Does anyone know what happened to Clive Heyn, aka Clivestraddle? Long before the days of the poker clubs, this fellow was running a couple of underground games - one out of his house, as well as another location in southeast. My ass was 19 years old (9 years ago) and barely getting into games outside of my home game when I stumbled upon Clive's room on meetup or some similar app. He was an underground game runner, but most notably an old, eccentric man who always had a crazy a story to tell. I remember he touted himself as an MIT grad and former multimillionaire business owner. His Facebook is updated as of late 2022 asking about Doge and BTC. He used to make the occasional appearance in a southeast room here and there. I'm not over there as much anymore, but no one I've spoke with has seen him in awhile. Hoping to hear he's alright.

Congrats to longtime Houston poker regular "Fireman" Scott Dulaney on picking up his first WSOP Bracelet! He took down the $600 PLO/NLHE yesterday evening for a $195K score.

He used to vlog a few years back, wonder if he's gonna start up again now?

So freaking sick. Scott and Will have been longtime buds if I'm not mistaken. So cool to see two friends get two bracelets in the same summer, not to mention representing Houston poker!

As of today, Legends is moving from membership format to taking rake. $7 max. This is replacing their current hourly membership/jackpot rake format, $7/hr + $2 whack. Six months ago I would have been concerned that the most popular room in the city is moving to full on illegal rake structure, but at this point I'm convinced that law enforcement have bigger fish to fry and don't give a damn.

They vlogged last summer and did about 90 percent of the WSOP before quitting. Wills play in his vlogs is spewy.

Last year they were part of a stable of players put up by Mattress Mack to play the WSOP. There was some falling out this year and he didn't back them again, so of course they go and win bracelets lol.

Fireman Scott used to vlog a few years back and he was pretty spewy and seemed to lack a fundamental understanding of PLO, he just knew aggression. I think he had won a BBJ which pretty much gave him the influx of cash to start playing crazy aggro

Yeah I enjoyed his vlogs as well.

You're right. He would just pick a hand and commit to it through pure aggression.

Are there any rooms left in Houston trying to operate behind the thin veil of legality?

The issue will always be just when does somebody decide to care.

What happens to people's time balance, they get it back in cash?

Yep. They are paying out for unused time.

On the one hand, boo. The time structure was solid, offered more legal protection, etc.

On the other hand, yay in it being less then the totally outrageous $11 over at Elite. $7 is comparable with Vegas, still, maybe, beatable imo.

Well, today is the Legends' big promo tourney, the $50K GTD. For every 25 hrs you played for the past few weeks, you earned an entry/rebuy. Unfortunately, they don't have any power or A/C.

I think $7 rake is incredibly beatable in these games. More incentive to nit up as well

you do realize by them changing to a rake structure there is an additional $100/hr coming off the table per hour?

8 players X $9/hr = $72

$2 jackpot drop x 35 hands per hour = $70

$7 drop x 35= $245 - $142 = an additional $100/hr coming off the table..

heres some real conservative math.

average additional $75/hr coming off
and theres 5 games running for 12hrs per day

thats an extra 4.5k to legends everyday or 135k per month..

im falling alseep so my mental math might be bad lol

So how's that Champions Club place going? They sunk like $12 million into renovating a hotel and it looks beautiful, but doesn't seem to get much traffic?

Here is what I would estimate. Tables are 9 handed and they get more than 5 games running per day. They were also charging $12 an hour for time.

9 players x 12 = $108

$2 jackpot drop x 30 hands per hour (going to say 30 rather than 35) - $60

$168 is what they made before per hour per table.

Now:

$7 x 30 hands = $210

$210 - $168 = $42 more per table per hour is what I would estimate. Note they also get the same $7 per table when less than 9 players which it often is in the mornings and late at night.

I would estimate 10 tables going all day so probably $420 x 24 = $10,080 a day more and $302K more per month. Right now they have 9 tables going at 1:00 on a Wednesday. They run like 15 during peak times and less in the morning and late at night so I think 10 avg is probably close for the full day.

The other issue is all that money coming off the table really affects the good players bottom lines overall.

No traction whatsoever. I spoke to a guy in Vegas that told me he played in a PLO game there and he thought it was going twice a week. I called and talked to the manager when I got back and he said they had a game a couple times but nothing regular. The best he could offer is 1/3 NL with 1 hand of PLO each round. I said I wasn't interested in playing any NL Holdem but would be interested if they ever get any straight PLO. He said right now none of those games running. Didn't ask for my name or info to put on a list or for any other info. Didn't even say come check the place out. This basically told me the management are idiots and the place will never make it.

Crazy that they have such a beautiful property and spent boatloads and are letting it flounder like that.
