Personally, I don't like the time rake for the simple fact that it is automatic money coming out of my pocket regardless if I rake a pot or not. Also, the dealers can be total nits and it doesn't matter because the casino is getting their money. I prefer percentage rake for 2 reasons. The first being that the dealers have to know what they are doing in order to keep the game moving and to get as many hands as they can. More hands = more percentage. The second is if I don't play my 7,2os for a hour i'm not penalized $14 for it.
I did a rough number crunch on the outcome of both:
10 players * $14 an hour = $140 (duh....I know)
30 to 35 hands an hour = $150 to $175 an hour. This is assuming that the dealer is proficient, and all hands are max raked to $5. Personally I don't think that this would happen but it's worse case scenario.
Now, I know that the hour rake SEEMS better, but again, I think that with that scenario the casino can bring in Billy Bob BlackJack dealer and you're going to MAYBE get 20 hands an hour.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, lot going on around here. Thanks to all those that have given their opinions, even the "passionate" ones. That's exactly what we want, your feedback. Like I stated earlier, we are open to change, specifically on the time vs. pot rake issue. We will be opening with all NL and PL games time rake, that is certain. But it will be possibly changing, so keep giving us your feedback.
And, please take into considerations these things that we will offer:
-Reduced rake - we will give reduced rake for shorthanded games and as a promotional type thing. For example, we've had quite a bit of interest in a regular mixed game or mid-limit Hold Em game. If we get it started and it is a regular game, Roger has said he will give a reduced rake for a few weeks to get it going. This is something some of our local competition doesn't do. As a matter of fact, one place I know that I won't mention actually increases the rake when time rake games get shorthanded.
-Amenities - we are going to have table-side food service and massage service. Again, unique to the local scene. $1/hour in comps and (coming about mid-August) a poker rate for the hotel.
-Different games - we will spread mixed games, draw games like Badugi or 2-7, regular mid-limit Hold Em...whatever our players want to play.
-Ambience - I will brag and say we have a very nice resort. A lot to offer in addition to poker (check out Party By The Pool/Liquid Society and our new full-service barber shop, 1740 Barbier). And the room is a very well-appointed, well-designed room. Only seven tables, but with the possibility of expansion in the near future. All tables have shuffle machines and we will use Bravo to track play.
-Communication - we will keep you informed on what we are doing. Like here on 2+2. Want to know that we're spreading 20/40 HORSE tomorrow? Subscribe to our Twitter (coming soon) and we'll keep you updated.
Room opens about 3pm Friday. We'll open a couple of hours earlier for a private game, and we'll start waiting lists around then. I would suggest getting there early afternoon. Opening weekend will likely be something to the effect of a PLO, four NLHE, and two LHE. Again, subject to change based on interest, but I imagine the lists for these games will be long.
For those wanting mixed games, minor glitch...for whatever reason, we forgot to add Stud/8 to the list of games to get approved by the state. So we will not have it for at least a couple of months. But we are able to spread several other mixed-game games.
Again, thanks for all the feedback. If I missed answering a question please let me know.
