Email from Shane, the poker room manager at Harrah's KC:

"Looks like we are going to open at 6pm on Friday 7/24. We will be 5 handed and masks are required to play anywhere in the casino. After Friday the hours will be 10am-2am. Thanks for reaching out. I look forward to seeing you soon.

No word on the other two rooms, although there is some unconfirmed scuttlebutt that the room at Ameristar is closed permanently.

So is KC poker dead sans Harrahs? I've heard rumors of Ameristar and Hollywood permanently closing their rooms and laying off all the dealers.

Heading to KC this weekend, looking to play some PLO. Looks like Harrahs runs a 5/10 on Saturday. From above comments looks like uncapped buyin, would guess something like $500-1000 min buyin?

Please report back if you go, haven't been to Harrah's since before Covid.

Going to Arrowhead on Sunday?

Yes Sir. Go Browns! I'll definitely be going, just a matter of what I'll be playing, as my friend I'm going with is staying there.

Went to Harrah's on Saturday - PLO game was a $5/10 with mandatory $20 button straddle, $700 min-buyin, uncapped. $6/half hour timed rake game, with what looked like $1 taken out for promotions.

Lots of other tables running, although it looked like all 1/2 with a single 2/5 game spread.

Game was decent and filled with regulars who all knew each other. A few action players who were very aggressive along with some old guys who were pretty nitty. Ended up getting stuck $1500 on a hand where I thought a guy had trips but got a card to fill up the same time I had my straight (my bad).

Was definitely impressed with the players who were friendly and out of their way to be welcoming to the two outsiders that were there. One particular incident stands out - I got it all in with AAxx preflop with a player who was particularly aggressive. We had been running things twice, but the dealer dealt it out before we could agree on anything. He hits a straight on the board, I stand up to walk away, and he says "no no, you always run it twice, we are running it twice". Totally didn't have to do that. We run it twice, he hits 2 pair AND has a flush draw. Turn brings him 3rd pair, so I'm drawing nearly dead. The board pairs on the river giving him a worse 2 pair than me and I luck out. Total class act of a guy to let me do that. It was like reverse angle shooting.

KC fans at the game were definitely welcoming and gave me some teasing before the game but all in good fun and enjoyed an exciting but disappointing game, but fans were very kind about it afterwards. Would highly recommend going. Just wish they wouldn't play that annoying RED NATION song so much. Stuck in my head.

Thank for the TR, I appreciate that.

That game sounds like a lot of fun but 5/10/20 PLO is definitely too big for me. Especially considering how bad I am at PLO.

I’ve been checking Bravo semi frequently and on weeknights there are usually 3-5 1/3 NL games going and not even a list for 2/5. They’ve always had a pretty decent 2/5 game on Friday nights, good to hear they get at least one table going on Saturday.

I think most visitors agree that Arrowhead is a great stadium to visit. Good to hear you enjoyed it. Wouldn’t be too disappointed about the outcome of the game, Browns looked legit. Mahomes happens.

I didn't expect the straddle, so was a bit underrolled for the game. Didn't help I was on a big losing streak before this as well. However, coming from Texas it was a smaller game than I expected. Here a 1/2 5 to go PLO game would play just as big as that game a lot of the time. I played a 5/5 game here that played even bigger than this game.

I didn't see any 1/3 games, just 1/2 (something like 8 tables? with a big list) and 2/5.

Looks like there's a 1/2 PLO on Thursdays if you want to get your game up. I can't imagine it being that hard. The play in the 5/10 was not especially great but not especially bad either.

It's 1/2. Always get confused when there's a place left that still offers that

Thanks, I'll try to check that PLO game out. Most of the NL games around here play relatively small where people are pretty loose passive preflop but postflop stacks usually only go in if someone gets coolered. I wonder if that has to do with the fact that there's no free alcohol or maybe it's a Midwest thing?

There was tons of drinking in that game. But it was way tamer than I'm used to in Texas. Way fewer showdowns than I'm used to for sure.

Just make sure you call about noon to get on the list, otherwise you might not have a seat for a while.

Hollywood is reopening on Dec 9th, per the Bravo and a phone call to the room manager.

Has anyone been up to Hollywood KC since it reopened? I saw a few games running on Bravo a while back but seems like when I check lately, there is nothing. Hoping it gets busy again.

Was up there on Wednesday. I think 3 tables of 1/3 were running plus some 4/8 and maybe a PLO game? Action was good, seemed like a lot of regs at my table. Only played for 2.5 hours but it was a good game.

I really want to get a daily PLO game going at Harrahs NKC (or any other venue available).

Please let me know if you have any interest. $1/2 would be best to get more interest going. If there are even just a few players interested, I will talk to the Harrahs management to see if they will spread it for us short handed.

PLO is a fun game. I think people are scared of the variance, but once they play it and win a couple times, they would prefer it forever to NLHE.

Either DM or reply here if interested. And if you have any ideas on how to get a game going, I am all ears.

Hi everyone. Hoping someone can give me the current situation regarding poker rooms in the area, which one has the most action, the buy ins, would it be worth going for a week etc. Also the best area to stay at for someone that's never been there. I might go there over Christmas and or new Years. Thanks in advance for any info that you folks have to share.

2 poker rooms, about 30 miles apart and separated by a very important imaginary line.

Hollywood is in Kansas City, Kansas which has sports betting but no recreational pot and alcohol ends at 2 am.

Harrah's is in Kansas City, Missouri which has recreational pot but no sports betting and alcohol ends at 3 am.

Both on bravo so you can check games and limits. Hollywood usually has more tables running and is in a more touristy area (lots of shops, hotels and restaurants within 5 minutes drive).
