Yeah Thomas Exchange is going to be better than pretty much all banks.

^Incorrect

If you have an account with Bank of America in the USA for example, they partner with Barclays in the UK, so after calling BoA and having them put a travel note on your account, you can just walk up to a Barclays ATM and use your debit card to withdraw pounds at the actual bank-to-bank rate with no fees.

If you were looking to play 5/10, this probably wouldn't work because of the ATM limits. But for 1/2 or 2/5, just spread out the withdrawals over maybe 2 days and you'll be saving money for sure, even vs using a currency broker that offers legit rates like Thomas Exchange

FWIW, BOFA's rate is 1.48 which is about 3% higher than other retail exchanges. You're getting a retail rate no matter what you think even from a bank.

Just came back from the UK, so this is still pretty fresh.

One benefit of maybe taking the bank atm as a backup is if you play higher stakes. But the challenge is that the new bank may not honor a large withdrawl amount from their ATM's even if you call BOFA to increase your limit.

In the scenario I described, you are paying Barclays "rate" and I do contend that this "rate" you receive when withdrawing from an ATM is very different than if you were inside the branch trying to hand them dollars to receive pounds

If anyone is planning on coming to LA or Vegas in the next few weeks and wants USD cash for GBP bank transfer at interbank rate, send me a pm, I might be able to help you out.

^See the post above for an idea that is a good alternative to using Thomas Exchange to turn your GBP back into USD at the end of your trip. Unfortunately even though using ATMs to withdraw GBP directly from your USD account can save you money at the start, there is no way I have yet found to get the fair rate again from these banks when you are trying to put foreign money back into your account.

Now seeing these players I am literally salivating at the thought of playing them at £1/2 with 100-200bb stacks. That's a sample from ONE local home game. Kinda makes me think that there are at least hundreds of people like that in and around London, who could be called bad regs.

On the other hand I certainly have to agree about people practising bad BRM, etc.

Appreciate Joe's opinions and would love to see some other players familiar with London poker scene voice their opinion on this matter.
Where is said home game? Can you get me in?

There is a ridiculously high amount of bad regs out there. Many play with a short-stack because they don't have the know-how or the balls to play with a deeper stack. Many use the same blindingly obvious strategies used back in 2004. Most are losers while others might be lucky enough to break-even in the long run. As they've been beaten up and bruised so many times, generally speaking, the lower their buy-in the worse they are. Not to be confused with the newer short-stacked thinking players.

Hi guys in LON tonight. Hotel is near Hyde park. The Vic has a satty tonight to a tourney tomorrow which I won’t be able to play in anyways because I fly out tomorrow evening. Struggling to find daily tournaments at any poker rooms. Limited internet = not being able to look up resources in this thread without 30 minute website loading lol.

At this point I am leaning to 1/1 cash at the Vic but really would love a 20gbp to 200gbp BI tournament if anyone can help me find one it would be awesome. Also, any reply (earlier post if tied or split percentage) that gets me info on a tourney that i defo will just go and reg gets 10% of my action for free free free.

I have a thread on pg&c and you can look up DetroitCheese on SS (the only sn that is unlocked) due to some personal reasons etc etc.

I am reaching London in about an hour and will be right by hide park once I check in and ready to gambooool

Just back home from a PLO "session" at the Aspers. What a ****hole. Every time I go to the Aspers I remember why I should not bother.

Btw I played a grand total of 2 hands, went for the PLO ... it turns out it's played mostly with 6 cards ... hmmm, no thanks. What a hassle.

The Aspers and, to an extent, the whole Westfield Stratford, to be avoided at all cost.

Played at Aspers last night also, NL though. Games have taken a nosedive over the last month or so imo. I'm pot committed for the freeroll though

Reg (I assume from comment) is sat at the table reading a book and ignoring everyone whilst playing like an obvious nit. He has a pen in his hand and is clicking the table felt with it every minute or so. Dealer points out he is marking the table with pen (there were a few marks). Reg says "I bring £25k a year rake in to this place. Lets get the manager over and see who they side with. I wonder which of us will be gone first." Unfortunately, the dealer backed down.

This kind of ridiculous self-entitled 'logic' gave me nostalgic reminders of 2010 online poker...

It's very sad. In a way the Aspers should be comparable to the Orleans in Vegas. Low key casino mainly for locals. Oh boy, I'd take the Orleans over the Aspers big time.
On a separate note, anyone knows why they do not offer videopoker slots?

It seems like the Vic runs more PLO than the Hippodrome Pokerstars room, is that correct?

PLO is currently by far my fav game, been checking the twitter feeds often. I'd say so.

Hippodrome runs basically no PLO, it's like 1 game of 4/5/6 card @1/2 at most and that's not every night
Vic has more regular PLO games running but I've heard that the games have been abysmal recently (may be fine at 1/2?)
