Was in KC a last month played at harrahs and ameristar. Ameristar room and casino was absolutely beautiful. Too bad only one game was running. Staff at both places were very welcoming and nice. I loved Kc bbq was amazing. People were very friendly everywhere I went. Very clean city as well.

Ended up at Ameristar. Played a bit of 3/6 and then the Wednesday bounty.

Main drawback for me is the overall stale smoking smell that permeates the whole casino. The poker room wasn’t too bad but I could still detect it (I am on the sensitive side). It was more the smell. It didn’t strongly trigger my allergies.

Games were well run. A verbal abuse incident early in the tournament was handled with a light touch but clear there would be a strong response if it continued.

Everything else was fine and I enjoyed the tourney (18th?) and picked up a couple of bounties for a cheap 3 hours plus of entertainment.

Plo is running mon, wed, fri, and sat at harrahs. Mostly 1-2/5, but sometimes 5-10 or higher. Games start at 5:30 with at least one feeder game on the weekends. 2-5 with a rock is on wed @ noon with regular 2-5 running four to five nights a week. Both PLO and 2-5 have no cap on the buy-in, so the games play very deep. Hope this helps.

Any other KC players here?

Hi. Visiting KC in April and would like to play some poker.
It appears that things have changed a lot since the last time I played poker there in 2006.
Best rooms to play 1/2 or 2/5? Rake structures? Do you have to pay for your alcohol? Any other pertinent info would be great

Thanks!

All
--On the Bravo app
--Charge for liquor
--Rake is 4+1, maybe 5+1
--rarely see 2-5 NL

Hollywood
--most NL tables going of the 3 casinos
--play 1-3 and sometimes you'll get a 2-3 game going
--in best part of town, near a bunch of hotels and good restaurants.
--Last call is at 2 am
--straddle from any position but the blinds

Harrah's
--play 1-2 and most likely to have a PLO game going
--Last call is 3 am

Ameristar
--mostly a limit place, will have a couple NL games
--Last call 3am

When did Hollywood move from the Speedway to the Country Club Plaza?

Which has the best action? Is the clientele similar in each casino? Easiest to get to(will mainly be in OP)?

Depends on where you are in OP, the city has a kinda long, narrow shape with the North tip at 47th and the South tip past 200th. But for most parts, especially close to I-635, easiest to get to is probably Hollywood. Take that to I-70 and you’re already there.

If you want to play higher than 1/2NL you’re limited to Hollywood except for Friday night at Harrahs in case that 2/5 game is still going, I haven’t been in a while. Not sure what the “clientele” question means exactly, but Hollywood is the most upscale of the 3 places and a significant percentage of customers look like what you expect when you think of Kansas. If you go shopping at the Legends mall next door, you can mostly tell if a customer lives East or West of it and the casino reflects, too.

Actionwise I think its tie between Harrah's and Hollywood. I play at Hollywood but talk to people who frequent Harrahs and they say its a push.

Clientele is the similar at all casinos. Not that KC is a big tourist destination, but I think they each get their share of them--Harrah's is closer to Downtown KC, but Hollywood is literally at the speedway and a major retail district. Hollywood is the only poker room within an hour of Lawrence (college town) and Topeka (3rd largest metro area in KS).

Easiest from OP is Hollywood. I-70 and I-435.

What a stupid thing to say, how is that bigoted? All he said is that east or west are distinctly different socioeconomic classes, and that those people are noticeably distinguishable.
It's simply a true statement. He did not talk poorly about the lower class by any means.

I'm sure this isnt the right spot to ask but I'm not sure what other forum would answer. I'll be in Branson next week. Is there anywhere close to play NL or PLO?

You might want to look up what “bigoted” means.

Somebody asked about clientele at the casinos and all I said was that Hollywood is the one that also attracts customers from more rural parts of Kansas and that you are often able to tell where a person is from. That’s a simple observation like saying that people in Tonganoxie are more likely to drive a truck than people in the Westport/Plaza area.

I think the closest one might be in Wyandotte/OK which is around a 2 hour drive?

Congratulations, that might be the exact spot in Missouri that's the furthest from a poker room. Downstream Casino in Quapaw, OK is probably the best bet--google says its 2 hours from Branson.

Oh man Tonganoxie. I stayed there for a month or so in the 90s. Hell. That place is hell

Your post was not bigoted at all. I think Hollywood will be my casino of choice. I like upper middle class guys with money to blow and guys who drive trucks. This is called stereotyping incase someone decides that I’m a bigot as well

I HIGHLY doubt you'd be able to tell the difference b/w someone living in topeka compared to joco.

Between Topeka and De Soto or Gardner? Probably not. Between Topeka and Leawood or Prairie Village? Decent chance imo.

You can ask in the Home Games forum. We don't allow discussion of that in this one.

I played at Hollywood today. Nice room, dealers were friendly except this one dealer. Several dealer issues today that went uncorrected. My friend commented that it was like playing in an 1800s saloon in Wyoming
I think I’ll try harrahs next
