Does anyone know if the new Fox poker club runs a 1/1 cash game?

Also can anyone tell me if there's a skill difference between the Vic and the International's 1/1 cash game?

The opening was delayed and the latest information they have given is that it will open by the end of September.

I have not played 1/1 at the vic, but at the Int, I would say that so long as you play ABC poker, you will end up a winner. Limp your spec hands from button, Raise you big hands for Value and you will not go too far wrong.

If you do play at the Int, start early, I like to go around 7pm and by half 2 the stacks have got really deeep that you should be able to make at least 3 to 4 times your buy in.

In fact, what is 1/1 at he Vic like?

Thanks for the info - I've played 1/1 at the Vic quite a lot over the past 6 months and it's really weak. I've ran bad and I'm still up 5ish BI from playing only around twice a month.

Plays pretty similarly to how you've described, lots of limping and calling stations willing to call big bets OOP with weak aces. There are a few decent enough young players, but its rare for anyone over the age of 40 to be good and I'm normally the best or second best player at the table (and that's not a brag, I play very recreationally and don't even consider myself to be particularly good!).

Game runs pretty much 24/7 - runs all the time Friday - Monday morning but from what I've heard there aren't always games as early as midday Tuesday - Thursday. On weekends after 7ish there are normally 2-3 tables though.

I've always left before 3 but from what I've seen the turn-over of players is pretty high and stacks don't get as high as you've described at the International. Maybe they don't at all or maybe I just haven't stayed long enough before.

Games are good, wellrun and dealers are friendly and more than competent. I'm 18 and having a gap year so hope to play a lot more than I have done recently and run a little better too.

PM me if you want to meet up to talk strat or something

This is what i found at the Int also... the buy in is 100bb max and when i first sat down it felt like i was in the late stages of a tournament... everyone was fighting for a stack.

Game started to even out after players got a bit deeper.

For small stakes players, the International has a £1/£1 Dealer's Choice game with pot-limit choice of PLO, PLO8, 2-7TD, Padooki, Courcheval, superstud, Irish, stud, stud8, triple-flop omaha amongst the choices. With all flop games each button gets to choose how many cards received by players ranging from 4-6 cards(Irish is 3-5). As can be guessed the triple flop Omaha is a wacky one.

Had first experience of live poker in London on Sun night/Mon morning. Was playing 1/2 at the Empire at a very weak table. Played from about 3 til 6.30am when the table broke. I had been to a club before so was a little out of it but the play was more than poor enough to compensate for my reduced mental agility.

Got called for string betting a couple of times. When i was opening, say to £8 pre, i would take a stack of £10 in chips and (with one hand and moving all the chips at the same time) put the first £2 down and the £8 beside it. I thought i was being helpful - lets everyone see clearly what the raise is. The dealer called this a string bet. I thought this was a bit harsh and tbf the other players tended to agree. What do you think about this? I only really play online and have no idea of live etiquette.

^ standard, everyone makes mistakes like this when they first play, but you soon get used to it and just throw the chips in.

If you want to be helpful, just say "raise" before you do this.

Played some poker in London recently, i played £1/£2 at the Vic, and it was soft to say the least. I finished up like £400 after about 5 hours. Some rich fella was awful and called my 5 bet shove with AJ i had AA and they held up. He instantly re-bought and i took some more money from him, which was nice!

I went with two friends though and one of them has no interest in poker at all really and he played blackjack for a few hours sat at the same table/pit as some man who told him about a £4/£8-£5/£10 game that goes on with some of the richer folk within canary wharf. We where going to go and play but then remembered we weren't rolled enough lol. Anybody heard of this before? or were we being BS'd because we are from 'up North'

The Empire may get more tourists but the rich ones tend to play at The Vic, that's one reason I prefer it.

As for the game invite, I can't say that's normal. Your friend must have looked like an especially easy mark

Well as i said he doesn't play poker but has rich parents and he probably told this fella he was just a pure rolled gambler lol, i really wish we went actually just too see if it was real. Then i would have took pictures sent them into the News of the world and gone 'look what the bankers do with our money' and made loads from that picture! Not that i have anything against bankers, i just like money

I'm sure the papers would pay a fortune for a picture of a bunch of people playing poker! Why not mock one up?

Not sure where the idea that their money is "our" money comes from though... and it's not like it's being wasted on pink champagne, fast cars and beluga caviar - just being shuffled around between consenting adults... wouldn't expect News of the World readers to understand that though.

Your local MP singing off his degen session to expenses would be a better story imo.

Never heard of this place but just looked at website. My guess is that you are 10 years too young to enjoy Soho private members clubs.

If you want expensive/filled with tossers, find somewhere in Mayfair, Chelsea, South Kensington... Movida, Boujis, etc.

For less expensive clubs with young-cute-girl-potential and the best music, just buy yourself a copy of Time Out and see what dance clubs they recommend.

Hey, has anyone played in Birmingham? I just moved here and was wondering what kind of cash games were spread and where. What limits, level, hours, rake...etc.

I know there is the Broadway Casino at 5 ways and Gala Casino. I don't know if they really have poker rooms there.

Thanks

Revolutions (I assume this is the vodka bar) is a good way to drink yourself to death, and I say this despite having spent a year in Eastern Europe. What are you after Nice_2_Beat_U?
