Hey. There doesn't seem to be an open, constructive thread about the Shoe.

I play there about 20 hrs/ week, always in 5-10 NLHE. Anyone else play that game? Wanna talk about some players?

I really like the service that I get there. If you play upstairs, you get to eat, which is cool, and they have taken some of the best staff from the surrounding casinos.

What do you think?

Hey, if you play there regularly, would you be so kind as to give me some information on the rake? (I'm going to be moving soon to the South Bend area.) I'm most curious about the limit games (up to 15-30), and the 1-3
(1-2?) and 2-5 blind no limit games. Do they take the rake all at once, or is it like a dollar at 10, another dollar at 20, etc? Is it no flop, no drop? And what's the maximum?

I would greatly appreciate some information on this. It sometimes seems so hard to get this info, and the casino doesn't want to tell you this stuff over the phone.

5-10 NL and higher are time raked with each person paying $8 a half hour for 5-10 nl.

All the other games are raked 10% up to $5

The 3-6, 6-12, 10-20 and 20-40 limit games go every day. 6-12 sometimes on a slower day during the week does not go. Wednesday's is the best day for limit action.

When you have time, could you give us a random update of how many tables are going on a given weekday and weekend?

We haven't had one of those in a while


Also, are the structures for the WSOP-C events posted anywhere? I know one was posted a while ago in one of the variou threads on the subject, but I can't seem to find anything that has been declared as THE structure that will be used for the events and the satellites.

Specifically, I'm wondering about the $345 event and the nightly $235/$120turbo.

I believe I read in another thread that the $345 had 6,000 starting chips and 40 minute levels? When will this information be officialy known/posted to the website?

I have played a few sessions of 5-10 and the action has been pretty good so far. I went to play on saturday night, but instead played PLO in the upstairs section. I had the fruit plate and beef sandwich, what is your preference on the menu? Any players to look out for that make it a good game? Btw, there was a woman there on saturday who I had seen at majestic sitting with about 10K at 5-10? Do you know her and is she any good?

Hiya. how often do you play? Did you play at Resorts. Having played there, i knew everyone, but now the population has gotten a little more diluted, but you'll know the good players like Joel Casper, Baker, Rocky, Dan, etc....

What girl is this? Did you catch her name? What did she look like? If she plays regularly, I know her...

As I said in my previous posts I am more of a morning and day person but I recently made my first night trip to the Shoe and here is a report. As I arrived around 5pm Monday Mike the brush was at the desk and I got a seat within minutes in the 1/2nl game as I had called ahead and it looked like a relatively slow night. At least I hope it was a slow night because I expected there to be 25ish tables running and there weren't but it was Monday. Drink service was fine as none of my table mates were whining about drinks. Dealers are getting better at getting the cards to the players without misdeals and exposed cards but there were waaaaay too many times the table had to tell some of the dealers where or how much the action is. This is a big peeve of mine and if they can't control the table they do not get tipped from me. Jeremy please let them know that they are there to do something besides deal the cards and move chips around. Of course some were great at everything it was just a few that were really bad at it. I've noticed in a alot of casinos the supervisors keeping an eye on the game and checking the dealers actions but have never noticed the supervisors at The Horseshoe watching any hands unless it is for a floor call, is this being done?

I have read your Poker Room Rules pamphlet available in the room. It has some of the basic rules and #14 says tthe Decision of the poker supervisor is final.

Going over Robert Ciaffone’s rules about misdeals I came across this one which has been bothering me because I have seen this happen about 4 or 5 times lately(mostly to an empty seat).

The following is considered a misdeal according to Robert’s rules:

(I) Cards have been dealt to an empty seat or a player not entitled to a hand.

Does management adhere to this rule?

Where is the best place to stay if you want to spend a weekend?

There are a lot of rooms that do not have that rule. I prefer to kill the hand dealt to the empty seat and go on with the hand.

Quick question about the 6/12 limit hold'em game...

When this game runs, what is the average buy-in?

How is the average skill level?

I'm thinking of playing this game the next time I visit. The last time I was there I played 3/6, but the rake is just so damn brutal I would rather play the next highest stakes.

Will I be +EV in this game? I usually 18-table 100NL online for a decent clip and have a bit of limit experience, but nothing substantial over a few hundred hands of 3/6 online.

What online limit would a live 6/12 game at the Shoe compare to?

Also, is there a kill in this game?

Is there a hotel attached to the Shoe? Anything close? Visiting Chicagoland this weekend for daughter's soccer game at Northern Illinois. Currently have reservation at Majestic. How is casino there? I am a relatively profitable 1/2NL and 2/5 player and will probably play those stakes.

Horsehoe is the place to play hands down.

I stayed at the Ramada - $71 and two miles away w/ free shuttle service to/from the casino.

I think they did leave a lot of money on the table by not attaching a hotel though.

As mentioned in a previous thread, there is HOSE and HORSE games here? Any imput on how these game are and how often they are spread? I want to take a vacation but want to be able to find a continuous game 10-20 to 50-100 HORSE or HOSE.

...Anyone? Beuller?

From my short sample experience which was Wed - Sat they had a 40/80 HORSE game going at all times I was there (4pm - 4am)

If you come up for the circuit I think you are nearly certain to have a HORSE game going, but I digress to Raise IT who will answer with authority.

Are the Monday morning Splash Pots still going? Columbus Day=No work this Monday.

As mentioned, last couple times I've gone 40/80 HORSE has been running. I've seen lists for 15/30 or 30/60 HOSE a few times but have never seen it started.

Splash pot was for Sept. It's high hand bonus for Oct.

Anyone have any travel suggestions?

I'm planning on coming up from Champaign to play in the WSOP-C and I will not have a car...

I can get to Chicago OK - the trickier part is getting to Hammond and then to a hotel for the weekend (and back and forth between the casino). I already looked into the Ramada, but it appers they are sold out on the weekend of 10/24-10/26.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm thinking staying somewhere near the Loop might make sense and then take one of the buses from downtown over???

Illini, there are free shuttles from several Chicago locations, including a few hotels like Hyatt McCormack Place - these likely to be expensive - alternative is to stay in AMeristar East Chicago IN or Majestic Star Gary IN (cheaper) & look into cab fares to Horseshoe (less than 10 miles)

As far as the HORSE goes as the previous poster said the 40-80 ran for like 5 days straight this last week. We've had some smaller stakes hose going 10-20, 30-60 but not on a normal basis. If you are headed here for the WSOP I'd imagine we'll have some running on a regular basis. If you plan on doing anything else besides play poker when you're in town the best alternative is to stay in Chicago and take the shuttles that way you'll be downtown with a plethera to do. Even if you take a shuttle that costs money they give you food coupons to use. Not a bad deal from what I've been told by the players. Maybe Jeremy can post some numbers and locations of shuttles.
