How many runners do some of these daily tourneys get? Specifically the evening ones.

Now that I'm settled into my place I figured I'll make a visit or two this week to get a lay of the land.

So they changed the straddle in the 1/2 plo game from 5 to 10 this past weekend, which is something.

I saw this as well and am worried about what effect this could have on the long term health of the game. I think it will also have a negative effect on the action in the game and may cause people to play tighter.

I think the answer to your first concern is that it will absolutely have a negative effect on the game and honestly I too am worried about the ability of the bad regs and recs to survive this game.

As to your second concern, I honestly dont know. Until players start going broke broke I honestly think it will have the opposite effect because nobody adjusts. People will still call the straddle because nobody wants to fold, and the short stacks are still going to buy in for $100 because it's still 1/2, and they're still gonna send it in because that's what they do.

I'm curious whether or not this causes more or less straddling in the average game. Short stacks have a way bigger advantage in doing so.

I'm pissed about the straddle change too.

I think the straddle change makes sense since the game is 1/2/5 and not 1/2 ... Although I think it is bad for the game, because now it plays much bigger (they have 5/5 5/10 running to cater those player, no need to make the smaller game bigger).

Anyone heading to the shoe tonight?

Probably will jump into the tourney and fire a bullet or two and then hit cash. Will be in a green Michigan State hat if anyone wants to say hi.

Just got home. Placed 10th/93 in the daily. Paid 12 places, 10th was good for $201.

Sat down at a 1/2 table for 2 hours and got up +442.

I'm sure sitting down with $300 and being told max BI is only $200 gave me a good table image.

I've got a meeting at 8:30am so off to bed.

31 Tables running at the moment.

Busy night. I guess they don't call it Good Friday for nothing.

There is 1/2/5 PLO running daily at Gun Lake. It usually runs from 11 AM to 3-4 AM. They have had only 2-3 days since they opened in Sept without PLO running.

Their straddle rules are 4x for PLO and 5x for NL. You can straddle both UTG and B. This player pool doesn't really straddle too much but it's nice to have it there when the game gets bogged down into a limpfest. 1/2/5 has 100-500 BI (2/5 is 300-1500 BI) with very few Players buying in for less than 200.

I don't think the 'threat' of a straddle ruins the game but I can see where within a much bigger player pool that Bingo might be more rampant from the short stacks, but that's today's PLO. The ability to spice up a single table game that's now pretty deep without changing the stakes can keep Players off of lock down while still allowing the new Players to come in cheap ... sounds good to me. Usually a couple stud games, 3ish badugi games, limit Omaha high, 2-7 and/or A-5 triple draw. Changes every week.

I'll be in Chicago for 4 days in May. Should I play exclusively at Hammond or is it worth checking out Grand Victoria for 1 night? I like that their 2-5 game is a $1k max buy in but other than that is there anything drawing players there?

Probably no reason to, unless you are staying much closer to it than to Hammond and want to check out the local casino for a night.
It's on a boat, has higher rake, and no electronics allowed while sitting at poker table.

( accurate as of a year and a half ago anyway, last time I went to elgin)

It’s Friday night. In The High Limit Poker Room, there is a 5/10 NL and a mixed game. Why wouldn’t the two 10/20 NL games be in there?

It would be extremely solid if The Horseshoe gets $20 chips to be played in the 10/20 NL game.

The mixed game is 50/100 and always plays in the high limit room. As for why a 5/10 game was there instead of a 10/20, my guest guess is the 5/10 started first but can’t say for sure. I’m 2000 miles away at the moment.

Dear Manager In Charge - Can we get $20 chips for 10/20 NL? If so, I will do great revenues at The Horseshoe!

Honest question from someone who has never played 10/20nl: is there a big difference between having $20 and $25 chips? You still have to have red chips on the table either way, but you can have just a few and mostly bet in increments of $25. Does the Shoe have $10 chips? I've never been a fan of them either.

There is a huge difference between $20 and $25 chips. $20 chips are the true sign of higher stakes games. Yes, The Horseshoe has $10 chips. The $20 chip is common in $10/$20 NL games at The Bellagio and I believe The Wynn has $20 chips. The introduction of the $20 chip at The Horseshoe would put the place in a category of its own comparable with large Vegas poker rooms.

No there isn't. It's silly to have $20 chips.... Especially sillier since they have $10 chips, which I'm also not a fan of.
