Wish granted my son. Won't be long, maybe this weekend.

They are loading the new tables with chips, they should be open soon.

Good news: the downstairs tables are running.
Bad news: the upstairs tables are closed.

They have 11 tables set up downstairs, we're using 9 tonight

Any word on the hours? back to 24x7, or still limited due to staff?

Tonight I went for the first time since March 2020…each of the three lists had about 20 people of it.

I waited 90 minutes and said screw this, as the lists were stagnant. I started as 21st on 2/5 and only made it to 16th. After 125 minutes, I got the text that my seat was available…too bad I was already in The Loop.

They had 8 tables going with games, then 2 empty tables. I only recognized about 4 staff members (either floor or dealers).

I remember being so pumped and excited to play at the Shoe all the time - GVC is going to get the majority of my hours, especially if they are expanding to 24 tables.

"They had eight tables going" DEGENS
"I only recognized...." HORSESHOE decimated poker staffers via firings.

I don't get why they are not hiring more dealers - they are making money hand over fist and the poker room not only profitable but currently filled with empty space.

They really don't want to bump up pay or incentives to attract more dealers? Would love to see them get back to their former glory but does not look like it will happen any time soon which is very sad.

There just isn't enough dealers to run the room fully. They are so short on dealers that they'd rather run the table games( much more profitable) then the poker room over the weekend.

Are the shuttles running again? The Horseshoe website still has the "service suspended" notice from March 2020, but I'm wondering whether that is still true, or they just never bothered to pay attention to their website (not uncommon, even for the best run companies).

I tried calling the phone number for the chinatown shuttle company, but it just goes to voicemail this morning.

Edit: in a stroke of genius (read as: finally had my morning coffee) I just called the casino directly. Apparently no shuttles, which means no poker for me for the foreseeable future.

You can't just go and hire 'Dealers' .. Lost of folks have moved on to other occupations due to how CV was handled.

Dealers need traning, they need to obtain a state license ..and they need to pass a drug test.

There's a lot more to it than 'wanting' to expand .. GL

Okay, I have no idea what Joe Biden has to do with the rake at Horseshoe. That said, I used to be a regular at the room, but I haven't been back since the reopening. Everything I read on this blog makes it sound most unappealing. Bad dealers, small room, long lists, cut back hours, and now this. Why doesn't Hard Rock open a room and stop this madness. It's obvious that Shoe poker will never return to what it once was.

Probably uninteresting but....Back in September, October, early November of 2019, some of the Horseshoe craps player crowd got wind of something called a "bad beat" in Horseshoe poker room. 1/2 games went nuts at night. Some of those guys got stone cold broke and were never seen again (playing poker). But, some survived and were in the poker room all night, every night. For about three months, there were at least three 1/2 tables up all night.
On midnights, between September and early November the bad beat got hit THREE times, for around $100k EACH TIME. Maybe, one was a little less, but it got hit THREE TIMES, when it was $BIG.
After the third time, Horseshoe Hammond management changed the entire structure of "BAD BEAT". Since that change not one huge $100K plus nor anything close has been hit in that room.

(That Bad Beat structure change was advent of the so-called "Legendary Bad Beat Jackpot".)

Just to make sure they get the maximum $6+1 rake, the buy-in for 1–2 NL has increased to $100–300. I wonder how this will affect the 2–5 player pool.

Another dollar rake? That's it for me. TBH poker is mostly dead anyway.

The expansion at Rivers is going well. I have a feeling that will be the place for poker in the near future. Obvious that Shoe's day is done.

There’s still a decent player pool from Lake County, Indiana. They won’t drive out to Rivers in Illinois.

Horseshoe won’t die. But it’ll definitely be on life support unless they get their **** together.

Some of us will do the drive to Rivers in Illinois.
My conscience won't allow me to SPEND MONEY in Horseshoe Hammond. It's a money vacuum cleaner. Add injury to insult, the parent company (a real estate investment trust) by law, does NOT PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAXES! So, customers are paying rakes, tips, etc. AND CASINO'S FEDERAL TAXES.

When rivers open there will be no reason for me to pass it to go to the shoe. I mean shorter drive no toll don't have to worry about gettin shot on the highway. Rivers is a nicer place overall the shoe is a dump now

.

I never minded the ride to Horseshoe, and I always enjoyed the poker room. But I wonder if I'll ever be back. From where I live in Chicago it's about the same mileage to Shoe or Rivers. Rivers is completely non-smoking, so one doesn't have to walk thru London fog to get to the poker room. And if I understood the news reports correctly the room will be on the second floor away from the casino proper. These are all pluses.

So, my feeling is why not wait until Rivers opens? I haven't play live for almost a year and a half. What's a few more months wait?
