HPT tables were on the west side of the second level south of the poker room and it was packed. Going to play their nightly tournament on Wednesday.

You definitely got your wish. Over 600 entrants, $22k up top, and soft spots galore. Very legit for a $230 buy in. Hope you ran better than I did haha (AK<A5 for 22bb). Cash game action was really good all weekend, and Ameristar will def be the place to play through the HPT main event this weekend.

That being said, I can't wait to get back to Hollywood next week. Ameristar's poker room is a dump, half the dealers are incompetent, and they didn't have near enough chips or cash and were sending most people to the cage.

Did play last night and there were eighty-three entrants, but I don't know how many re-entered.

How did I do? How did the wife do?

You'll have to wait for my post in my 2plus2 blog.

Doc, was this for one of the 7:00pm nightly tournaments they're running? You planning on playing any other events?

It was one of the nightly tournaments and unfortunately due to the house move, it will be the only one we'll be playing this time.

But HPT is coming back in August.

Looks like low stakes action moving back towards Harrah's

Thinking about heading up from Wichita to KC this weekend. NASCAR race will be going on Saturday night. With it will come > 100,000 k race fans. Hopefully a lot of them feel like giving away money.

Yep, race weekends are usually a fish fest at Hollywood. Hopefully the stars align and it pours rain all day and night tomorrow

I've always found it to be underwhelming

Yep, it was pretty underwhelming. Mostly regs and one drunk NASCAR fan showed up at 1, played short handed 2/5 with us for a few hours and left about $1.5k later. Can't speak for Friday, but Saturday was very average.

Can anyone update the live poker situation in KC? Best room and day?
Thanks!

Based on observation, I would say it is Hollywood, Ameristar, and Harrahs in terms of numbers. Have no idea in terms of quality or particular day.

Hollywood is the nicest room and has daily 11am tourneys I think. Harrah's has the biggest games on the weekend, a 1/3 that plays like 2/5 or higher in terms of getting the money out. All three are full of fish.

Without question, the biggest game in KC is now at Hollywood. Used to be Harrah's, but moved to Hollywood when they opened. Hollywood will have 2-5 and usually 5-10 on the weekends. They will also have 5-5 PLO and maybe higher PLO. Harrah's is basically dead and should close, but they do have a 1-3 game and an occasional PLO game. Ameristar is in the middle and will often have a 2-5 game on the weekend.

Hollywood has best traffic, nicest room, and most/biggest games. 1/3NL and 5/5PLO basically every night. 2/5NL runs every Wednesday and Friday, most Saturdays too. 20/40 limit holdem on Friday. 2/4 limit holdem on weekends. 5/10NL pretty much never goes anymore since PLO has taken over as the primary "big game" at Hollywood. A lot of the players that would play 2/5NL and higher seem to have caught the PLO bug.

Harrahs 1/3 on Friday night plays big (no cap) as one poster mentioned. Ameristar basically just runs 3/6 limit with a little 1/3 NL sprinkled in on weekends. Ameristar is good when HPT is in town, otherwise not so much.

Will the HPT still bring a lot of the cash game action to Amersitar for the week in August? Anyone know how many played the main event last year? Any good hotels within a 10 minute drive? Thanks.

Yes - most of the cash game action in the area will move to Ameristar that week. It was good during their last stop here back in March.

The main event on that stop got 312 entries for a first place payout of just over $100k. Last year there were over 400 runners for the main. There are plenty of hotels within a ten minute drive, but don't know that part of town well enough to provide reviews.

Hotels? Harrahs.

Seriously, there are a couple of Holiday Inns within ten minutes. Stay away from American Inn on Armour/210.

Might be best because if you do any drinking, all you have to worry about is drinking and walking. You also don't have to pass through Randolph. I have never had a problem, but I understand they closely monitor speeds.

I've got to ask for the day off, but I am going to shoot for playing on the 18th of August in the Seniors tournament or the PLO tournament.

Just looked and even with the promo code its going to be almost $200 a night at Ameristar Fri and Sat night the 21st and 22nd after taxes and fees. Looks like theres a Holiday Inn with good reviews up by Worlds of Fun that would be about $100 a night. According to the map looks like maybe 5 miles from Casino. Going to play cash and try to satty into Main Event.

The Holiday Inn by Worlds of Fun is actually half that distance.

There are several mid priced hotels (Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, etc.) across I-435 from Worlds of Fun. These are about 5 minutes from Ameristar.
