Are you talking about the Crystal Casino & Hotel f/k/a Crystal Park? I haven't played there for years, so any information I have is stale.

If the rooms are really cheap, stay there, then hop on Hwy. 91 W to I-110 N and go to The Hustler (10 mins.), or I-710 N and go to The Bicycle Club (15 mins.) or Commerce (25 mins.). You can see Hwy. 91 from Crystal Park and are less than 1.5 miles away from I-710.

I think The Hustler is (ironically) the classiest of the choices in terms of ambiance, but there may be little game selection depending on what you play.

I'll be in riverside for a weak on business and am looking for decent 1/2 or 1/3 NL. Never been out to CA before.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Pechanga, Pala. Also, Lake Elsinore casino is a card club and CA table game place right on i-15. Not sure if Soboba Casino spreads poker anymore, located near Hemet.
Best game selection, Pechanga
North of riverside- San Manuel, large room, big limit play here
towards the desert- Morongo, allows play for 18+ y.o.
I'll be down for the week as well, but am staying in the other direction, in the desert.

new player to no limit holdem will find 1,2 blinds about the smallest game played. plan on 100 dollar buyin minimum to play well.

Wrong. There are no card rooms in L.A. that use quarters for blinds. I doubt there are any licensed brick and mortar card rooms in the country that do.

The blinds for the $40NL are indeed as ridiculous as posted.

damn thats crazy. starting out with 20 big blinds? thats rough. im sure people are shoving all the time with the intent on just reloading if they lose.

If you read elsewhere in this thread or the Commerce thread you will find people arguing that capping buy-ins at 20 big blinds is a good thing. Feel free to wade in and try to convince them otherwise, but it's well-worn ground in these threads.

It's a bad thing for good players (in the short term at least). It's a good thing for bad players, and for the casinos, who rely on the money coming in from bad players.

its bad for everyone. the good players cant win, the bad players cant win, as no players will win as the house rake/time takes its toll on every player.
so it looks like the house wins as it gets all the money. right. no. as time goes by there are no winners to start games and then the casino goes downhill.
short term and medium term it may look good to some. but let time play it out and all lose.

The house wins on every table, and I don't think the house cares if anyone can beat the rake. Good players are not playing these games, and bad players are gonna lose anyway. And perhaps this kind of game allows them to lose their money less quickly.

Obviously the rake is terrible for everyone, possibly even the house in the long run.

Short stacks are definitely better for bad players though, good players benefit from deep stacks, that is pretty basic poker theory. The reason NL games died out the first time was because of unlimited buyins crushing the bad players. The shorter the buyins, the more chance bad players have to win in the short run.

the house may not care if anyone can beat the rake. but a smart house wouldd as without the small winners you dont have the game starters waiting in the morning every day to help you get the most tables going.

another and perhaps the main reason no limit died in the 1980,s was that there were lots of limit games to plauy in. and in limit your stack goes up and down all night and thats more fun and even the bad players frequently get ahead before they go broke.

then they can rationalize that if they had quit earlier they would have won.

I just moved to LA, and I was wondering where the best 5-5nl game is?

I've been playing at Commerce and Bike and both of these spots are pretty nitty/reggy, and boring to play at. Any other casinos in LA with like multiple 5-5nl games (up to 1k buyin) that regularly run and have good, consistent action?

if you are going to be a player and not just a sitter in a particular limit you have to bounce around. you find good games and play in all sorts of limits and variety of games.

most games in public rooms arent very good or are unbeatable. you have to root out the right games for you.

By far one of the most annoying questions asked on 2+2 and it feels like it comes up multiple times per day.

Do you really think anyone is just going to hand you the keys to their goldmines? Do the work yourself and try out different games and find what works for you. There are more games running in LA then pretty much anywhere else in the country. I'm sure you can find a 5$ blind game that isn't nitty with minimal effort

You should try The Hustler and The Gardens.

Going to be in LA for works for a couple of weeks and wondering what's the scene on middle limit mix games if any?

It appears from Pokeratlas that what shows up more is LH and stud in those limits at Commerce and Bicycle. I didn't see any mix games.

Does more of these games start at Commerce due to the LA Poker open?

Thanks

Bicycle has a regular 20/40 OE game. I think Hollywood Park has the same thing. A few years ago I saw a 100/200 multigame mix at Commerce, no idea how often it goes and I don't pay attention because that's way too big for me.

They tried to get 8-16 HORSE going at Commerce a few years ago but it didn't stick. I played in it once, but.there wasn't enough interest to sustain it. Too bad, because I'm not rolled for the limits where mixed games run regularly.
