You should start another thread, but never mind. (Perhaps a mod can extract these posts?)

Bristol does have a poker room and it's pretty good compared to other regional rooms but isn't the same standard as the Empire/Vic or any of the Vegas rooms. It's the Gala Harbourside, their website is a bit out of date though.

They have tournys every night and one in the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday (as well as the evening tournament). The tournaments are SELF DEALT though.

They also have cash games running each night from about 20:00. On the weekends there will be a £0.25/0.5(!) NLHE game, a £0.5/£1 NLHE and a £1/2 round of each (PLO/PLHE). These are dealer dealt with a good rake structure (5% up to a £5). Dealers are mostly poor to be honest but there are a couple of decent ones, the very poor dealers won't be dealing the £1/2 game though.

The £1/2 game can be wild and good and I would recommend it if you can play plo. The 0.5/1 is on the tight side, but definitely the weak-tight side. Have fun.

Tips are generally not expected in Bristol but it never hurts to chuck them some change every so often.

I'm staying near Trafalgar Sqr on a Monday/Tuesday; what would be my best option for cash games and both during the day and night? Cheers.

Where do the biggest games run in London (5-10 NL and up)?

Do any of the fancy casinos like Les Ambassadeurs or Palm Beach spread poker?

Les Ambassadeurs/Red Room runs the biggest poker game in England - possibly in Europe - but it's invite-only. The card room manager has to like you. And if you're a poker pro you can pretty much forget it, unless you're a total crazy degen who would add to the game. In other words, Roland de Wolfe might get in; Andrew Feldman certainly wouldn't. The smallest stakes are 25/50, but they have higher tables where pots of £500k aren't uncommon.

Whoa, that's amazing!

And what about non- invite games 5/10 and up? Where are they spread?

How does that older Asain lady not get banned from the empire, she seems to be one of the noisiest poisonous people I have ever come across. I have only been up there twice the first time she was in the tournament and screetching cheats at two people at the top of her voice over and over.

Saturday she was abusive to most people at her tables, angle shooting on a few occassions, betting out of turn, exposing her cards and pretending there was an all in when there wasnt, abused the dealers, and then worst of all was totally agressive and in the face of a quiet German tourist trying to enjoy her holiday. The dealer at that table was terrible as well didnt give anyone any protection, mainly cos he was half asleep and not concentrating.

She then moved tables (away from my ears thankfully after 4 hours of her constant talking) seemed to lose a big pot was agressive and shouting at another player there too.

Lol, i know exactly who your talking about... she's always playing the turbo rebuy tournaments... one heluva annoying witch... I avoid the tournaments just because of that, and try to choose a cash game table as far away as possible from her. And if your up for it we could contionuously complain to empire about it, but i doubt they'll do anything since they haven't done anything about it so far.

haha I know exactly who you mean daveymck. Last 2 weekends I've seen her there both friday and saturday night, I usually hear her screaching before I see her though as you said. I guess i'll be avoiding her tables again unless her play is bad enough that its worth playing with her?

Are you guys on crack?

Ok she's loud and annoying but nothing that i've never been able to shrug off (in a donkament the upside is way less so i can see your point if thats all u play), plus she's normally gone within an hour unless she's run deep in the tourney.

In the ring games the benefits are easily well worth the cost imo. No need for details, but getting her banned would be terrible for the card room and the players.

(mainly the players)

I suspected that might be the case as could see the regs were all nice to her. I wasn't on her table (she'd bust from the donkament) so couldn't tell how she played, just that she was shrieking right in my ear for four hours, it did seem her nastiness was ramped up if she lost a pot and maybe I was just hearing the extreme end of her cos she was definitely way out of line.

I know the shift manager had a word later on and she did quieten down a bit.

Her name is Helen, she's been tempbanned a few times. She's very often drunk, but she's always good value. If you spend any reasonable amount of time in a cardroom you'll come across much more unsavoury and annoying characters; learn to deal with her. In fact, be friendly with her, and she'll be friendly with you.

which airport? if it's heathrow then i think your best bet would probably be the western on the A40, might take up to an hours drive in a taxi, at least an hour by tube (heathrow -> acton town, change onto the other branch of piccadilly line -> park royal, under the bridge, downhill for about 3 minutes). Games are good, from what I remember, and relatively small. having said that, I don't like the place and wouldn't play there myself, having had a nasty collusion-related experience there, and there's many stories flying round the london poker circuit as to their dodginess. an extra half an hour each way takes you to the vic, but I'm not sure there will be games running at those times.

I don't know the state of the games at the moment but the empire used to have games running through the night about 5/7 nights, might be that it's a rare occurrence on weeknights these days though. If there is a game running, that's by far and away your best bet.

If you're flying in to Stansted, take the Stansted Express train to Liverpool Street, and then get a cab the short distance to the International where there are sure to be cash games running.
