Re: London

Hey gents, what are the buy-in levels in London?

£1/£2 ?---?

£1/£2 Deepstack ?---?

£2/£5 500-2500??? I was told most local regs buy in max, that's fine. Just confirm ranges.

Do you have to pay to join besides just signjng up for a players card, inorder to play at:

The Vic?

Aspers Strafford?

Hippodrome?

Empire?

The Vic's buyin levels are here, I'd guess the other places are similar.

Second this. For several thousand you can definitely negotiate. Well worth spending half an hour phoning around and saying you can get a better rate elsewhere. I even managed to play 2 different branches of Thomas Exchange off against one another the other day

Re: London

Ok, so as a couple of you know I have been pissing about trying to organise a little 3/6 FL Horse+TD for a while just for banter. I spoke to KJ at the Hippo yesterday and we sorted out some details for a game. She was keen as it would help the dealers learn. All details are below:

Tues 5th Dec, starting mid/late afternoon.

£3/6 limit HORSE + triple draw (All games fixed limit).

50p ante on stud games.

£1 bring in for stud games, £3 complete.

Big bet from 5th street in stud, turn in flop games, 2nd draw.

If 6+ players, during TD UTG(+1,+2 etc) will sit out.

8 hands per game, counted with non-denom chips by dealer.

Hippo are happy to provide the American style small laminated plaques showing which game is in progress.

Any player free to join if seats available (not private).

Dealer to stack pots in hi/lo to facilitate quick splits/quartering

Splits will be raked like in the States

Rake is 5% capped at the number of stacks at the table, the same structure they use for £2/5NL, although with an average pot size of 12-15 bets or so it is very reasonable, and to be honest, she is making a concession for me as she would like to see some more variety in the room.

They will make sure their poker cashier has enough singles stocked to facilitate limit betting- probably around one rack per punter in the game, possibly more

Players will have to look after the dealers (a purely verbal agreement)....no doubt better than they do when we are grinding NL/PLO. I can only assume that they are losing a little money by juggling rotas around to ensure more experienced dealers are on hand, and also two of the floors have been staying on, and obviously getting paid, to give dealers a little HORSE training. Considering the rake will be lower than on a NL game, we would have to be relatively more generous than most of us are when actually grinding.

They have agreed to tweet that they are spreading the game in the preceding days.

Already have myself and 3 others confirmed, with interest from several of the regular posters here. Would be great if this would become a regular thing once a month or so. Two tables running would be a triumph.

PM me for any questions/interest/my whatsapp. I have been an old friend of AC the floor at the Hippo for years, so he probably knows more about the details than anyone else, so feel free to ask him if you see him working.

This is freakin' awesome, pretty much my dream for London poker! I'd be so in but for the fact I've got a work do that evening!! If it goes well I'm hoping that there will be a few more of these and I'll 100% come down. May even try to sneak out for an hour in the late afternoon. Great job bananapeel!

Re: London

Sorry let me clarify that rake is 5% capped at £1 per stack at the table (5 punters have chips on the felt, cap is £5) I will also advise that the 7th and 8th player to join the table will be put on a kind of reverse must-move so that if there are 3 names on the list for a second table, the last two in will move to start a second game. This should encourage more people to join.........and keep the rake lower ;-)

Interested. I mean REALLY, REALLY interested. I started a thread a while back asking if there was any limit poker in the UK and got no response, so you can imagine how happy I am.

Re: London

Move game details are as follows, some rulings for Stud and TD are covered below:

(Oh and rake is now official as 5% capped at £1 per stack at the table)

Thanks to all Hippo Staff who see this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dealers will use game plaques to show which game is in progress.

The 7th and 8th player to join the table will be put on a "reverse" must move. If 3 names are on the wait list, the last two players in will now move to join the second table, to make it 5 handed. This should encourage more people to play, as well as avoiding UTG and UTG1 sitting out in triple draw.

Any player free to join if seats available (not private).

Dealer to stack pots in hi/lo to facilitate quick splits/quartering

Splits will be raked

Rake is 5% capped at £1 per number of stacks at the table.

We will need a birdcage of 9 racks of blue and a rack of yellow per table.

8 hands per game, counted with non-denom markers by the dealer. Markers will ALWAYS be counted left to right, and NEVER right to left, so players are aware of the number of hands remaining.

