I know a lot of people prefer real chips and cards, but I always felt the PokerPro tables were more friendly to new players, and often had more casual players. I just liked the atmosphere a lot more at those tables when they had them (though admittedly they were smokey as heck due to location).

I imagine post-COVID, they would be easier to clean, wouldn't have lots of people touching the same chips/cards/etc, no dealers moving between tables, etc. I'd welcome them back if the alternative is no or significantly reduced poker.

Ripoff joint Horseshoe Hammond will re-open soon with no poker room at this time. ..."Unused portions of casino will be used for slots expansion". That could mean poker players may have opportunity to play slots in what was the poker room. That would be great. Joint still holding all the "CAPPED bad beat" cash, in what may be more than a $million in the poker promotional fund. Would take an "act of congress" to find out how much is in that promotional fund.

Well, Magoo, you answered my question about poker at Shoe. Interesting quote about slots in unused areas. I'd be surprised if we see poker before the end of the year. Frankly, that's okay with me. And when it does return I predict a much smaller room. We shall see.

Consumer demand. Interesting choice of words. Well, my experience at the Shoe was fewer folks playing poker. Will say it again. A much smaller room is on the way.

Eldorado has to sell three Indiana casinos as part of its merger with Caesars. Hammond might be one of them.

It means good riddance to those to whom it applies, who had become so comfortable because of seniority in poker room, a player dared not do so little as request TV DRAMA channel be changed to ESPN or other sports TV channel. Even Mrs Porky Pig could lose weight, working graveyard shift, but NOT have a sourly attitude. Bear in mind, Horseshoe Hammond poker room BAD BEAT (the smaller one), IS NOT $30K. It is supposed to be $40K. Players contributed for the week prior to the joint being shut by state. The joint took opportunity upon closing not to update Bravo for the past four months. Hab a naz dey!

1) Obv any associated rewards could/would/should be absorbed into the new owner's rewards system.

2) The new owner's attitude towards poker would become the deciding factor as to when/if poker returns to Hammond, IN or any other midwest public poker room.

3) Casino sales take a long time typically, especially multi-property deals. It's taking forever for 'Quicken Loans' guy to sell off his casinos (The Jack, Greektown, others) so he can try and buy the Tigers.

4) One would assume that new management would at least take the time to evaluate staff before too long after taking over.

5) One would also assume that Indiana Gaming would make sure that any promo funds are properly protected during any transfer. There have been issues with promos and Gaming at Hammond before. But let's get poker back and then worry about the minute chance that there's funds missing from a jackpot that we're a long shot to win.

In short ... There's plenty of time to 'protect' the promo funds AND there's no way of knowing 'what this means' until a new owner is found. GL

Thought everyone might like to know what life is like at the Horseshoe right now. I last played live poker at the Shoe March 10. As I often do, I left without cashing in my chips. So, today I decided it was safe enough to make the quick drive over and cash in. The Covid protocols where reasonable and enforced. There was a short line to get into the casino, but nothing major. What was sad was what I saw in the poker room: the tables are gone and slots machines ruled as far as the eye could see. It makes me wonder about the future.

Of course, by now everyone has heard that Caesars Entertainment must sell Indiana properties. We have no way of knowing which venues those will be, but it does make one wonder about the future of poker at Hammond Horseshoe. My own experience at the Shoe, my main room as I live in Chicago, was that poker numbers were already going down before Covid. With that in mind and the continuing saga of Covid, I doubt there is any reason for the room to reopen before the end of the year at the earliest, which is sad because IMO it is the best room in the Midwest.

At that point, the owners, whoever, they might be, will most likely look over the money line and see what is making money and what isn't. If the slots prove successfully it's probably bye-bye poker room. . .or one that's a good deal smaller.

I hate to think my choices for poker in the next year are going to be a small room at Harrahs in Joliet or an hour and half ride to Milwaukee.

Horseshoe Hammond Indiana will be sold by year's end. That is a fact, not rumor. It is been confirmed. It will no longer be under Caesar's Entertainment. That's OK. Let's see what happens. May be better times ahead.

One thing they will be looking at is how they expect to be impacted by Hard Rock Northern Indiana opening up. Even if it doesn't have a poker room, there will still be an effect.

So how will this impact people who have their entire bankroll in Horseshoe chips?

Is there any worry that the new owners will not honor Horseshoe Hammond chips in the future? Has anyone ever had experience with this?

There is a huge difference between a casino 'closing' and changing owners. It can depend on what the new owner will do with the name and other language in the sale document.

I can't imagine that there wouldn't be a grace period to exchange/cash out chips. But depending on the amount you are talking about I might consider taking some trips to the casino and cashing out 'reasonable' amounts ... provided table games are open.

I have known of 2 individuals that made appointments to cash out chips when they left the area at two other casinos so I'm not sure how Hammond would handle that type of a request. GL

A few weeks ago I made a quick drive to Horseshoe to cash in some chips. I went straight to the cage and cashed out. It didn't take more than a few minutes. The amount wasn't huge, but with poker dead for the rest of this year at least I figured it was the smart move. FYI, I did this before I knew of the pending sale. I can't imagine a sale will make a difference, at least in the short term. But if one has chips (no matter the amount) it's probably a good idea to cash them in now.

Oh man I'm gonna miss that place. It was full of mystery and excitement when I first stepped in those doors almost 10 years ago. I still remember the thrill when I jammed KK and won a big pot for the first time in a live cash game on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Covid-19 is hammering Horseshoe Hammond location, Lake County Indiana. Giving out masks at entrance is ludicrous, because people take them off once inside and security ignores.

When I was there a few weeks back to cash in chips things were under control. If security has decided to let things go. . .well, I guess Horseshoe wants to cut its throat. Can anything be more stupid?

Where is everyone playing, if you're playing live? charity games? home games? Or is everyone just playing on apps? I can't stand playing on my phone.

Hello, all. Does anyone have any news on Horseshoe poker? I just saw a post about Potawatomi that stated that poker room is closed probably for the next six months, possibly a year. Oh, and another 1500 folks lost their jobs. I haven't heard a word about Shoe. All I know is that the poker room is full of slots and the casino is on the selling block. Maybe someone out there is in the know. Thanks.

In less than a year, the STATE of Indiana handled ONE BILLION DOLLARS in SPORTS BETS. Not much incentive for an owner to re-open a labor intensive poker operation that was very much IN DECLINE when it closed in March, now that they have a huge Sports Betting operation.
