Possibly looking at London to play full time? Can anyone give a quick review of the games there? Good games?

AFAIK there's nowhere nearby to park given how central there is. Anywhere you can park will charge you an absolute fortune so you're better off getting the tube

Yep, they are located in a pedestrian zone

https://www.q-park.co.uk/en-gb/cities/london/chinatown/ is a short walk to either. Just the £8/hour or £50/day...

you can park on single yellow lines after 6.30pm and before 8.30am, plus all day Sundays. (double check those exact times)

remember tho, you'll need to pay the congestion charge and also the ULEZ charge depending on your car. (recommend you set up the auto pay incase you forget as the fines are £80+)

finding a space is the hardest part, i highly recommend you check out the parking bays on Waterloo Place, or on Pall Mall, those paid parking bays are free after 6.30pm also and are about a 5min walk.

The occasional tournament and a couple of drinks at the Vic is as much as I'm willing to do these days. I'll book my next holiday to Vegas soon, possibly 2 and 1/2 weeks in November.

Hello everybody!

I’m going to visit London in the near future, I want to play a few days.

I already googled everything I could about the live poker atmosphere in the city but I couldn’t find any information about the rewards or comps you get when you are playing poker, especially in 1/2 and 2/5.

Thanks in advance for the help!

1st off 2/5 doesnt run often. Usually only the Vic and it is £500-£2500 buy in.

You will see mostly £1/£2...aspers has 1/1.

Mostly all PLO is dealer choice (button) 4/5/6. You choose 4 card, 5 card or 6 card, PLO High. Most play 6 card. There is some 4 card at 1/2 plo at VIC, otherwise almost all are 4,5,6

You can get rewards cards for a few pence off a pint, but must tell them you have a card when ordering a pint.. You need to sign up on your own, with passport.

Use this for what cash games are running. Also you can follow them.in twitter.

There is 2 small places not listed Cromwell Mint & Grosvernor Golden Horseshoe (they usually.use FB to advertise their games, only 4 tables, its in Bayswater.by Queensway Tube Stop).

I didnt see any...i would pick up a portable phone charging bank. Need to check bags in cloak rooms too. No hats, except in poker areas...

The Vic, no jogging pants, so dress accordingly.

How many low limit NLHE tables would be running in the Hippo and Empire on a saturday night? Are there long waiting times?

I'm only in London for a few nights....what is the biggest and (or?) best room in terms of number of tables and waiting times?

Thanks

Biggest no. of tables: The Vic. Empire and Hippo around a handful each. Waiting times are not a big issue IME. Since Empire and Hippo are very close to each other just go to the other one if you are stuck on a list

While I can relate to this a little bit (playing live much less frequently, games getting a little tougher etc), I have to say that when I go out to play of a Friday evening in London I'm always reassured that there are PLENTY of poor and very loose players out there as well as those who are completely transparent or have no idea about odds and bet-sizing. There really are a lot of holidaymakers in the west-end at the moment just out for a bit of fun and giving poker a go for a laugh. (This is why The Empire and The Hippo will always be better venues than The Vic or the abysmal Aspers.)

Additionally, there are still a ton of players who talk the talk and go on and on about how knowledgeable they are yet have zero discipline and self-destruct issues. Of course, there's no protection against them hitting their gutshots and straights while facing terrible odds (I'm having the worst year of poker results ever) but... if you, yourself, know the odds, are perceptive when it comes to table dynamics and table-select wisely (avoid those miserable regular ****ers) then I reckon one should always feel quite comfortable at the table.

Anyway that sounds a bit like a lecture but it's kinda how I feel.

Thanks! Fair to say that if I have one night in London for poker and want to play PLO the Vic is the place to go? I assume so as it’s the only casino in London I’ve heard of 😀

The Vic is your best bet...it's over in Bayswater off Edgeware Road. Don't wear jogging/track pants (no longer allowed)

Hippodrome/Empire are right near each other over in tourist Leicester Square (which is down the street from Piccadilly Circus).

Aspers Stratford City-is further away, but it is inside shoppping center.

Definitely use the link i posted to keep an eye on what's running and how you want to manage your time.

Good luck on the felt

I might be spending a month in London for work this fall (I'm American). Does anything bigger than 2/5 run regularly?

Thanks in advance!

It would be mostly at the Vic.

2/5 is 2500£ max, all buyin max so like 3500 USD RANGE....make sure you have lots of pounds...biggest note is 50!...

You can leave your money in deposit at least so you dint have to carry it around

THe Vic has the regular games.

I think Palm Beach in Mayfair has even bigger like 10/25 and above but its aimed at rich businessmen

Thanks for the info, very useful! The Vic sounds promising, if the buyin structure at palm beach is similar I might not be a rich enough businessman for that one London
