I'm an old gypsy cab driver from the Bronx (and retired Chicago cab driver) and I would not feel comfortable in Chinatown at 3am -- or anyplace else in Chi-town at 3am except maybe at a heavy cross street bus stop.

Its probably not racist but its quite ignorant to randomly make facts up. What lead you to the conclusion that Chinatown is a high crime rate area? Due to it being a popular tourist attraction, the city keeps a close watch on the crime rate and has an active police presence in the area. I believe the "killing" you referred to was a robbery attempt gone wrong where 2 black males followed 2 Chinese males onto a dark side street after exiting a casino shuttle. One of the victims died from head trauma after being violently horse collared and hitting the back of his head on the pavement.

In regards to taking the shuttle overall, you just need to be aware of your surroundings and try to look sad when you leave just in case there are lurkers. I don't take the shuttle but I know many people do - including a few regs.
