Hello chaps!

I'll be heading down to the Empire tomorrow night for a good Friday night session of drunks and suckouts.

Anyone else from here going to be around?

Hey there,

I'll be in London on biz and have a Friday night free (June18th). Are there any good tournaments that run in London on a Friday night?

Thanks

I've always thought the empire or the vic was the place to go for poker in london but this looks pretty sick.

Anyone have any reasons not to play there?

will be in london in june a couple days before the rest of my party arrives...best places for straight up cash games that would be going during weekday nights? looking for a casual game - the equivalent of 1/2 in the US. i have yet to book a hotel, so i may just look for a hotel near the chosen place.

Thanks for this!

I did check it out online, and unfortunately, the 7pm: £150 NLH Freezeout is on Saturday. I'm in town Friday night only

Looks like a nice place, and does have a £10 rebuy, but only 1000 chips to start (not sure of the structure).

Any other suggestions? How's this place?

Thanks again!

Sup guys!

I am a swede that am thinking of moving to London with my fiance and 3 year old son.

If I want to live close to either The Vic or Empire (45-60 minutes without a car) In what area should I look for an apartment? Please take in to consideration that we have a 3 year old that would like to be able to meet other children and play.

Also, is it possible for me to find a one bedroom apartment with the monthly rent of maximum 1 300 GBP per month in that area?

And is it possible to sign a contract without having a job and therefore paying maximum 2 months of deposit and one month of rent in advance?

Thanks!

Hello!

London public transport is incredibly good (don't argue, people, it is, lol) so you actually have a lot of freedom around where you live. I would definitely make sure you pick the right area for your fiancée and child and put yourself second because travel isn't an issue. Other than this, I'm not especially knowledgable about areas to live, sorry!

What I do know is you should easily be able to find a VERY nice place to live for £1300 pm. You might even find a 2-bed place for this money.

Regarding your job situation and desired deposit / upfront rent situation, this is tricky. I think estate agents have forms to fill in asking your job and annual income and after all landlords like security and stability. All they want are 2 things - regular rent and a safe property.

You should expect to pay 6 weeks rent as your deposit rather than 2 months.

It might be advantageous for you, in order to secure the right home, if you offer 3 months rent as security and perhaps after 6 months you get half of that back and the landlord can serve you 1 months notice if you miss a single payment and take the money out of your deposit.

Basically, if you offer the landlord security and promise a safe house and explain your circumstances (perhaps over a coffee) then I think you will be fine.

All the best for your move and your family.

You really don't want to live anywhere close to the Empire! It is bang in the centre of the nightlife/tourist area, and it is really not a place for families.

The Vic is also in a bit of a weird area, I don't know if I'd want to live round there either.

My advice would be look for somewhere around Notting Hill. It's really easy to get from there to the Vic or Empire, but it's also leafy and family-orientated with parks and play areas etc.

Don't forget the International Club, too - you could get a nice place nearby in Clerkenwell or Shoreditch for that budget.

That's the same place...

Empire or Vic are your other bets.

As already said, you can get to central London in under an hour from almost anywhere else thanks to the tube.

As for a nice area, there's loads:
Expensive but amazing
Notting Hill
Hampstead
Dulwich Village

A bit pricey but still lovely
Belsize Park
St John's Wood
Clapham
Wandsworth
Brook Green (near Shepherds Bush)
Fulham
Anywhere else in Dulwich

Cheaper and farther out from the centre, but still very nice
Finchley
Wimbledon
Kew

would just like to say that i agree with most posters liking the empire at leicester sq.
it was fishy, even for a fish! took a while to get the drinks and laughter on, but generally a nice room with good wibe.
this was in january, and i had stopped by the vic first. they acutally only had one £1\2 game going, with 20people on the list waiting. empire also had 20 people on list, but with more tables it only took 15min to get in.
it seemed to me that if you only wanted to play some low stakes and have a good time it's the empire. but for 2-4< (and plo) the vic is the place.
going to england june 12th, and gonna stop by both places to see if it still is like that.

also, it's england vs usa in the world cup saturday june 12th. we're staying at trafalgar sq. i guess most bars to watch the game are gonna be totally packed, but if anyone has any tips on a pub \ bar to watch the game it would be much appreciated!

Staying at the Novotel Hotel @ London Tower Bridge this weekend.

Best and quickest way to get from there to the empire? And are there any things I should be aware of when going to the empire for the first time? Is it easy to sign up and get straight in? Dress code?

Also thinking of going to a couple of daily tournys at the international over the weekend too, are these worth while or too reg/nit filled?

Empire seem pretty lenient from what iv seen but i imagine you cant wear shorts/football shirts, The Vic will make you put anything with a hood in the cloakroom, poker room can sometimes be cold up there so take a jumper

Was at the empire yesterday, ran good and won just under £1k, best hand was when some guy bet/called river for £250 with 99 on a J J 9 8 J vs my quads, i had to recheck my cards to make sure i wasnt going mad when he bet the river, lol live pokers,
