Go to one of UCL's student club nights if you don't mind hanging out with students.

You will usually only be allowed in with a student card. If you want drunken indie disco then there is the borderline ( tottenham court rd), feeling gloomy (islington academy). The clubs/bars on brick lane are good but they close at 1 I think (maybe 2 but quite ear,ly0

Cable, Plastic People, a new place called Concrete, East Village and Fabric are favs of mine, and always full of cute ladies. Good dance music played at all, no booking tables bull**** though!

There are a few decent websites about giving listings too

Brick Lane is usually at least 2am, if not later in some places.

Just remembered, Brickhouse, Cargo, and a little place called the Horse and Groom.

Buy Time out London, out every 2 weeks, full of all the best clubs/bars.

Enjoy, London is one of the best place for clubbing in the UK, if not the world, well it's up there.

Hey all,

Been living in London a few months now after moving down from Manchester. I'm living in Hackney at the moment, and definitely can recommend a lot of the Shoreditch clubs mentioned already as well as a few others - although I really need branch out a bit more from the East.

Yet to play any live games down here but going to venture into the scene sometime soon, although its strictly cash for me despite the tourneys right now. Probably some £1/2 at the Vic or Empire or something I imagine.

I gather from skimming the thread you guys have some meetups? Would be cool to meet some other poker players in London, hope to get involved next time.

Good Luck

I'm a Manc ex-pat, been in London for over 8 years now, still get back there for the Electriks parties and Warehouse project form time to time, although don't play in the Empire or Vic, for work reasons. You should really try the international not far from you if you're in Shoreditch.

Hey, just wondering how the cash games are at the empire now that the wsope have started? Is there a long waiting list? Are the low-stakes harder/ softer? I'm planning a little trip, but can't be bothered if there's an hour waiting list and don't really want to go in a pond full of sharks compared to the usual..

I know there is the Broadway Casino at 5 ways and Gala Casino. I don't know if they really have poker rooms there.

Thanks
Can anyone give me the lowdown?

Thanks

On Wednesday at the Empire they had five tables of £1/£2 NL with an interest list for £2/£5. I don't think you need to worry about sharks.

I am thinking of going to London for a year and grind live poker for a living.

If I want to play minimum NL 1/3 deep tables or NL 2/5 tables, what casino has the best value? Is it still the Gutshot or maybe Empire? I believe I have read that some other casino has become popular.

I do not have any papers to show in London (have no work on paper) besides my swedish passport. I understand that I therefore will be forced to pay some months deposit to be able to get an apartment contract.

I am prepared to pay 350 GBP per week for 1 bedroom apartment, I am prepared to pay 2-3 months deposit, I want to live within 45 minutes from the casino you advice me to play at and I want to live in an apartment that is nice.

Is this doable and if so what is the best approach to do it?

Thanks!

Which part, the poker or the accommodation? Finding a good, cheap flat in London is a lot harder than finding an easy NL table

£350pw isn't exactly cheap though.

I live in Camden - about 3 miles from the Empire, perhaps 4 to the Vic, both are 20 minutes away by tube. Those are the two biggest poker rooms, you'll have more luck with 2/5 at the Vic on week days though. I pay £1170pm before bills for my fairly nice one bedroom apartment.

You have any idea of my possbilities to sign a contract without having work on paper?

My guess and hope is that if I get to talk with the apartment owners first hand and not thru an agency it will possible to get away with paying 2-3 months rent of deposit.

What is your guess?

Thanks for your answer!

Yes, you've probably got a better chance that way. Particularly if you can pay in cash. A poker pro friend of mine just moved to London and had to pay 6 months up front via an agency.

Being able to wave 4k cash at a private land lord is certainly pretty powerful, but it's actually quite hard to find them. I looked on Gumtree and half the "private" landlords were really agencies trying to get around the filter.

I suspect that if you go through an agency, they're as equally interested in your credit history as in your income.

Don't want to sound like a killjoy, but you'll probably make more money with less variance by getting paid employment. Long-term it'll be a lot better on your CV, you'll gain useful skills, meet more people, and (if you care) be doing something useful. You can still go and play poker every night if you want.

Thinking of going to the empire casino soon, never played live before, is it all fairly self-explanatory? Is there some sort of booth where you buy chips then you just sit down and play?

Thanks

Does anyone know if The Vic is still running its regular tournament schedule at the moment, given that it's that time of year where all the big players are in London?
