i usually buy in for 100bb, just make sure to be aware of effective stack sizes, especially at new tables. lots of people will buy in for weird amts, £40, £75..... and then play SCs for £15 preflop

The GUKPT London is coming up this month at the Vic, so I imagine that the cash games will be pretty good there over the next couple of weeks.

Edit : Better than the already pretty good games that are there.

Kudos to this thread

Used to be a reg at £5/10 and £10/25 at the Vic before moving to Asia

The Empire games are sick soft and there was a period when they lifted the cap on the buy-in at the £1/3 game. This was done to accommodate one particular lunatic who liked to buy in for 5k or whatever. One day I went and played there and sat in for 5k. The game was mental, loved it. Nice memories.

focus on objectively estimating your edge in the game given what you know rather than results, you're going to be nearing death before you have a good idea of your winrate when it comes to live

agreed - i know the math and this elusive "long-term"... still thought that tracking 100 hours worth of results would give me SOME sort of idea

that aside, any advice? good books, best times to play etc....

Is this still the case? I read earlier in the thread that you can walk into the Empire and play without membership. Does this also mean you can play if you are from out of the country?

I look forward to playing in England, but hope that rule of having to wait 2 days before you can play is no longer in effect.

If you need to be a member, are there membership fees?

Travel agent helped me out....

"Until 2005, to become a member of a London casino it was necessary to fill in a registration form 24 hours beforehand, but changes in the UK gambling laws now enable you to join online, via the casinos own website."

Guess now I need to know which clubs to join... I will try asking over at pocket fives....

Cheers

haha forget pocket fives...

the three clubs you will hear quoted at you most often are the Vic, the Empire and the International.

I've only ever played at the Vic so I'm not best placed to make a comparison but there's lots of information on all of them in this thread. Have been impressed with the Vic, fwiw.

Hi
The EPT is held at the Metropole Hotel , in conjuction with the Vic. All the tournaments are at the hotel, cash games at the Vic. It's about 2 mins away and there is a free shuttle service. last year there was 25+ cash games running, which for London is unheard of.

I dont know if this is applicable to London as the London casinos tend to have rules of their own but when I was working in a casino in Cardiff when they changed the gaming laws they made it so you dont have to be vetted anymore - ID is still required and most places still require you to sign up to become a member before you enter but they will let you enter on the day as a guest until your membership is processed. Some casinos especially the chains will process your membership on the spot.

They normally have a mixed limit game at the Vic a couple of nights a week, i've seen it been played at £25-£50 & £50/£100. Not sure on the exact mix of games, but usually includes Holdem, Omaha, Stud, Razz and triple draw.

Nah, as far as I know they only play Pot limit mixed game rotation. You'd be very hard pressed to find limit games in london

I was at the Vic 3 nights a week ago and saw a 50/100 mix limit game running one night and a smaller (25/50 maybe?) limit mix game running another night...seemed like a regular thing.

Hi
There is a regular £75/150 limit mix game, 3/4 nights a week at the Vic. The games are:
Hold Em
A-5 triple Draw
2-7 Triple Draw
Razz
Stud 8 or better
Omaha 8 or better
Sometimes Badugi.
During GUKPT and EPT the games will run with higher limits. Im sure if you wanted to play higher on a normal night, there would be a game available.
Kevin.

Hi
Maybe you should give it another visit.Alot of things have changed and improved. The management have finally decided to listen to the customers. the food has improved, there is alot more tables in the room , more choice of games and the staff actually smile sometimes

There also now , satelittes for " Freedom Packages ". Instead of winning a seat, you recieve a £750 ticket. This can be used towards any event in the GUKPT.If there is any left over you can use it in any regular tournament.

I don't have much against the vic, i'm just hardly venturing out for live poker at the moment

The Vic - "The" London card room, has the history, the biggest players and the most tables as well as all limits up to high stakes. Runs 24h and you will always will find a game, note however that the players are also amoungst the most proficient. You are more than likely to have a few regs and the odd pro at your table, even down to 1/2. Still very beatable though, especially if you come ready to play fresh 11pm-4am.

The Empire - Hosts the WSOPE. No registration required to play but will be needed if cashing out more than £300. Has the highest number of passing trade due to its leicester sq position. Tables can be a real mixed bag of shortstackers, rich roulette players, tourists and the odd grinder mixed in. Tables will get super deep come 3-6 am as the money is syphoned off to the regs (note however that the skill of the regs is not of a particularly high standard)
All tables are 1/2 holdem bar the odd 1/3 game that runs and sometimes lolmaha. Note that it is somewhat less professional than the Vic as the poker room is run as a part of casino, opposed to a seperate entity. I have seen some questional rulings and its pretty much how the card room manager feels as to how the decision is going to play. Recently added a bad beat jackpot which has increased the rake.

International - Private members club, you don't need to pre-register but you will have to register on turning up, also you need the signature of two other members to validate your membership so its quite a close nit group of "enthusiasts" (degenerates). Haven't been for a little while, but the word is that the omaha cash games that run are pretty live. You can watch a live stream of the tourneys @ the Gutshot website.

There are other smaller clubs dotted around but they will generally pale in game selection and quality to the main 3.

Although I agree that the international is a small circle but remembering back to when I was first getting into live poker, it's certainly the most friendly poker circle I've ever been a part of.

And yes, the PLO games are extremely live and very deep.

I might head down to Empire tomorrow evening, any idea if tuesday is going to be at all fishy? Looking for a bit of fun, but im under rolled for these live games if im honest so would rather have a skill advantage going in, i play 25 and 50nl at fulltilt.

Also may go down on fri/sat, heard there are waiting lists for the tables? How early should I get there to degen it up for a few hours without being exposed to huge waiting lists or player dealt tables.

Also want to play 1/2 or 1/1 if dealer dealt.

Going to be in central for a market research dealy, nice easy money £50 for 1hour30 min

tldr
Empire standard on a tues?
Empire waiting lists on Fri/sat?
Fullring nl games at 1/1 1/2?

I've only been the once on a friday, I got there at 6pm and I was first on the waiting list as a tournament was still running. However, when I left at 9pm there was about 15 people on the list.

THe games are fullring 1/2 minimum I believe.

No idea about tuesdays

^ i believe (although i may stand corrected) that if you're looking for 1/1 then the Vic is the only big name to go to
