Shorty's, Auberge, Isle, Coushatta, Paragon, etc..........discussion of south-central Louisiana poker. Where are the players?

I'm based in Lafayette, however work mostly out of town as Petroleum Landman. Play tourneys with buy-ins up to $500, and 1-2 up to 5-10 cash. Currently in Youngstown, Oh and play mainly at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. Last couple of years have found me in Shreveport (mostly played at El Dorado), Oklahoma (played just about all of them but liked River Spirit south of Ok City and Hard Rock in Tulsa the best), and Scranton, PA--(regular at Mohegan in Wilkes-Barre).

Will be in Lafayette this weekend and thinking of playing either Shorty's or checking out Auberge in Lake Charles for 2-5 (never played there). Opinions?

Coushatta has a 1/3, Lauberge 2/5 is a loose very aggressive game.

Played in L'Auberge 2/5 game for first time Friday night. It was loose, but I didn't find it particularly aggressive. I booked a nice win after 3.5 hours. Posted a full report in the L'Auberge thread. Similar to the games at Cypress Bayou I guess. Larger pool of players than Cypress though.

Anyone hear of the new "private" poker club opening on Johnston Street in Lafayette in same building at Sticks billiard parlor? Supposedly legal, although I think they may be a little optimistic in their interpretation of the law. Any news appreciated.

Shame about Shorty's but that place never lived up to its potential. Plagued by poor management since the beginning. The manager wass a super nice guy, but in way over his head as manager of a poker room.

Any current legal games in Lafayette area. How about Midtown Social Club? New Golden Nugget in Lake Charles?

can't really speak for Midtown as I've never been.

as far as the poker room at the Nugget goes.. the staff's friendly, and they've started displaying the wait list on a TV screen behind the check-in desk. Beats having to ask to see the clipboard to see where you are on the list. Bad beat was at around $200k last time I went a month or two ago. Drink service takes FOREVER, but there is a cooler with bottled water. The constant DING DING DING DING from the slot machines in the area can be rather annoying. Comps are $1/hour, no tier points though unfortunately. Don't quote me on it but they may have a poker room rate if you're staying at the hotel? They spread 1/3, 2/5 and 5-10 (Fridays-Saturdays) NLHE, along with 4/8 limit. 1-3 $100 minimum-$300 max/biggest stack, 2-5 $200 minimum- $500 max/biggest stack, 5-10 $1k minimum/no max buy in. Action on weekends is ridiculous. Not a bad room, but personally I prefer playing at L'Auberge.

Has anybody been to Shorty's since they've reopened?

I checked out Shorty's couple of weeks ago on a Friday evening. All they had going when I got there about 6 was 3-6-12 limit game-1 game. I sat in on that for a couple of hours. They were about to get a NL game going when I left, the same 5-5 with $200 minimum buyin that they always had. No longer a dedicated poker room. Just a couple tables on the Shorty's floor

Wanted to bump the thread--at the current time, Golden Nugget seems to be the best option. Anything going on in Lafayette, proper?

To elaborate on Golden Nugget, my recent sessions there have shown 2-4 games of 1-3 NL going. 2-5 goes on occasion, usually only weekends. Games predictably weak-passive, plenty OMC types. 1/3 plays deep because they allow $500 buyin at new game and then 75% of biggest stack. Fish come in and out, some are regulars, others just passing through.

1. 100% match

2. Few OMCs but lots of loose passive who chase and bet when hits. Weak game overall and profitable. But plenty of variance.

3. No casino rooms in Lafayette.

4. Othe options are LB in Lake Charles AND Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge is really the softest and less variance but does not normally play as deep.
