If you're coming strictly for the tournament and nothing else, I can't see how. You're talking about 3 to 4 hours in driving time and at least $25 in gas for a standard $100 or $200 daily tournament you can find in most local casinos or card rooms. I'm sure they're nice tournaments and the main event seat is cool and all but I just don't see the value there. On the other hand, if you're looking for an excuse to take a road trip and want to check out a new place and maybe play some cash if you bust out early, then sure, come check it out.

I predicted this would happen and I'll tell you exactly why it did. Sunday morning, some guy woke up and thought to himself "Hey! I have a great idea. This is the first week for tournaments at the Horseshoe. Everybody will be over there playing, but Hollywood still has a 10k guarantee! I'll go there instead and cash in on what's sure to be a massive overlay. Brilliant!"

The problem is that 100 other people had the exact same brilliant idea so there was no overlay and they easily hit the guarantee and then some. The same thing happened every time it snowed on either of the 10k guarantee days at Hollywood. Everyone assumed everyone else would stay home and the tournaments would actually get more players than usual despite the bad weather.

What the Horseshoe needs to do is slap a 15k guarantee on their Sunday tourney. I don't think the buy-in is the issue here at all; most people who can afford the $150 can scrape together an extra $60 I would imagine.

Also, does anyone know how many people played the tournament on Sunday?
I'd say the skill level was so-so. I had sicem55 (I think) at my first table. There were a few others who had a clue. The biggest weakness for most of the players is their short stack play. And this tourney is basically short stack play at about 1.5 hr point on.

The structure plays like the TurboSNG-multis on Stars. Only problem is you can only play one/day instead of 100. I miss Stars

Yup, with 81 players yesterday you are adding roughly $20/player to the prize pool. The rake is 30 so you are playing a 100+10 tourney which is not bad.

I have a few questions:

1. Have they released an event schedule for the WSOPC events in September?
2. Any idea when satellites will start for the WSOPC?
3. For the Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday tourneys, do they use a 10% payout structure?

They have not released a schedule for September yet but you can look at past schedules most of them are pretty similar

They payout roughly 10% in all their tournaments

This is exactly correct. Most people have no clue how to play short stacked in these, which I believe is on of my biggest strengths.

You shoulda said what's up I started at table 16 yesterday in the 6 seat

Tom you are on the money as usual, but with no guarantee at Horseshoe, might as well save $60, structures are about the same at both venues. The prize pools were very similar for each tournament on Sunday, not counting counting the added seat.

Ok, I was seat 4. I may play a couple tourneys a week for the next 2 months. Probably Thursday for my next one.

Ladies and Gents,

Please remember that we have a BBV forum for bad beats, MTT strategy threads for hand histories, and the low-content thread in B&M and various threads in the Regional Communities subforum for general chatter/chat.

Thank you.

Wednesdays and Fridays are still the big days, you'll have one or two 5/10's and two or three smaller games (1/2 or 5/5) usually. Saturdays there's always at least one 1/2, and often a second 1/2 or a 5/5. The next best days are Monday and Thursday, there's almost always a 1/2; sometimes we'll get a 5/10 off Monday. Sunday and Tuesday are the worst days for PLO, I'd say it's 50/50 whether a game gets off on those days.

As you correctly assumed, all the regular PLO players from Hollywood have moved over here. The 5/10 is mostly populated by the same people who played the big game at Hollywood although we will get random players from time to time. There are more new faces and random players in the 5/5 and 1/2, although this can vary from day to day. The other day I was playing 1/2 PLO and there were six people at the table I had never seen before. That never happened at Hollywood.
thanks for the update! eXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR...

Some people were asking if this was worth traveling for:

There were 89 players yesterday, which is good for a weekday tournament. However, the levels are brutal. After a couple hours into the tournament the average chip stack was less than 15 BB. At about the 1k-2k blind level everyone started busting rather quickly, but there was no poker to be played; it was all-in or fold based on stack sizes. I busted in 13th and I didn't see anyone playing 'real' poker past the 1k-2k level.

If you are wanting to drive down I may recommend the $210 tournaments as you have more starting chips and longer levels. It's hard to use skill to your advantage late in these tournaments unless you have a large chip stack or you know the proper time to push all-in on a short stack.

Good luck!

Small buy in, quick levels, short stacks, are the same just about everywhere. Just the nature of these kind of tournaments. About the only differences are in the ambiance of the room and the quality of the dealers, floor and TDs! I believe Horseshoes has these elements covered very well!
