Yea yea, I knew that would get these replies! OK, any other visitors to the thread who would like to meet up please simply type "MEET" in your reply.

Lets keep this running until Friday and then we will collate the names and choose a date. If we dont strike while the irons hot it will never get sorted!

MEET.

As an introduction - I've been lurking in this thread for a couple of weeks so thought I would finally get round to actually posting. I am normally an online MTT player and when I play live I tend to play in the tournaments at the Fox. However, after busting the deepstack two Saturdays ago at about 12am I was stuck in Central London thanks to the snow shutting down the central line and the buses being completely rammed. To keep myself warm I went to play cash at the Empire and within a couple of hands my jaw had hit the floor at the standard of play I was witnessing. Highlight of the evening was the whale to my right picking up another players mucked cards and flipping them over without permission because he was "curious". I left at about 5am £370 up and since then have been checking this thread to get an idea of where the juciest games are. From what I can tell - everywhere.

Anyway I would be up for meeting too. As Dragon said, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese is a good pub. I'm free most evenings next week.

I live in the Hammersmith area (10 minute walk from the town centre) and like anywhere in London, there are good and bad parts but as a whole, it's nice and as someone else said, generally older than "trendier" parts of London but if you're 30, you'll fit in fine. Regarding flat shares, I assume you've been warned about the prices in London? If not, think of what you would think is ridiculously high, then add 20-40% and you might be close

Yes Sciolist thats exactly what were going to do.

I am formulating a plan in my head as I type and im thinking we will meet somewhere at a pub fairly near the Vic, and have a couple of beers and get to know each other and then when the evening passes if people want to go play they can, or we can go get food, or whatever.

So if that sounds good let us know!

Cheers

If it is not the place to ask basic question on settling in London, please tell me. i will not bother any of you on this thread anymore

My commencing salary will be £55,000 per annum.
Do you have any idea how much it will be per month after taxes ?

I calculated ~3,5 k£ w. this info: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/it.htm
but some told me it would be closer to 3.1 k£

Sick brag (you have a job, and it is over £30K per year), see you on the £2/£5 at The Vic.

Lol, actually i like to play in smaller rooms where there is not a lot of regs.
I don't think i have the stamina to play £2/£5. My usual level is £1/£2.
Last time, i played in a smaller room near Queensway station on the unique 1/2 table.
3 Asians gamblers, 1 casual local, 1 reg, 2 eastern europe guys... lot of small talk... really fun.

Now it is time for me to find a nice flatshare in Hammersmith. Starting in April ! Will try http://www.moveflat.com/

MEET

Congrats on the new job and yeah, bit of a stealth brag I reckon.

I'm a family guy and live up near North Finchley so can't help out much on flats etc. in terms of direct info, but my coworker found a small but very nice flat in Angel/Old Street - heck it was probably only a 10mn walk from the International - for about £1100 a month. Was definitely small but completely renovated and clean. I thought it was a great little flat. So there are some good spots to move if you can be patient - kinda like poker :-)

Is the company going to put you up in any temporary housing for the first month or so?

No temporary housing. I do not think i have any room to negociate this with the company.

Just heard that the company will move this year to Chiswick Park, near the District line. I guess Chiswick park is a bit too far from the center.
So my targets will be any area near the distric Line:
- HammerSmith
- Barons Court
- West Kensington
- Earl's Court
- Gloucester Road
- South Kensington
- Victoria
If you have any comment, do not hesitate to share. As i said i am 30 years old, newly single, no kid. Use to eat in restaurants a lot. Starting to feel a bit old when going to a club. Love Cinema/Stage Play.

I really want to move in a flatshare anyway. That's usually the best thing i know to meet people everytime i moved.
