Drove down for a day of poker playing in the only legal casino in TX. They have 14 poker tables. By midnight on this Saturday they had about 10 tables running. Although they will spread other games, 3/6 limit Texas holdem, 1/2 no limit holdem, and 2/5 no limit were the only ones running. I got on the 2/4 limit list but there was no interest from anyone else. There were quite a few regulars at my table ( i ended up playing 3/6 limit) but there was good action and I don't think the other players were particularly skilled. I got drawn out on a couple of times (set of aces beaten by 77 when the fourth flush card hit the river and I didn't have that suit, etc) and started off losing but managed to adjust to the game, take some chances on multiway limped pots and ended up with a $201 profit after 13 straight hours of play. From San Antonio, it is a nice drive on good roads about 150 miles and about 2 1/2 hours. There is not much on the road getting there so I recommend gassing and eating up before you go. You may have to drive about 50 miles or so between the few gas stops along the route. I got there about 10 am and there was plenty of casino parking, but when I left around midnight, there were people trying to find parking spots. The casino is loaded with slot machines and it is crowded with people who look like zombies roaming from one machine to the next. If you go to play poker, make sure you locate the restroom closest to the poker room so when you take a leak between hands, you can get there and back quickly. The poker room is well run. They have an electonic waiting list and were very friendly. The table I was at had an auto shuffler (although it jammed every now and then but the dealers were quick to do manual shuffles when necessary). The dealers were very proficient and most of them kept the action going without delays. The chairs were comfortable. The tableside food service was very slow though. I think they are understaffed for food service. I asked for service and it was about 2 hours before anyone came (around dinnertime). I ended up running out to my truck and eating some snacks I had just to hold me over. If you are a poker player and you don't like missing out on hands, I highly recommend bringing sandwiches. As other reviews mention, there are drink stations to self help for bottled water, soft drinks, and coffee and one of the stations is close to the poker room. Overall this is a great place to gofor poker if it is within driving distance for you.

So there is a 250 room hotel being added right now in addition to casino expansion that is supposed to be ready this Spring. Does anyone know if the casino expansion includes more poker tables?

Would be cool if the expansion brought some bigger games! I enjoy playing at Lucky Eagle, but 3/6-5/T limit and 1/2-2/5 NL is pretty low right now. Hoping the expansion brings some 10/20 LHE and 5/T+ NL, and maybe even some PLO.

I heard the Hotel is very nice and recently finished. I also heard they moved the Poker Room and it's actually pretty nice now. Thinking about heading down today from San Antonio.

Taught a seminar there a few weeks ago. Hotel was new and nice, poker room also very nice. People were very friendly, both employees and customers. Didn't see any fights or other crap at the other tables either, so maybe not just me. Pretty far away from most people to get to it, but definitely worth going to if it's convenient enough for you. Mostly holdem, some PLO. Not sure how often the PLO goes, call them to find out.

Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Thank you for the reply Mr. Raymer.. I think I'll head down this weekend and check it out.

sorry for waking up an old thread but has anyone been recently? On their site it says NLH 2/5 $200-500 and 5/10 $500-1000 doesn't even mention a 1/2 or 1/3 so wondering if the action has been picking up there or what NLH and/or PLO games usually get going on a typical weekend?

sorry again to awaken this thread but Annorax did u end up going? How was it?

Still find it way too ironic that this seems to be the only place that u can play "texas holdem" in TX lol or is it just me? Wish there were places everywhere, or is there just a lot of home games on the hush hush? Think I heard it's legal if no rake is taken?

Hello. Does anyone know if this casino spreads 10/20 lhe or higher? Their website says 1530 which would be excellent. Am moving to Austin in 3 months, this looks like the only casino anywhere close. Did the casino expansion bring more games? Thanks to anybody who answers.

I still haven't made it out there yet so not sure, and this thread has been dead for a while. I think our best bets are in NOLA or there's Winstar Casino in Oklahoma but both are at least 4-5+ hr drives from SA so maybe 1hr less or more for u in Austin, not sure.

I totally forgot to post my experience. Don't have time for a long one, but:

I was very impressed - probably because my expectations were so low. The property was a lot better than I thought it would be (I was 10% expecting a metal building sitting on a goat ranch). It's all slot machines (bingo machines, technically) and a poker room. The poker room is way bigger than they need (maybe they run tournaments?) and in pretty good shape. A couple of different restaurants will deliver food to you at the table and mine was pretty good. The action is decent, though it's obviously a game with a huge % of regulars. They'll put money in though, it's not a super nit-fest from what I can tell (lol n=1).

Would definitely play again if I'm in the area, but no telling when that'll be. The stop by Border Patrol on the way home at 3am added some culture to the experience.

I had a good experience too. Posted about the room and the action here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...&postcount=541

Cliffs: Nice room, friendly people and dealers who alternative between Spanish and English, bad players.

I was thinking about taking a trip to Kickapoo for my first live experience around mid-July

How's the action there? Do they spread 1/2 NLHE often?

Yes, any update on the poker here would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for a $1/$2 game

I have a sample size of n=1 but...

Seems they get a 1/2 game going consistently. Decent list for 2/5 but didn't run on my trip. Action is OK - tons of regs. Spanish and English is spoken at the table by players and dealers.

Kinda cool just to go so you can say you've been but probably not worth going down to grind for any length of time.

Food was solid.

Last time I checked this place only had no-limit hold'em, and it looks like they're spreading fixed limit at several levels - good to hear. Anyone been there recently?