No dead button in cash game, to be congruent with UK games.

Each street capped at 5 bets, unlike most online limit, which is capped at 4.

Order of games is HORSE and TD after Stud8.

Stud:

After LO8 round, button will move FIRST, player will then set it back away against the rail, and the 3 stud rounds will commence. First hand of TD, button is already in the correct seat for dealing to commence.

NO COMMUNITY CARDS will be used if there is a shortage of cards in Stud. The last card of the stub, as well as ALL burns will be reshuffled. Please disregard Robert's Rules regarding counting the stub and dealing 7th without a burn if there are enough players to receive a fresh card, or the usage of community cards- for simplicity. Community cards NOT being used removes any confusion about who is to act first on 7th if the communal card changes who is now showing high (or low in the case of Razz). Most rooms that implement a community card rule then force whoever is showing high (or low) on 6th to act first again on 7th regardless of whether the shared card changes who is now high/low. This is both confusing and disruptive to integrity, in my humble opinion. NO COMMUNITY CARDS!

If ANY of the 7th street cards are dealt accidentally UP, whether by the dealer turning the card, or it being dealt face down and then flipping up by mistake, the player will be given a choice- either the hand can continue as normal, or the player can choose to be all in for EXISTING bets. NO RIVERS ARE TO BE REPLACED!!

House holdem/omaha rules can be applied regarding use of burns/misdeals to exposed cards on 3rd Street.

Triple Draw:

Keep current round discards and muck separate until betting is complete, in case the stub runs out of cards and the muck is needed. Reshuffle the last card in the stub, along with the muck, but ensure that the CURRENT ROUND OF DISCARDS ARE NOT USED. Unlike Stud, do not reshuffle burn cards, as they act as a reference for how many draws have taken place.

Re: London

Why not throw in PLO and NLHE and make it 8-game?

Could make it a 40BB CAP if you're worried about those games dominating?

I would seriously consider dusting off my chips if this ran!

Sure, but you'd be more likely to get casual players interested if there were 2 rounds with games familiar to them.

Also 8-game is common online, HORSE+TD I've never seen.

I've tried many times to get 8-game running at Hippo but never had any luck!

Re: London

Firstly no casual players would EVER play, regardless of PLO and NL being included. You've even tried yourself to no avail. When you say 8 game is common, there are about 4-5 games running above 1/2-400/800 even at peak times. HORSE+TD is usually a go-to mix when there is a low stake 6-12, 8-16, 9-18 list in Vegas but some of the players don't want the badugi hybrids in there (it's usually me if I'm honest) But the main two reasons I would give is that having two big bet games in there would disrupt the fast pace flow of a limit game, and, by far and away the biggest reason, having stacks and stacks of singles while trying to play big bet poker just isn't good for the game. I play a bit of LHE when in the States, and more often than not after winning a big pot I'm still stacking chips half an orbit later.

Hi guys, I found the monthly “Loyalty Rake Race” in Vic quite interesting. Anyone know roughly how many hours are needed to qualify for the monthly free roll, and usually how many players in total will compete (incl cash buy in players)? Thanks!

Do you have any idea how much it will be per month after taxes ?

I calculated ~3,5 k£ w. this info: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/it.htm
but some told me it would be closer to 3.1 k£
Did you take that job in Hammersmith? A £55,000 starting salary is great, congratulations! I'm about to relocate back to the U.K from Italy but the idea of the tax rate there definitely makes me a little apprehensive.

£55,000 per annum after tax equates to £3,306 after tax http://www.income-tax.co.uk/calculator/55000

If you ask me that is not bad at all, currently in Italy I am paying very few taxes mainly due to the fact that I am self-employed. I don't know what the situation is in Paris for self-employment, but in the U.K you only have a £11,500 personal allowance before tax, am I right?

Also, I'm looking for potential players to meet up with if I do decide to relocate back to the U.K did you guys arrange anything in the end? Would be great to be involved!

hey bananapeel, out of interest, how come you didn't try to get your game going at the Vic? the dealers are very experienced there having dealt the 75/150 Mix game plus you have the car park which is a great feature missing from the West End casinos. Nonetheless best of luck with your game and I hope it becomes a runner, please keep us updated here
