I would personally prefer they give away more 12k main event packages on a regular basis.

Winning 550 is nice but going to the main event is a life experience for most people that will never be forgotten. The high card day was super hype and everyone crowded around the tables in excitement. If they gave away one package a week or so it would also make it more likely that local players are the ones getting the packages. When they did the 5 high cards in one day the room was packed with people just visiting for the tournament series, so people that have never contributed to the promotional fund ended up winning the 12k package.

The promotions could be better, but I think they are onto something with the main event giveaways.

Any word on the $500 Main Event satellite returning this year? That event was well-run last year, and had nearly 400 runners. (A little biased since I got a seat )

I talked to a floor guy who said they were planning on doing it around the same time as last year. Nothing is set yet though.

Anyone here play in the 6/12 O8 game? Just wondering what the action is for the game.

I normally play every week. The game usually starts around 11:30-12:30, fills up and then the players usually don't leave quickly. Around half of the players starting the main table will be there until midnight. A second must move table has a better than 50/50 chance of getting started after 5 pm.

A $60 (including rake) scooped pot makes it a $10-$20 kill. Banter is lively (which is one of the reasons I play), everyone knows each other, but new players are definitely welcomed and encouraged. A couple of the old timers know 75% of the players in the room so sometimes it becomes a reunion for them. Overall we have a lot of fun. A lot of players will travel from Dayton and Columbus to play the game.

Some items to note: Lots of table talk, mainly lying, which is permitted. Also there are some players who have heads up check down agreements which is odd looking at first, but not collusion. They do it every time no matter what hands they have.

Action I would say is more passive than aggressive especially preflop, more loose than tight, but nothing crazy. Very rare to see a re-raise.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll keep my eye on the board. I'll be there wearing something Reds since I'm going to the game later, otherwise I'm one of the midnight guys.

How much do most people buy in with? The times I have walked by the table I see a crapload of chips in front of everyone. I know there $2 chips, but sure does look like a lot lol.

Oh yeah, the chips are a joke, compliments of the Horseshoe management. I buy in for $300, most buy in for $200-$400. Some buy in for $600. We always get some people with big eyes walking by because they look like $100 chips.

Thanks. What days does it normally run. I played a couple of the 08 daily tourneys hollywood had. So probably played with a few of the regs.

Only on Fridays. Sometimes Saturdays will have a 3-6 Omaha 8 but I don't know much about that game; I heard it has pretty good action but I haven't played it.

I'll be down here in mid july for a concert/mlb all star game. What is there to do within walking distance/short cab/subway or whatever from the casino? And good cheap food options? Any good local bars to check out? Hopefully, the games will be good/good variety the weekend after the all star game. I'm usually a mid/high stakes limit player. I like to mix it up with most of the horse games.

Also, I'm getting comped is there a certain room type I should ask for? How are the rooms? The concert is at the casino so will pretty much 100% be staying at the property. Anything else I forgot to ask?

There are no rooms. They partner with several local hotels. I would ask your host what is available asap as it is going to be tight with the all star game.

V, The only high stakes limit games I'm aware of in the midwest are at Horseshoe Hammond, at least a five hour drive from Cincy. Here you won't see anything but 3-6 HE limit and 6-12 O8 with a half kill (Fridays only as discussed in recent previous posts) unless the visitors get a higher limit game going. There is a 30-60 7 stud game at HSI on Fridays and Saturdays, thinking it's about an hour and 45 minute drive, depending on the traffic. Not sure if the 20-40 08 game at Tropicana(?) the old Aztar is still going in Evansville, which would be around a 3 hour drive.

No subway here, but cabs are generally around the casino area and of course the ballpark. If your going to have a car and are diamond, you will be able to valet for free even during the AllStar Game,.Normally platinum can valet free too, but with an event like that, I would not be suprised to see valet diamond/7start only most likey. Garage is free but honestly if you can, I would just park or valet the night before the game as they run free shuttles back to the hotels most of the day and night. Depending on what hotel your at, you could walk too if you really wanted to, but the shuttle is pretty conveneint.

As far as things to do, there is Newport on The Levee and Hofbrauhaus on the Kentucky side, Toby Keith's I Love This Bar, Holy Grail(local sportsbar), Morlein Lager House(local brew and fairly new restaurant), and Ruth Chris essentially adjacent or easy walk from the ballpark. There are a number of restaurants and bars just north and north west of the casino in the Over The Rhine neighborhood. Formerly a high crime area, but it it has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years or so and is generally considered safe(IIRC your from the Baltimore area, so should not be a big deal if your comfortable in that city. Over The Rhine is pretty walkable, and has some good choices to eat and drink. Too many to list, but I have provided a link to Yelp's page, Newport on The Levee and Hofbrauhaus. I recommend The Eagle for classic american food.

And of course, have fun!

Wow! Thanks for the recommendations guys! I won't really be there to play much. I would def play the 6/12 o8 if it runs though. It's more to see the all star game and Steve Miller Band for the wife.

I am diamond so valet sounds nice. I'm flying in from Baltimore (good memory!) and wasn't really planning on renting a car, should I re-think that?

Also, if I had a choice what partner hotel is the nicest and/or most convenient to the stadium/casino?

Edit...it just dawned on me that you guys probably don't stay in too many hotels where you live lol.

I would consider renting a car to at least get to the casino. You may not need it much once your there, but it is 15 miles airport(it is in NKY..dont ask lol) to casino and traffic and that would cost a fair amount in cab fare.

As far as a hotel, if your comped I would definetly stay in the 21C museum hotel as it is no more than 2 years and is unique and very nice. Most all of the hotels are less than two miles from the casino though as is this one.

For the concert, since your going to valet(thats where you get the shuttle bus to the hotels too), when you enter, just make a left and stay along the wall past the restaurants and then exit out the main entrance and the concert area is to your left. It is general admission so may wanna get there pretty early but there is of course a seperate line for diamond.

Oh and some more eating choices since your wife will be with you. Mortons is on 4th Street downtown and close to the casino, and Jeff Rubys Steakhouse is downtown nearby too and his famous Precinct Steakhouse is about 5 miles east of the ballpark. It is considered one of the best steakhouses in the country. And lest I forget, the Montgomery Inn Boathouse is just about a mile east of the ballpark as well and sits on the river. I am just throwing these out there, but if there is a particular kind of place you guys are interested in, just ask.

Edit...It's only 1.3 miles to the, ballpark from the casino, little further film the hotel so I would walk ...easier than a cab or driving.

And try some Graeters ice cream, local favorite if you get the chance..It's awesome!

And if you're going to go to a steakhouse it must be Jeff Ruby's or the Precinct (also a Jeff Ruby restaurant).
