Isnt the GKUPT Main in London usually around £100-200K uptop, would this type of PP still be achievable if lots of people are in LV, given the turnout for the midi? The last leg in london in Feb the Midi had £77K uptop and the main was £185K, huge - I suppose itll be about half that?

Cheers!
I would guess you might be right about 50% of Feb prizepool (my view is probably slightly more) but don't think it is because half the field will be in Vegas as you suggest. February had tailwinds of people getting back into live poker for first time "post-covid" and also summer people tend to be travelling / have plans.

Has anyone been to or got information on the Eltham Terrace Club Poker Room? Been dabbling with the idea of playing some low buy-in MTTs and this came up. Any info on the vibe / atmosphere? Is it a bit too reggy? Don't particularly want to play where everyone knows each others' names. Thanks in advance.

... I guess the deafening silence says it all really. Probably a hard pass then.

Na I haven’t been but was just looking at the website the other week as it’s in south London like me so was wondering about the cash games there, didn’t say much about them though.

Looks like a social club kind of place, I used to play in one where everyone knew each other and it was a good atmosphere and decent games guess it might be the same there.

How are the queues at the Empire these days? Fancy a game starting about 8ish tonight and have been putting it off for a few weeks just as the last time I went a couple of months ago only about half the tables were in use and the wait was ages, guess they were short of dealers so wanting to play tonight but not wait around for an hour or more first.

More tables seem to be running at The Empire these days but there will still probably be a waiting list at 8PM. Hard to say a definite time but usually not more than 30 mins. Shame they don't text you when you're seat is available, like they do at The Hippo. It may well be very busy tonight though as the Super Series is running at The Hippo and there's always a long waiting list there during MTT days and there will likely be players wandering over to The Empire as well.

So EPT London coming back: https://www.pokerstarslive.com/ept/london/

Exciting, assume there will be the usual EPT extra tournaments like £500 8 game mix and £500-2k hypers most nights also.

Cash games not at the venue is a bit crap though. "Free shuttle" to Hippo from Park Lane..

One observation I'd like to make after three long sessions yesterday in the West End...

The Hippodrome really need to speed up some of their dealers. I know they've had a training program there recently but I get Mr Slow at my first session at The Hippodrome - I've not seen him before - and he's there for the long haul. First he chastises me for mucking my cards before he's finished dealing - that's a first; then I decide to time him just to make things interesting... 20 hands in 52 minutes!! Sure, new dealers need to be "broken in" but this was bordering on tilt-inducing behaviour - no one should be dealing that slow.

I pop on over to The Empire with the card-shufflers and quick dealers (maybe I should have timed it for comparison) and it's lightning fast! A much smoother experience despite getting absolutely destroyed at the tables. I decide to rectify matters and head on back over to The Hippo for an all-nighter and I'm lucky to get the competent dealers and a relatively better hands-per-hour rate.

This is not a rant against all Hippo dealers... most are competent and fast. But maybe the introduction of card shufflers would (a) increase productivity; (b) make the players happier and; (c) actually make The Hippo poker room a lot more money in the long run.

The end.

What's the highest NLH game that gets up consistently in London these days, and where is it at? Palm Beach is no more?

Thx

How would you exchange euros coming from euroland to play London EPT ? Has anyone experienced source of funds questions during EPT events?

You can buy-in online on Stars?

Not sure about your country but at least in the UK, it's not that hard to find GBP:EUR FX from high street FX shops with <1% vig but I realise that doesn't help you.

Asking here to change X euros at xe.com rate for GBP might work out. Few months before EPT Prague which isn't ideal in terms of people not wanting to hold euros for months.

My go to for changing larger amounts of FX at decent rates has been Covent Garden FX for quite a while.

So what is best for the casual / semi-reg players?

The Empire - With card shufflers (giving players 20-25 secs less per hand on average).... but players paying £1 on every won pot over £20.

OR

The Hippodrome - With no £1 paid on £20+ pots... but no card shufflers (making hands around 20 secs longer)?

Just curious if anyone has an opinion on this or whether this a factor on deciding which venue to attend.

Heard Palm Beach doesnt offer poker anymore. Dont think anything above £5/10 runs aside from random occasions during series. From what I have heard vic has the most consistent £5/10, but could be wrong. Since I never play live myself.

As a low-stakes player who plays at the West-End, all I can say is that The Hippo have £2/5 games going quite regularly but rarely it gets higher. The Empire is almost exclusively 1/2 at the moment and just doesn't attract the £2/5 games anymore.

The Vic definitely used to be the go-to place for £2/5 and £5/10 but I haven't been there since way before covid. So I'll suggest making enquiries at The Vic. You may have to ask around or try other forums for £5/10+ private games or for higher games outside of Aspers / Empire / Hippo / Vic.

Was in the Hippo on Monday evening and 2/5 and 5/10 were running. No idea how common that is

Looks like 10/25 NLH has been running at the Vic every night for at least the last week. If you dig a little deeper into the tweet timings you can probably work out how long the game runs for.

Yeah guys thanks for the above replies, I've checked London casino tweets, seems bigger games been running on the weekends.. might come for the EPT and hopefully cash games will be alright, despite the EPT not being held where cash is played...

Is there an app like Bravo or something that shows all the cash games running in London? It’s quite deceiving and not accurate looking on each rooms Twitter because it’s delayed and by the time I get there the game broke etc.

For example right now I see a 2/5 at Hippo which Im assuming isn’t actually running (might be 3 regs passing chips around, not a real game). Or a list & that game will properly run when a rec arrives. Would be cool to see where in London 2/5 or 5/10 (specifically mid-higher stakes as lower stakes run anyway) is running rather than have to look at Twitter or venture to the place only to find out the game broke.

Any ideas? I remember some sort of website someone out together that pulls all the Twitter feeds in one place but something like Bravo would be better.

If only we had the games that somewhere like LA or Miami have :/

That website is https://poker-cashgames-london.herokuapp.com/, still working but as you say it's just a scrape of the latest Twitter posts.

The Grosvenor PokerLive app has real-time current tables, waiting lists etc. e.g. for the Vic right now there are 6 waiting for 2/5 NLHE of which one is playing 1/3, two are playing 2/5 PLO456, two aren't playing anything and the sixth isn't in the club yet (you automatically get kicked off the list after 60 minutes if you're not in the casino).

HTH.

Does the Vic run daily tournaments anymore? I've seen 25/25's amd GUKPT in their twitter but nothing about regular daily tournies.

Also, does the Empire really run the daily tournies that are on their site? I just can't see them getting enough people mid-week at 2pm to have a tournament!

Not sure about The Vic but as far as The Empire tournies go: 100% Yes - these do run daily and they do often get filled. They even hired more dealers to accomodate the growing demand for more tables / players.

I played on Monday and it did run and got filled. I doubt I'll be going again though, the structure is so bad, starting with 80bb on a 20 minute clock makes it too luck based for me.

That's fair enough but you're never going to get much wiggle-room with such low buy-in tournies these days let alone be able to actually find any running at that entry price. The only other comparable place is the Eltham Terrace Club which only runs Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. That said, aren't most tournies (including those that run at The Vic and Aspers) pretty much glorified lotteries anyway?

Completely agree, the empire dailies are hyper turbo. If I could 6 table every day against the field that plays, I would but playing once in a blue moon is soul destroying. I also agree that tournies in the 250-500 range (anything that can finish in 2 days) that the Vic and Aspers run are usually what could been seen as turbo, so quite a bit more play but in a lot of senses still a bit of a lottery.
