall, I look forward to playing at the Bike more often.

Hey guys,

First post on here...I will be in Los Angeles all summer and went to check out the commerce yesterday, but was not impressed by the short stacked buyins besides the 5/10 game, which featured all regs. Given, I went at a bad time, but I feel 5/10 is above my bankroll.

Anyway, I was wondering if I could get any advice on where to play a good 2/5, 3/5 or 5/5 game that is anywhere from like 80-200BB and obviously a juicy game in the Los Angeles area.

Thanks for all the help!

when i saw this thread I thought you were looking for 500-1K limit hold em action lol.

I was like, you better try to find Joe Cassidy and play heads up.

Commerce has the most active busiest poker room out there. Check it out.

Hustler and Bike are your options. And goddamn am I tired of the word "juicy." I wish someone would come up with a better common adjective, but I'm too lazy.

Anyway, Hustler and Bike, end thread. Now someone has to come along and tell him to truck it all the way to Hawaiian Gardens.

I believe the Bike has the best buy in structure with 5/5 at 300-1000, 5/10 is 500 uncapped, and the 2/3 is 100-300.

Anybody correct me if I am wrong.

FWIW the above tables are conveniently located next to valet entrance.
