The Vic- 2/5 games? Run regularly? Hours?
If you want 2-5 then the Vic is definitely your best option as it runs every day from mid-afternoon but is mostly full of regular nits at that time, so be warned. However there are usually two tables running in the evenings full of a good mix of players, especially at the weekends.

As for the Palm Beach I can only pass on what some friends who have played in it tell me. It is not a regular game, best to ring the casino in the evening to see if its running. It plays a lot bigger than 5-5 as it's uncapped and if the right crowd is playing then expect double, if not triple straddles. If you have the bankroll and can deal with huge variance it can be a very, very profitable game.

How far is the closest casino from Gatwick or Heathrow? I have a long wait for a connecting flight in a few days.

Gatwick isn't very close to Heathrow. Which're you landing at? For the latter, in theory there's a place near Kew but I think ideally you'd just go to the Vic - it's about 40 minutes from LHR3 by tube.

Both, actually. I arrive at Gatwick, but have to take the shuttle to Heathrow. Forty minutes from Heathrow? That is far. I suppose I'll have to save the poker for a different trip. Thanks for the info.

Heathrow & Gatwick are both on the edges of London - the former's the busiest airport in Europe - so I'm afraid everything is about that distance from them.

I wouldn't worry about trying to find a hotel specifically near to one of the casinos, the tubes around london are very well coordinated so you're never going to be more than 20-30 mins away from any casino.

That being said if you really don't want to get a tube look near Leicester Square that's is where the Empire is, the whole area is filled with hotels, clubs and bars. Vic is Edgware road....kind of the Middle Eastern version of Chinatown, i wouldn't look here.

Here's links to some of the hotels i've been to in London and can vouch for.

http://www.novotel.com/gb/hotel-3107...ge/index.shtml - 2 stops with 1 change from both Empire and vic on the tube which is literally right outside.

http://www.doylecollection.com/locat...one_hotel.aspx - Amazing hotel slightly longer trip to both casino's however it's worth it.

Both are expensive if you want something cheaper search for any of the "Premier inn's" or "Travel Lodges" that are located literally all around London.

London Metropole is a pretty nice hotel & it's on Edgware road (same road as the Vic)

If you're going to Heathrow from the centre of town (as opposed to straight from Gatwick, where you'll basically be going nowhere near Central London or any casinos) then you'll be taking the Paddington Express train, 20 minutes to Heathrow from Paddington station. The Vic is 5 minutes taxi or 10 minutes walk from Paddington.

None. Poker just isn't popular enough to make it worth the effort for the London casinos. Even the Vic would be classed as a small room in the US and that's the largest room in London by far.

I'm pretty sure it's against the law too, like comps are.

Even with the updated regulations a few years back? I have been given discounts for restaurants before so is that just for room comps?

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if that's true. The laws in this country are pretty bad when it comes to poker and casinos in general.

You get free soft drinks and coffee etc at Grosvenor casinos when playing poker, and that probably would legally count as a comp.

Grosvenor Casinos offer free soft drinks to everyone inside the casino as a whole, not cardroom restricted and whether you're actually playing or not... I didn't inquire at the Vic but every other Grosvenor i have been too this is the case

Hot drinks are no longer free at the vic, not sure about fizzy drinks

The Vic is a nicer card room but the Empire has softer games.
