I can't comment on the Hippodrome as I haven't played there in forever but there should be a lot of tables on a Saturday night.

Yes people tip in London. Can't say for sure elsewhere in Europe.

Yes there is a good amount of tables. I'd suggest (although it won't be popular here) to bear in mind the Empire. Check the twitter accounts of both and you can get a gauge of which games are running where and go accordingly:

https://twitter.com/PokerLSQ

The Hippo is a better room with lower rake but the games are seemingly a little tougher.

And yes, people tip, but in general not as much as they do in America.

Why does everyone say hippo is tougher or more reg infested? Ive played a decent sample at hippo and i always see regs hopping about, bumhunting as hard as they can.
Everytime ive played it has been insanely good, maybe i just run good with the table i get seated on.

Do they? I think live poker sample size is much too small to tell. Sometimes you get bad tables wherever you go.

Thanks for the help guys.
Yes for both questions. And Empire seems more EV+.

While this is undoubtedly true, once you've a good scope of exactly who the regs are (especially the ones you've noted as good), you can start to make educated guesses of which room is tougher.

Yes, that is true. Though as an online headsup player I used to like coming up against the same people again and again. Now if only I could figure out how to play live without being paralytically drunk.

Nah the key is to work out how to play well when paralytically drunk.

Thanks for the responses. Are Hippo and Empire close to each other, or is it safe to switch from one to the other around 2-4AM? I have one night so I wouldn't mind trying out both places as long as it's convenient and not dangerous. Also is 1 pound standard tip for every hand won at 1-2?

Thanks in advance.

They're about 2 minutes walk away from each other and yeah safe to walk in between at any time really.

£1 is fine. Some tip 50p. If the pots less than £20 most people tip nothing.

A lot of games give you 50p chips now as change from the rake, but can't actually be used in play, so essentially you can just use it for tipping (or at least I do). I'll normally only tip £1+ if I take in a pretty big pot, at least 50BBs.

Hi guys, sorry to be a noob, but do you guys have any recommendations for places to go out near the Hippo? Me and my gf are early 20's, and enjoy clubs and bars. Anywhere with good music, or places with cheap drinks?

Thanks

I'd go to soho, it's nearby and has a lot of cool bars, some clubs and lots of very good places to eat. It's about 5 minutes walk from the hippo.

Freuds and Bourne & Hollingworth are cool cocktail bars which I'm sure the girlfriend will like. For restaurants and clubs just whack a search in Google for good places in soho, but if you just walk around there'll be lots of options.

This.

If u can master the art of winning whislt boozed, there is nothing more tilting than seeing the drunk guy crush.

I think the advantage of playing a ton online is that you'll be fundamentally sound regardless of how drunk you are. The problems come when you have to remember what your opponents have done or figure out how they perceive you etc. I don't think I've ever played live cash without being drunk and I'm up quite a lot, lifetime. People take a long time to recover from a false first impression (particularly as I always wear suits)

I've played drunk twice live and have won £700 and £500 at 1/2.

Totally right about how it tilts opponents seeing a drunk player beat the table.

I get a little loud and obnoxious too which probably helps some :/

Also tend to get called down a helluva lot lighter too

The key is to find that little sweet spot before you get paralytic, where beer gives you that confidence to make the ballsy river play you'd never consider when sober

Hey, guys, any advice where I could find a decent place to stay for short term (5-6months) as close as possible to Palm Beach? (Mayfair). I can't seem to find anything under 1500pounds.
Any advice is highly appreciated because this is very urgent...

When are you planning to come to London?

I have a very nice place in camden which is available from the 1st June, and about 15 mins away from Palm beach on the tube.

If that's too far, and you really want to be very close, I think you'll struggle for less than £1,500... Although check out air bnb, you might be able to find a spare room for cheaper

You'd be much better off finding somewhere a little further out then using the Tube/Bus/Cabs etc to travel in. Paddington/Baker Street sort of area isn't too far away (15-20mins walk).
Green Park (nearest Tube to Palm Beach) has Victoria/Jubilee/Picadilly lines so why not even just look at the the areas near stations on those lines?

Mayfair is the most expensive part of London. The closer you want to be to it, the more expensive the rent will be.
