I didn`t comment on it since the players were so bad I wanted to get dealt as many hands as possible, but still... I`ve played a bit around Europe and in Las Vegas and this is the first time I`ve noticed it.

Also noticed: I sat there for maybe 2 hours the same dealer never left the table. I asked him if he ever gets a break he said no. I used to live in Estonia for 2 years, the dealers there worked like 30 mins on 30 mins off when they were on a shift.. don`t know what`s normal for dealers, but that he didn`t get a single break for like 2 hrs+ surprised me.

While a hand was in progress the dealer also told a bad beat story, all in preflop KcTc vs AcAh, he flopped a flush and a str8 flush draw but lost on the river!

I also witnessed one of the worst acting jobs I`ve seen at a poker table, big chinese guy sits down and raises the first hand he is dealt. Turns the nutflush and makes a great speak before both check-raising the turn and betting the river. Doubt that was the reason he got paid off though.. ppl in that game called with everything.

A break even online player could crush that £1-2 game if he bothered.

I sort of consider moving to London next year to follow Spurs and grind it out, but after this weekend I don`t know if I still want to do that after all? Why? SO ****ING CROWDED EVERYWHERE it`s a joke.. people all over, I was walking like 1 mph on Oxford Street on monday at 2pm, had to give up.. also all the pubs in Leicester Square and Soho were ABSOLUTELY packed.. underground packed at all times.. too much people for a friendly norwegian fellow :
)

you were in the very, very centre of a massive city though...whadya expect ?

are there are 1/1 games at the empire?

No, but you can table-select the £1/2 games such that the stacks are all < £100 and it plays like £1/1 or such that the stacks are all > £500 and it plays like £2/5

None. It's all NLHE, PLO or a rare Dealers Choice.

Planning to possibly go with a group of mates along to a casino. Problem is there's no way any of them would be up for sitting down at a 200NL table (we generally play 5p/10p at home games) - we're all students so not exactly able to do it as a one-off either.

Do any casinos rent out private tables at custom stakes or is it (presumably) just not worth their while?

Generally just not up for it. There will be 1/1 games that you can buy in for £25

Depends w/bouts u are staying.

3 Central Locations

1) The International - £1/£1 up to £2/£5 NLHE or PLO plus tournaments ranging from £10 to £100 buyin depending on night of week. Friendly and well run

2) Empire - £1/£2 up to £5/10 ( i think) not that big, self dealt tournaments, lots of passing traffic/drunks. Can involve long waits for seating. Average dealers not that hospitable.

3) Grovesnor Victoria (The Vic) £1/£1 up to £25/£50 mega tables lots of choices for stake and tables. Professional but for me lacks the 'friedn;y' atmosphere of the international.

I would suggest 1) or 3), in fact check out both. If you are outside the central area then more specific advise can be provided.

That's usually true but the downside is that it's the worst card room out of the three - cramped, badly managed game lists, inexperienced dealers etc.

Well from recent trips The Vic is guaranteed to have a 1/2 and sometimes a 1/1 running continuously from Friday until at least Monday morning. During the week if no table is running they usually start early in the afternoon. During peak times (all evenings from ~7pm) they typically have at least three or four tables of each.

The International I go to mainly for the tournaments and there is always one or two tables at those stakes running when I arrive and they are still running when I leave. I have no idea if they run 24x7.

The Empire always seems to have one or two tables running 24x7

i never played live poker, so i wonder about the 1/1 and 1/3 nl games. is it the small blind is 1 and big blind 1 (3), too? so when noone raise, there is a check and check by the blinds? or do i just misunderstand the rules?

thx

International Cash Games start up at about 4:30/5PM when people bust out of the afternoon tourney/arrive after finishing work. This is during the week, haven't been on a saturday or sunday but I'm guessing that the games going on in the morning/early afternoon will be that of the previous night.

Anyone know anything about the 2.30pm freeze at the Empire?

Self Delt except for final table. £5 bounty. 50ish runners. I really didn't enjoy the self deal, very self concious. plus my AK ran into AA on an KKA flop.

Play the 2pm freezeout at the Internatinal instead. All dealer delt (the dealers are fantastic, very compitent and friendly) They have a 'feature' table wich is streamed on their site (multi camera, no hole cards) It's a fun little gimmick so your friends at home/work can rail you.

what are these like?

i saw on the sight they only have 15 minute blind levels...complete crap shoot? well run? i suspect they're fun but blinds probably raise too quickly for any post-flop play?

Thank you for the advice, so both of these run everyday? Guess I'll have a shot at both in Jan.

Travel Lodge in Covent Garden or Shaftsbury Avenue. You'll be 5 minutes walk from the Empire which I hear is where to be on Weekend Evenings, you are also about 10 minutes tube/bus from the International.
