They will almost certainly make you leave backpack in cloakroom, if that matters to you

I think they probably would but it's free, just put a pound coin in and you get that back when you get your backpack back. (say that 5 times quickly )

she was crazy value, people on the table used to have to bite their lips as she'd just spunk endless amounts of money. Though she was a nightmare for the management. I'll never forget the time she lost a hand against a guy at the Fox, she literally climbed over the top of the poker table and crawled over and slapped him!

I heard that Rendezvous casino in Southend are offering rake free cash games every night from 8pm-10pm. Is this true?

What's this venue like? Lineups reg-heavy or fishy? Or does the game never run? (Rake free seems a little too good to be true).

not worth it, they are obviously trying to bring poker back to the Kursal, but i think Genting have a lock on it in Southend.

if you want value, go Aspers, southend/genting is only any good on Friday and Saturday and even then its 3 tables MAX usually 1/1 mostly nit regs with a few fish

Can anyone breakdown the Mixed game situation around London?

As far as I know the Vic runs a £75/150 and Hippo sometimes runs a £2-5 DC, but the last time I went the Floorman said I'd be hard pressed to get a seat unless I knew the players in the game.

After a bit of research the vic(grossvenor) seems to be the best place to play. I also see how their is a dress code. Would I be able to come in a semi casual outfit with a backpack?
Also what in terms of stakes/tables running could I expect on an average day?
Thx
No board shorts, ripped jeans, vests, tracksuit bottoms or flip flops. Everything else, tracktops etc fine.

I remember her climbing on a table at the Fox, getting on all fours and swiping at people like a tiger. And probably the best moment i witnessed, she sucked out on loud greek Andy in the Empire in a 700 pot, gave him the needle, pushed the entire stack to the dealer as a tip then walked off

The Vic is the only place that spreads DC, everywhere else it just erupts very occasionally when the right players are in. That limit 75/150 mix is probably the only limit action in the country, and from the little info I know only runs when a certain Russian fish who likes limit mix is in town.

I'd be happy to prop up a low stakes mix/DC game in a casino if it was spread regularly and supported by management. I'd bring a few players as well

As would I, but as with the International the Club/Players would have to be careful to do it properly. Games like triple flop and superstud are terrible when the game is bad (7+ players limp, causing multiple reshuffles, lowering the hand per hour to about 6).

I run a very small social game in a forced rotation game format. That works really well. I'd even prefer limit mix to be honest, but I'm clutching at straws there I think

The £75/£150 runs fairly regularly at The Poker Room, Mondays and Thursdays are generally your best bet. As for getting a seat, the line up is usually very welcoming to any new blood. The game plays up to 8 handed, but typically remains 5-7 handed for most of the night.

The £5/£5 DC game runs 2-3 nights a week, generally Monday/Tuesday/Thursday but is prone to spawn from a juicy Omaha game at any time.

Made my first trip to the Hippo today and it is much busier than what I am used which was good. I got there about midday and only one table was open, new table opened shortly after and I left about 6ish and there was 3-4 tables open.

Quite a range of people in there but generally friendly (when I left my table was talking about Russia's politics and religious viewpoints), although I'm pretty sure I heard a guy get barred for a year for a borderline racist comment after losing a pot.

I find Hippo to be the quietest room.
Lots of people wearing headphones and who seem pretty good.
By comparison Aspers is filled with loud idiots and Cromwell mint is full on well-to-do old people from the local area.

One of the tables (the table that was open when I arrived) seemed very chatty although a couple of the guys had been there for a couple of days - one had been there since about 11pm Thursday apparently. Even the guys at my table with headphones in were chatting - did have one old guy to my left for a bit who was a bit grumpy though

Palm Beach 5/10+ or Vic only rarely 2/5, 5/10.

Not a lot of 2/5 in London casinos from what I've seen, but 1/2 deepstacked at Empire and Hippo plays similar.

EDIT: Higher than that theres the 100/200 mixed game at the Vic

I was in the hippo on Friday night, got sent the back room where the game was pretty tough, all regs. Lost a BI boat under boat under quads which stung a bit. Lost another BI over the course of the night as I got a bit tilted through not getting any cards or hitting any draws.
How full of regs is the hippo on a normal Friday? Last time I was there it was definitely an easier game, just wondering if it's down to table selection or just that it's generally tough in there.

Think it might be table draw issue as one table looked like it was full of regs and I'm sure one guy was sat with at least a grand if not more.
My table was ok but lots of people came and went I think there was one other person that was there when the table open when I left. Throughout that time I had a guy to my left go through 4-5 £50 buy ins and played almost every hand. A tourist from Latvia killing time while waiting for a flight home, 2-3 super tight nits who only seemed to play JJ+. From my one and only visit it does appear table selection is key as a lot of people were asking for transfers

I would say Aspers has the worst players, Hippo the best.

Imvho London is a lot harder to win at than Vegas.

The Poker Room above The Vic casino has 2/5 or a 5/10 running pretty much every day of the week. Weekdays are generally your best bet if you want to guarantee a game.

The twitter feed has hourly updates about what games are currently being spread.

Tempted to try Aspers to pop my live poker cherry. Any tips advice on best times/days to play? Also how to handle the cherry pop session? I would be a bundle of nerves obv. and would likely make a bunch of mistakes. Plus I'm not very social at the best of times.

Live poker is always full ring, right? Would I have to curb my inner 3b monkeyness and play supersolid?

Advice for identifying better regs? No HUD omg.

It's such a tightrope, I really, really wanna try playing live but am dreading it for so many reasons.

You can 3 bet for value a lot as people generally don't fold to them. There is no point adding bluffs to your range.

People bet much bigger preflop than online and play much worse postflop. So it's about right to play as tight as you normally would - you should be tighter due to their preflop bet size, but in one of the few instances that this is actually true, you'll outplay them postflop.

Don't worry about figuring players out. Just play all your hands for value. It's more important to get used to playing than figuring out your opponents.

Later on, you should just try to figure out one player. There's no point trying to figure them all out at once. Pick the loosest player to figure out. The easiest live read to get is to check which players are planning to fold after you preflop.

Always bet in the same way with the same hand (hand with fingers, not card hand). Always protect your hand in the same way (I use my lowest denomination chip). Always cut your stack the same way. Always stack your chips the same way. Always announce your bet the same way (I always say the amount and try to say it the same way). Always put your chips into the pot the same way (I take the small stack of my bet size in my hand, move it over the line, and spread it out towards the dealer).

Don't fall for it when people try to get a read from you by moving their chips closer to the pot etc. You don't have to talk during the hand if you don't want to. When waiting for your opponent to act, just pick a spot on the table to stare at. Be aware of string betting - you need to move your entire bet over the line at the same time.

Oh, and order a beer. It's good signalling, particularly if you say it's your first time playing live.
