Met with Joe the General Manager today and he said the stuff on my Cons list was already being worked on, including re-felting the tables, etc.

Seemed like he truly cares about customers input and continuing to improve and grow the club.

Was also nice I didn't need to shout SUCKA DEALA! as much today as I had a solid winning session, unlike my first trip on Monday. :P

I guess if the smokers would just have some common courtesy it would be an easy fix. They shouldn't need the card club staff to police their creating clouds of smoke all the non-smokers have to walk through.
We have two signs up now.

Thank you. Fortunately I only seemed to encounter the congregation of smokers on one day, may have been bad timing (perhaps a tourney break or something). Aside from that it hasn't been bad, but I'm only outside when I'm coming in or going home so not sure what it's like at different intervals out there.

Oh, noticed that the mens urinals there's a "rug" of sorts in front of them that gets real slippery, I didn't know until I almost fell when I stepped onto it. The restrooms could certainly use more attention during the big series given the amount of traffic.

Aside from that everything else seems to have run pretty smooth. All the staff has been friendly, attentive, appreciative of tips (unlike some other properties where you're lucky to get a grunt out of them). Kudos for running such a great property, looking forward to seeing its continued growth.

Also something the Lodge can't really do much about. Unless you're parked out front of The Lodge, the rows of parking just across from the entrance are very tight and difficult to navigate.

Played PLO tonight and both tables were very little action and lots of grim faces, kinda depressing. I may try to hit the games up early morning after people have been playing all night, see how it differs.

I played 1/2, 2/5 nlhe full time for 3 years until they closed my room. Try showing up around 4am and you should be out by noon. Worked great (this is not a troll). This was years ago but I would do the same hours if I somehow started again full time

Checked the app this morning a bit before 5am but there was only one PLO game running and no wait list. Didn't want to drive all the way out and find it was 4-handed. We'll see how tonight fares

I think the general rule with PLO is that games after 1am are action packed. I play in a home game that is fairly tame while I'm around but I hear plenty of stories of what happens after 12am when I'm usually finishing up and the table turns over a few seats.

I guess you have to consider that the gamblers and hard core Players who are willing to chase variance are still available to play at those hours.

Saturday I put in a 9-hour session playing until around 5am Sunday morning. Unfortunately booked a loss but definitely found the games to have more action, and players were more prone to straddling to 20 and 40 as they desperately tried to get unstuck in the wee hours

Your post was the first I'd heard of it. I checked out Berkeys podcast although I haven't finished their discussion on the subject. I think he sensationalizes the situation a bit, saying the room "forces" people to leave with cash without any escorts as just one example (you can always request security accompany you to your vehicle)

I do agree it wouldn't hurt to have some protocols in place during streams to provide alternative cashout options rather than leaving with bundles of it on you though (they may already do this, I am brand new to the room and haven't been involved in any streams)

When I lived in Tampa there were incidents of people being followed home from "private" high-stakes games in legal poker rooms and casinos in the area and getting robbed or shot, an incident in a parking lot as well. At the end of the day, criminals gonna criminal when there's money up for grabs, regardless of whether it's in Texas or anywhere else in the world.

I would prefer to see actual law enforcement officers providing security rather than a security guard firm or whatever they're using. Yes the cost would be higher, but I think worth the investment. However that may not be an option since Texas clubs operate in a legal grey area and perhaps the police departments are unwilling to provide a "stamp of approval" by being actively involved in a business that is legally up in the air presently?

Using local 'off duty' police is something that could be looked into. It could be complicated via the labor contract and/or local/state law regarding moonlighting. I'm pretty sure that some of the rooms in Indianapolis have off-duty in the room during play.

While I doubt it's a 'grey area' issue (pay is pay), it's still possible that they don't want to be seen as supporting a 'marginal' business entity.

As of this moment there's nothing that pops up via Google regarding Saturday's(?) robbery other than the podcast. GL

Anyone know of good food options nearby? Will be visiting for a few days and staying very close to the poker room.

Inside the back area of the room they have a few meal options for $10 that are usually pretty good and change throughout the week (hot meals, although they also have various premade sandwiches available in a small fridge and a variety of snacks). I'm not all that familiar with food options nearby since I haven't used any of them. I know there's a Whataburger in the same plaza that is open 24 hours.

Overlay of $28,260

I played the 11am flight and got SUPER lucky against PokerFace Ash when she raised and I shoved something like 12-15bb's with AT suited, ran into her AK suited and binked the T on the flop to double up and cripple her.

Then a little bit later I pickup KK and get it in vs AA and 88, bink the K and bust two players. I had 340K when the avg was below 200K if I remember correctly.

But unfortunately wasn't meant to be. Getting down to the wire with blinds at 5/5/10K UTG raises to 23K and I shove 208K UTG+1 with AK off, he thinks forever and eventually finds the call with pocket 9's and I lose the flip. Bust out 32nd (27 bagged for day 2 and were in the money). But considering I got super lucky to get that deep anyway I suppose I can't be too mad.

First place was paid in the 90k's and did not chop

Played some 1/2/5 PLO last week while in town for a few days and games were very good. I found it to be highly variable because you can have a bunch of 5k+ stacks at times looking to shoot it out, but you also get the usual 1/2 regs who repeatedly shortbuy for 300 trying to spin it up. After some reflection I think I like this dynamic, the shorter stack regs ensure there is plenty of fishy pre-flop play but there is also lots of money out there if you are playing deep. Action definitely got better after 11 PM, although it was pretty good before that too.

Also sat in a 2/5 NLH while waiting for PLO one night and it was easily one of the worst tables ever, 6 nitregs sitting there with 5k stacks playing heads up single raised pots for $40 waiting to make quads over quads I guess. Hoodies pulled over faces, nobody saying a word, the whole deal. Ugh

Hold em is the absolute worst. Earlier this past week the main game at the 1/2/5 PLO had multiple stacks in the 20-30 THOUSAND range (and you can match the stack). Games can get bonkers

yeah one of the nights there was a must move and the other it was just 3 separate tables, i did notice a strong main game / must move dichotomy when that was in effect. must moves were very soft and a little more passive, shorter stacks could hang around ... main game the big stacks were forcing you to gamble more pre in an effort to juice the stakes. both good games just required adjustments.

Another break-in in the parking lot today. Nice reminder that this place isn’t exactly safe and to for all to take extra precautions.

FWIW, I've been playing there since September of last year and haven't had any issues myself. That being said, ANY poker room or casino is going to attract thieves, they go where there is money. There are plenty of instances of theft that occur at casino properties with a combination of security cameras, security staff and their own sworn police officers.

I've never felt unsafe playing at The Lodge, ymmv

In the half a year I’ve been here I’m aware of a robbery (only through Berkey’s podcast tbf), two break-ins and at least one incident where a guy in the parking lot was trying to randomly flag down cars for whatever purpose.

I don’t dislike the room. I’m just saying its worth being careful, particularly at night, and arguably moreso than at a casino.
