Moving back to London soon after some time abroad.

Where is the best live PLO cash action? A couple of years ago it was the Vic only but have the Empire/Hippo got more games running?

They all have some PLO these days. Aspers seems to be 6 cards most of the time, Empire may still be doing the triple board but not sure. Hippo not as consistent as the others spreading it.

Edit ... check the twitter feeds for latest details.

Starting to gradually play back at The Hippo / Empire again after a long break (bankroll building) and glad to report positive experiences. Still playing 1/1 at The Vic but will hopefully make the full transition to West End / Leicester Square during the summer. Played at Aspers two or three times, like others have said, totally rubbish and always wonder why I ever go back. (£1 non-refundable fee for leaving your bag at the cloakroom! What The Actual F!!) Not to mention the £9 parking fee!

One annoying thing about The Vic is that many of the waitresses will just pocket your change from a beer/coffee if it's anything from around 50p-£1. I tip often anyway but it's the principle of the thing. Like they're entitled to it cos they think you won't miss it. Kind of annoys me and is a bit off putting.

Anyway, didn't mean for the post to be a rant but it is what it is.

Go to any gaming table and ask the dealer for a free parking token. They're supposed to be for table players only but 99% of the dealers won't ask questions, and if they do, buy in some cash for chips, get your token, then cash out.

So does anyone know if anyone is doing a London Live Cash-Game Poker Vlog along the lines of an Andrew Neeme, Johnnie Vibes or a Jaman et al? There seems to be a gap in the market for it but I think you'd have to be quite brave as the pool is so small. I've even considered doing it myself but haven't really got the technical know-how.

Plus our cardrooms are so highly strung I doubt you'd ever get permission to film inside.

I've played PLO at the VIC a few times over the past few weeks (1/2), there's been occasions in which the average age at the table has been 60 ... wonder why PLO would attrack senior citizens so much?

There's a lot of rich old guys who play at The Vic to pass the time and to keep the ol' mind active during their retirement years. A lot of these fellas are well over-rolled for the stakes they play at. Even some of the old 1/1 regs could easily play 2/5 or even 5/10 with their bankroll (but would get totally crushed). PLO is something different to the usual. It adds more of a thrill and extra excitement - and they won't go broke playing it.

Afternoon Guys

A couple of questions regarding Tournaments in London over the next few days
Firstly
I am playing the pokerstars megastack day 1C starting tomorrow at noon my last train leaves kings cross at 1am. any idea on what time the flight will finish if I make it to the end,do they play a certain number of levels or play down to a certain number of players
Secondly
On Monday at the Vic is the £500 monthly 8 max
How many players does this normally attract and what is the standard of play
Thanks in advance for any help or advice

Perhaps it means that 2p2 forum regs aren't playing the games anymore and thus live poker in London is softer these days?!

Or we're just really lazy posters...

Actually got inspired by checking the thread yesterday to put in a cheeky live session. Very rusty but thankfully the games are still good enough that it didn't matter.

Empire dealers doing a great job at keeping the games friendly and chatty. Makes a huge difference.

I have not played at the Empire for ages, there was a point in which the regulars in that room were absolutely insufferable. Not sure what the ambiance is like these days ... I'm sure it's much better than Aspers though

Well, 2p2 itself has certainly been in decline for some time, in 2009-11 there would be a new post in NVG every other minute or so. As i said, sad times.

Played a few sessions of PLO at Aspers recently as it was just down the road from where I was staying.

Such a dump full of degens. Had a somewhat known female player approach me for a backing deal, then proceed to just talk about blackjack LOL. Couple of other regs ask for loans too. Just so brazen and zero shame.

It's such an unfriendly playing environment. Most of the semi regs seem to be so angry and talk to the dealers so horrible, which means that they don't really talk much and it creates a bad atmosphere.

It's such a shame as the room and casino is really nice.

Did play some PLO at the Vic which was a lot more fun. The staff there are excellent.

Thankfully setting off early to Vegas so won't be going back to Aspers for a while!

They need nose pegs or deodorant at Aspers tables. NEVER AGAIN.

When it comes to dealers those at The Vic are definitely the best trained; striking a fine balance between friendly and business-like but efficient at the same time. Training of Aspers dealers seems less rigorous - I had one dealer call the floor once because she couldn't work out if it was a split pot! The best dealers at Aspers always seem to graduate on to The Vic or West-End.

Empire dealers are a bit hit and miss but are given more free reign and practically encouraged to banter with the punters. This give it that casual "home-game" atmosphere which helps to set it apart but which can also slow down the hands-per-hour rate which some players don't like. Hippodrome dealers are trained to be more business-like and less encouraged to engage in social talk. You could argue this makes them more efficient but it seems a lot of them have been stripped of their personality as a result.

A good dealer should be there solely to deal the cards, move the chips around and let players banter and enjoy the game in their own way... (perhaps throwing in an occasional quip here and there). A bit like a good referee in a football match, you should hardly notice that a good dealer is there. One of the worst things a dealer could do is to speculate about a player's hand or comment on the play - that's just wrong!

I am going to move to London in the beginning of June. This can be explained for different reasons, overall these are the reasons why I do this life change:

-Always wanted to live abroad for some time
-I am 30 and I feel mature in a way that I think is the right time for me to do this step
-I do not have a GF or any other thing in my life that attach me to my country
-I quid my job because I was not excited for my present neither my future
-I won some money in Poker this year that it makes it worth it for fiscal reson to move to the UK now.

More or less these are the reasons. From here you can figure out that I am not a Poker Pro, however I will tell you that I am not a recreational and I take poker very seriously and my love for the game is huge.

My idea in London is try to push myself harder than ever in Poker but I am not sure how I will do that or if it will work. Once I am there I will figure out the most optimal life for me in terms of happiness but also rentability ($).
Basically I am saying that I go to London to grow in a personal level and to get out of my confort zone. i want to play more poker than now obviously but I also want to have some fun and meet new people. Therefore, I can see myself living there with people that is not a poker player. I think I would prefer to do that than living with people that is just grinding at home and do not care about the real world. But if I can find a room with poker and life lovers it will be perfect and thats why I post this here

If you want to know more about me or you find someone that could be interested in fullfll a place or sth similar do not hesitate to contact me. We can meet by Skype or in Londond itself.

Cheers,

So I'm thinking of attempting to qualify for both The Empire AND The Vic's cash-race freerolls over late May and the whole of June. With The Empire doing their cash-race freeroll based on visits and The Vic doing theirs based on hours I wondered whether this sounds like a doable schedule...

Monday to Wednesday - Play at The Empire for about 1-3 hours each night.
Wednesday to Thursday Play at The Empire for an hour or so and then drive to The Vic to get the hours in.
Friday to Sunday - Play at The Empire for 1-3 hours each day and then drive to The Vic to get the hours in.
------
I work 9-5 but despite that have still found that grinding the 1/1 at The Vic using a fairly snug / low-variance strategy works fairly well to get those hours in. Obviously I'd take the odd day off here and there when the going gets tough (as I know it will at times) but for free entry into tournaments with effective buy-ins of over £1000 I reckon it's worth it.

But, for anyone who has tried something similar, will I suffer burnout and/or fatigue? Is this a good idea and a reasonable schedule? Thoughts?

Sounds utterly torturous Futtock. I have no idea why you'd do it to yourself, but if you're hellbent on it then good luck.

How much value is there actually in doing this? I've been away from the London poker scene for a couple of years now, but how much are these tickets worth, a couple of hundred each? Wouldn't surprise me if you lost more than that in expectation playing these unbeatable games.
