I'll be kind of close to Lake Charles area for the 4th of July weekend. Any suggestions as to where to find the better game mostly 1/2-2/5 NLHE.

Laberge plays 1/3 and 2/5.
The isle plays 1/3 sometimes 2/5.

Laberge only has 8 tables, lists get long. Show up early enough and it's a good game all day.

Any other suggestions where to play in the area? Where do all the Houston people go?

Isle has fish, but really badly managed room and you better not be allergic to cigarette smoke. Coushatta is an Indian Casino about 20 miles north of Lake Charles, also pretty smoky, but preferable to Isle in my opinion. Lake Charles poker scene is pretty tragic considering how close it is to Houston. There is a new casino opening soon near L'Auberge that is supposed to have a poker room. Hopefully that place will give enough competition to motivate the other places to get better.

Coushatta or la Auberge imo. The Isle is just a dump

Golden Nugget confirmed in email the other day they will only have six tables. So much for the original press I had seen suggesting they would have a 20-table poker room...THAT would have been an enticement to drive over instead of flying to NOLA on a regular basis...

Six tables won't entice people and certainly doesn't leave the others motivated to improve a damned thing.

That sucks. I had heard 20 as well.

Only SIX tables?? :0

Wow, they could have had the whole poker market cornered with at least 10. 20 and it would have been 'Game Over'. Why drive an extra 30 minutes to play? Either somebody wasn't thinking or they just don't care.

Yeah agreed with the above about the GN poker room. I can't understand how this would happen. It really can't be that hard to add 4 or 6 more tables make this room a huge favorite above every other place. Maybe after a few months they will add tables. Does anyone know if that ever happens? Oh well. Will most likely be driving to New Orleans instead.

Interested in Limit Omaha 8 on Sunday at Golden Nugget or Lauberge. Anyone want to play?

And also, what limits are allowed in these poker rooms?

Isle is all 4-8limit or 1-3nl nl buy in is 100-300 but can match big stack. They have not spread any Omaha or 2-5 in a couple of years at least

LB has the above plus a routine 2-5 nl and 2-5 or 5-10 PLO but no limit Omaha. Both the 2-5 and PLO games often have a straddle on sometimes even mandatory. Even wITHOUT straddle these games will often play bigger than the limits not as often as they used to though

GN only opened Dec 7 so. Not as sure what will become normal but so far I have only seen nl played there up to2-5 but it was playing deep and bigger. 2-5 buyin is like LB 200-500 pretty sure you can stack match. Note much of nugget staff including room mgr came from isle so expect the rules and rulings to be similar

Coushata plays most of the above game plus 4-8HOE but not much PLO or 2-5. Unlike the other three it is a separate room so less smoky the other three you can smoke within 4feet of some seats

Game selection in LC is generally same or better the Nola but the nl games play tougher than Nola and with higher variance at lb and nugget

The other option would be horseshoe inshreveport they have a little better game selection but if you are going that far go ahead to wind star

Almost zero chance either would spread that game unless it was at least 10-30 or more likely 15-30 or higher. Very little interest in a limit Omaha usually

Unless they pull out some video poker machines there is no room to expand the rom at the nugget. Note it is not a separate room. Same for the other two. Remember poker is the worst money in the house for the house. Isle used to have a 25 table room and it only filled up a very few times a year like on New Years or similar then when LB opened their room it killed that room. So isle dropped to 8 tables using much less floor space. All together the three now have 21 tables

I think the rake at all three are 10% up to 5$ and all three also take $2 (1@20 1@40) for the BBJP and other promotions. Isle bob is about $240k. LB is almost $350k. And nugget just started is only about $50k

Been playing a few times a month at GN. Mostly Saturday afternoons and evenings. Always multiple 1-3 NL tables. 2-5 goes every saturday starting mid to late afternoon. Have not seen any Omaha go. 5-10 goes some Saturdays but not every week. I know that L'Auberge used to get pretty big PLO action, so a little surprised not to see it at the Nugget. I've played exclusively 1-3. Games play deep. Max buyin at new table is $500 (at least it was last week, seems that sometimes they'll tell you $400, sometimes $500). You can buyin at any time for maximum stack. 1-3 games play big here. It isn't uncommon to see average stack sizes at a table of over $1000. Games are easy with plenty action players. Food choices are above average, although Landry's the seafood place is below average for the type of cuisine. Buffet is better IMO for seafood. Italian restaurant is excellent. I think comps are $1/hr for poker. No Bravo, but upside is that they swipe your card at checkin stand if you have to wait for seat and your comps start while you wait.

Another upside is them (sometimes) forgetting to take you out of the system when you leave.

On a separate note, I'm surprised how slow it's been lately at L'Auberge. A couple of months ago I went on a Saturday night at around 9 and was seated within a matter of minutes. Usually, if you're not on the waiting list by around 4-5pm, you're **** out of luck and have to wait hours to get a seat.

Wow Lake Charles threads are dead. I’m heading for poker tomorrow, plan on hitting GN and Coushatta. If I should hit another room let me know. Staying at Coushatta as I’m hoping to degen some craps and they appear to have the lowest limits. I’ll try to do a write up to add some content here.

Most action will be GN in NLHE. LB next door might have some PLO Fri night. Coushata is mostly 4-8 limit and nitty 1-3 NL, do your degening there.

Would love to play some poker with you but will be in Shreveport tomorrow instead.

Stayed at L’Auberge for Thanksgiving week. Checked the poker room twice and decided it looked less fun than spending additional time with the in-laws listening to stories about fishing/hunting/other Dixie activities (previously I referred to that as redneck stuff, but apparently some people take offense with that word). Didn’t even bother going to GN after someone who works there told me the poker room was basically dead without the players from Texas.

I actually thought I saw that L’Auberge was more dead these days than GN. I’ll guess we’ll see.

Well I’m on the waitlist for $1/$3, two tables, appears to be nothing at Lauberge, ouch Houston rooms seem to be killing the traffic.

For years GN has had more games and usually better games. OTOH GN is 100% NLHE. Right now it looks like LB is likely to get their 5-5-10 PLO to go. If the right people or person get in that can be very juicy if you play Omaha and are rolled for it.

LBs other advantage is you won’t be deaf. GN on weekends can make you deaf. I often put on my NC headphones with nothing playing just to kill the noise.

Well an interesting trip. They ended up getting three games of $1/$3 and a $2/$5 while I was there at the GN. Really typical low stakes NL game, typical mix of players, no big donators. I played for 5 hours and bleed $130. Super card dead which probably contributed to me not playing my best game. Did play with a 90+ year WWII vet, except for maybe Jackie Gaughn, now deceased owner of the El Cortez in Vegas this was the oldest guy I ever played with.

Went to Coushatta later that night. This is a weird casino, must of had the brightest lighting I’ve ever seen in a casino. It was like a brightly lit grocery store. Place had three $1/$3 games going and $4-$8 limit. Wobbly tables, weird cocktail service. It was all guys servers, and one had a strong Louisiana accent and didn’t appear to write down orders. Every time he would just come back and yell what he had until someone said it was there drink. Players where typical to GN slightly better which I thought was odd as it was a later Friday night game. The game was uncapped so played bigger than GN. I had another frustrating card dead always 2nd best hand session. Played around 4 hours and lost $400. They did have &5 craps running the whole time I was there and I donated $100 after after playing poker. They also had a $10 table game match play and $15 in free play for signing up for a card.

I don’t think I’ll be back, I’ll need to check the Houston card room games.
