Wednesday night is the best week night to play. You will not be bored. Chips should be moving around. There will be ~5 2/5 games running and probably 2 5/T games going.

Search back a few pages .. There are various free shuttle service from various parts of Chicago as well, but it looks like the Chinatown Shuttles are the only ones that run past 1200 AM. I would definitely call and double check how these work as I've got no experience with them as of yet.

Very rare to find a disappointing 2/5 table at the 'shoe .. GL

wtf the hotel situation here is a joke. Trying to book for the wsopc, all the good ones are about 25min away, which is a $40 uber each way -- so only feasible if I rent a car.

Welcome to 'Chicago-land' .. Where industry and old money hold all the cards. And I'm not so sure they want to dig too much for what they'll find either. Also .. don't speed or run a yellow light in that rental.

Speculation of course, but you're not the first to 'misunderstand' what is perceived by so many as lost opportunity. It's possible that they don't want to invest millions only to have Illinois wake up and have someone put something more attractive out by O'Hare. GL

Hmm. I had just assumed the reason it was built right on the border was due to legality preventing IL

hi there

next week i'm in chicago staying around west 25th street and wouldn't mind going to the horseshoe at some point as i think this would be easiest for me to get to without a car and play some poker.

i could just walk to the chinatown archer and wentwort depot and get on a free shuttle bus, or do you have to be a member or something? hopefully this is a safe enough area to do this and hopefully i can work out what bus to get on

one last question, do they have 1/2 or 2/5 NL running 24/7? as not sure when I'd go yet

thanks in advance for any replies

Google Hammond shuttle for info on this. You have to be a rewards member but I think your first time you're allowed to not sign up until you get there. There may be minimum play/stay requirements too. I can't comment on the safety of the walk from your place to the pickup (especially with a wad of cash) but the shuttle stop is near the Chinatown red line stop.

Nope. It's due to taxes, fees, and corruption.

A few years back, a bunch of large businesses (Caterpillar, McDonald's, ect.) were threatening to move out of Illinois. So the state of Illinois gave a few large businesses tax breaks, and screwed everyone else. We also had back-to-back governor's in federal prison, simultaneously. These are just a few examples of what goes on in this state.

You can just hop on the bus; no membership, etc, is required. They give you a return voucher as well. There is an indoor waiting area. Walking over would be an option, although I would prefer ubering.

1/2 and 2/5 NL runs constantly.

Ended up making the track.. so here’s the detailed cliff notes/trip report

Uber Ride to the shoe was 35$, was initially +$50 but continued to check and it dropped that much within 20 minutes. My driver went to the wrong side of the building and then cancelled the trip, had to get another driver and THANK GOD! Her name was Lisa, Spanish, short-ish, and body was just stacked. Ended up exchanging numbers to hang out next time I’m in town so that was a +EV experience.

$1/2 had a list, wanted to play $2/5 anyways and got a seat right away. Bought in for $400, everyone sitting with about the same-ish, but two guys were sitting with about 2k. Overall play at my table was ok.. nobody too crazy which is kind of a downer as I’d prefer a little craziness/bad player(s) but whatevs it was fine. I just like playing with new/different players than normal

Bought in twice for $400 each times ended up losing -$415

Hands noteworthy (no really, so post-worthy for content stake?)

Multiple small pocket pairs. Pocket deuces 4 times, pocket 4s twice (back to back hands).

Pocket 9s from the button 2 limpers, raised to $20, 4 callers to the flop. Flop all overs, checked through, turn whatever, bet/call/I fold.

AQo from SB, folds to me, make it $10, BB (2k stack) calls. Flop A10Xr, bet/call $10, turn x ck/ck, river A, bet $20/called.. probably got the most out of this situation considering I had to have a tighter image.

KQss MP, limped, 2k villian1(directly to my left) makes it $15, 2k villian2 on the button makes it $75, I fold, villian1 calls.. flop AJ10r, ck/bet/call.. rest of streets/action not relevant, would have tripled up.. they both show AQ.

Pocket Qs, opened to $35 from button, 3 callers (4 to flop).. flop K high all clubs (I had no club).. ck through, turn x, UTG leads, I fold, 2k villain calls. River club, both Vs held a K.

AKo from cutoff($225e), LJ(covers) opened to $25, I raised to $75, LJ calls. Flop 28Jr, check/push/tank call. Turn x, river J, LJ tables K2o – bullet one gonzo

Second bullet, table dynamics changed a lot.. table got down to 5 handed, one of the bigger stacks had left, the K2o guy had left after getting felted.. it was getting on the later side so it was time to make my way back to the hotel.

Uber ride home was $54, Derrick was my driver and he held a good conversation.. not nearly as good looking as my other driver but that probably had a lot to do with him being a male, but who knows.

All in all I think I played ok, not great but could of lost a little bit more money. Got decent cards but not really in decent positions so I was a tad limited. Looking forward to coming back, always enjoy playing here.

Can't speak for Hammond, but lots of venues are capping or feeding less promo funds to the BBJ in lieu of HH promos.

Another reason could be that they might be 'out of formula' if Gaming came in for an audit. That's a huge stretch on my part, but possible. GL

Is this the best option in the Chicagoland market? Moving to Chicago (Printer's Row) at the end of the month.

2nd week "bad beat" jackpots still "frozen", while "bad beat" $ drop per pot continues. That joint has fine print which covers everything it does to extract money from poker players.

Yes, definitely. Especially if you're in Printers Row. I live in Wicker Park and the Shoe is about a 35 minute drive without traffic, 45 minute drive with traffic. It will be 5-10 minutes less for you if you're driving. There's also a shuttle service that runs from Chinatown (https://www.caesars.com/horseshoe-ha...hotel/shuttles)

Welcome to Chicago!

Don’t forget your I-Pass for the Skyway...a measly $5.30 toll EACH WAY!

I'm sure this has been discussed ITT over the years, but does anyone have a tried and true route coming from the city that avoids the skyway toll? Every time I pass through, I get pissed off lol.

Not a 'city side' reg, but the routes from Wicker Park are to jump off I-90/94 at Soldier Field/I-55/95th and take Lake Michigan Drive (41). I've taken the LMD route and it was fine but currently it adds 20 mins to the 'fastest' 28 min route via the Skyway. Routes vary from 34 to 48 minutes depending on where you cut across. I assume the shuttle just takes the Skyway since it may have a different pass and/or it's just part of the cost for the quickest route.

Talk to your local Uber/GrubHub/Pizza guys to see how they maneuver around the south side.

Is there more of a safety concern along 41/LMD? GL
