I can see the casinos wanting to bring it back as soon as possible, but have doubts Dewine has them back any time soon. Cases and hospitalizations are down quite a bit from their highs over the past few months, but they are still higher than they were all summer and early fall when it was not allowed to be brought back. Deaths are also closer to their peak numbers than not.

Hopefully they continue to go down though and poker is brought back sooner rather than later.

But we have learned so much more since then and the vaccine is out

Once the most vulnerable are vaccinated no reason not to. Especially as we approach the spring.

Hospitalizations is one of the most important key metrics about the virus

Not so much total cases

I agree with you, just not sure Dewine does. I just don't see him reopening poker rooms until cases and hospitalizations are lower than they were last summer/early fall and I don't believe they will get that low until the general public can get vaccinated, which is looking more and more likely to be late spring/early summer.

It’s hard to say do they even ask him directly or his staff? When was he even asked about poker out of curiosity?

I can just see it sitting on the back burner forever if no one asks or pushes for it.

This is true, and I don't know the answer. Back in the late summer/early fall when I was doing some research into the issue the answer I got from the health department was that the casino's proposal was fine with them and the issue was in the hands of the governor's office. The gaming commission said it was up to the governor's office. I emailed the governor's office through their website and got no response and tweeted at Dewine and got no response. Not sure if he would have seen either of those or if just his staff reviews everything and only passes on what they feel is important.

It entire situation does seem very odd. I think once the curfew goes away maybe that might indirectly help.

So curfew is officially over with, Jack announced that they are immediately going back to 24 hr. operations. How long until the poker room opens?

According to Jack’s Twitter they are saying that they have not gotten any word when they can reopen the poker and they will let everyone know when they do. Considering that the curfew is lifted, every state around us has reopened their poker rooms and the fact that they already have installed barriers on the tables one would think it should be opening any day now.

Agree. With so many people getting vaccinated and hospitalizations and cases down with another vaccine on the way it should be soon.

I wish there were more updates about how they are actively trying to bring poker back like on the website and stuff.

By the way.. I don’t know if anyone in this thread knows any dealers but I get along great with the large majority of them.

I wonder what they are being told during all of this?

I really hope they are demanding to come back especially because unemployment expires in less than a month I believe.

This is what I heard back yesterday from Hard Rock Cincy (not very informative):

Good Afternoon,

At this time, our poker rooms do not have an expected reopening date. We are actively pursuing and collaboratively working with state officials on reopening poker rooms in Ohio. Once the state of Ohio reaches a decision, we will be sure to communicate through our website and social media channels.

Unfortunately the most optimistic of people I know say late March at the earliest. I personally think it won't be before May.

Are they good sources?

In may they should be getting extremely close to getting rid of plexiglass and mask mandates period.

Thank god that loser manager is gone. Hopefully a few of the crappier floor people are gone too. Clean house. Hire quality people.

I would not count on getting rid of the plexi glass anytime soon. In fact, within the last month they have actually added a lot more plexi glass in the casino. They just added glass to table games where there wasn’t any before and between every slot. As a non expert without a science background I believe it will be 2022 before things are wide open again.

I was just guessing. I think if I had to guess the summer should be relatively back to normal and once everyone who wants a vaccine can get a vaccine that should help.

You don’t think so?

Many many experts think so.

Here’s a good resource IMO

I doubt the mask mandate will go away for another 12 months. All the new variants of COVID hitting and being easier to transmit.

I'll just say what I have said earlier, as much as we want poker rooms to reopen, the likelihood of it happening in the next 60 days I would think is rather low. Casinos were open 24/7 all last summer and fall with lower infection rates and they were never opened. Unfortunately we still have some time to go. Would welcome being wrong though.

Hey all:

Detroit has 2 out of 3 of poker rooms re-opened. They have been open for about a month.

I am surprised that Michigan/Detroit has it's rooms opened sooner than Ohio does.

Hopefully Ohio will be able to get it's rooms opened soon.

Michigan is always ahead of Ohio. Took Ohio like 15 years to get casinos after MI had commercial casinos. MI now has sports betting and I believe online sports betting and online poker. Ohio is still mulling that over and not looking like anytime soon.

Forget other states for a minute...it is utterly ridiculous that the private poker clubs IN OHIO have been allowed to be open for 8+ months but the poker rooms in Ohio casinos can’t be open. Are we more likely to get Covid in the public rooms vs private clubs? Of course not. And I’d argue the casinos will be far more effective with sanitizing measures than these private clubs, having played in more than one of them.
