I have seen people attempt the NL->PLO transition and fail miserably but most of them weren't very good hold'em players to begin with. If you're a solid wining LHE player I don't think you'll have too much of a problem picking up O8.
Lol @ not very steep learning curve. You've been playing Omaha for a while, I think you're forgetting what that transition is like. I suppose if you're a winning 6/12 LHE player you'll have a good understanding of betting patterns and how to get value, but getting Omaha hi reads down is hard enough. Throw in figuring out your lows...

You can do it, but be prepared to drop your first few buy-ins quick.

Qc-8c in late, flop k-10-6 two clubs, I bet and called by one, turn brings jack for open and flush draw. I lead out and again called. River king of clubs and I ship it and he calls with AK. Easy game right?

Top 2 vs bottom set and the set vs flush draw. Amazing how quickly it turns. Poker gods are a fickle bunch.

It was not from someone who works at HW.

Non poker question.

I thought I heard a radio commercial for some sort of $500 loss rebate on slots.

I can't find this on the Cincy Horseshoe website.

It looks like other properties have some rebate programs when first signing up for a loyalty card, but my internet search-fu has failed me.

Anyone have details on this?

I heard this too and also failed at finding anything about it online. I'm not a slots player myself but my parents are. Apparently the deal is the Horseshoe will refund up to the first $500 of your losses on slots. My parents went to the casino last month, lost $125, and this week they got a mailer from the Horseshoe with coupons totalling $125 in free slot play. They said it's not a single coupon though, it's three seperate coupons of 40, 40, and 45. Each is good for a different period of time so they'd have to go back three separate times if they wanted to use the full amount.

It's their Play 500 Promo. You have to be a new TR card signup to get it. I believe on the first day you get your card, they will match your slot losses up to $500. According to the information I looked at, they will send you 4 coupons good for 1/4 each of your losses a month later (Tom said 3, but maybe those losses were small enough that they only sent 3?). They are only valid for 1 week each (each is good for 1 week and they are in consecutive weeks) and you have to go back and exchange that coupon for cash. So if someone is a new player regardless of whether they are a slot player and plans on being back there once a week a month later, it's worth it to try to either "go big or go home." Basically, I'd stick $500 into a $100/spin slot machine and if I lost I would collect my $125/week next month. Look on their Facebook page, scroll down a while, then you'll see a $500 promo picture with details below it and people commenting on how they got screwed because they already signed up for a card and since they're entitled that Horseshoe should offer them the same deal (which is silly and not gonna happen).

I did a similar thing at Belterra, except theirs was 2 coupons and it was good for table games too. I ran my $500 up to $1800 playing blackjack, then lost $800 and decided that I didn't want to ever go back to that disgusting smoke filled dive that I could barely breath in so I walked out up $1000 (my intent was to run it up to $3k or more, or lose my $500).

Thanks. Odd that it isn't on their casino webpage.

The Facebook page doesn't really give details either! Just says "See Total Rewards for complete details." Bah.

I do see the complaint comments about the people who already signed up. They do not seem to understand the purpose of such a promotion.

The comments of people who got the promotion seem to be saying they are sending out vouchers for slot play.

Other casinos seem to have placed restrictions on what machines you can play as well. I wonder if Cincy does so as well. (Now that I look, I see that you started the 2+2 thread on Belterra.)

Another promo they have going on, is that they will match your VIP tier level from another casino, just show them your current valid card and they will give you a card of equal level (even if you already have a Total Rewards card). We took a friend of mine down yesterday, who is a "Producer" at Hollywood, and they gave him a Diamond card.

Yeah, I've earned Diamond Tier 2 in the 9 or 10 weeks that Horseshoe Cincy has been open. Hollywood Columbus refused to match (floor guy said maybe but Host said no), Rising Star flat out refused by policy, a Belterra myChoice rewards girl said they might but the hosts were off duty for the night when I asked (like 4 am), and thankfully Hollywood Lawrenceburg was willing to match (and make it good to use at Columbus too). I mainly play at Hollywood Lawrenceburg and Horseshoe Cincy anyways, so that's good that those two matched.

Edit: This is reverse of what you're saying. Horseshoe is willing to match any card, from what I understand.

Yeah, I did a lot of research on the internet about these promos and I got a lot of details from Belterra before going down there. IMO it's definitely worth it if you're going to be there and you'll definitely get your money back, but if you're like me and would have to drive 2 hours to Belterra twice just to get $250 back each time and then not play there since it's disgusting, it wasn't really worth it. I might, however, let my card expire in 5 more months and do it again (if I'm able to and they still have it... their website says "all new or reactivated mychoice members"). The chance of a huge score outweighs the extra 2 hours of driving and then going to Hollywood or Horseshoe (two consecutive weekends).

Here's the reply from them on Facebook in regards to query for details. Not a ton of help.

"Here are details about the "Play $500 on Us" promotion:
Only new guests are eligible for this promotion

Guests will be reimbursed based on their losses up to $500 on Slot Play only

Guests must have a minimum loss of $50 to be eligible

Losses are based on slot play during the day the guest signs up for Total Rewards"

What is the turn-around time for Casino Credit? (I.e. can I come for the first time tonight and use the Casino Credit same day?)

If not, what sort of check cashing fees will I see (and will they wave it at a certain amount)?

Per Horseshoe Cincinnati website.....No clear answer on casino credit but $5 to cash a check....Its $3 at Walmart or Kroger if that helps you at all but none of them real close to the casino.

Horseshoe Cincinnati - Casino Credit
Casino credit gives you the ability to obtain funds from your checking account while at a gaming table or at the cage for slot use. Your credit line at other Caesars Entertainment casinos is not transferable and requires the complete application process to receive approval. The casino credit applications will be accepted at the cashiers cage, the table games pits and casino marketing offices

Horseshoe Cincinnati - Check Cashing/ATMs
Personal Check cashing is available at the Cashiers Cage for a $5 fee. Seven Star and Diamond guests will receive complimentary check cashing. We are unable to accept payroll, government or third party checks. For your convenience, ATMs are located throughout the casino floor. We will also be waiving fees for Certegy transactions over $500.

After a one time cancelled check, they will then allow electronically withdrawal from bank account with ID and rewards card. No fee for $500 or more. Line was short at about 4 PM on Saturday.

There were two O8 tables going today. Second table opened up at between 4 and 5 PM. Must move. The second table was good. Regularly 5+ to the flop. The occasional raise didn't thin the preflop field. Table were enjoying themselves. Nobody wanted to move to the main game.

The "main game" was filled with the same regs who played at Hollywood. At one point in time, 6 of the spots were filled with people who had check-down agreements with each other. There was actually open negotiation about who was checking down with whom. Pretty offputting, actually. One of the other non-regs was clearly upset about it.

The allegedly blue $2 chips are distressingly close to being black. Perhaps it isn't a big deal, but it seems like a potential for angles in any game where both denominations are allowed.

I didn't get a chance to try this out. When I signed up for a TR card, they provided me with a replacement instead of a new card. They couldn't tell me where I'd signed up for a card before, only that I was in the system. Thus no slot machines for me.
