re: Horseshoe Baltimore (Baltimore, MD) -- FAQ in OP, added 2014.09.09

stopped by for about 90 min after the raven's game. several people at the table said they didn't have to pay to park. most of them said they told the attendant they were there just to play poker and they let them in. not sure if that will always be the case or what.

really liked the room. a few more tv's would be nice but i think the fact that the room is just a gigantic square, more tv's wouldn't really change much unless they were 60+ inch tv's. room is very well lit which i liked. i had a few dealers that were clearly knew so i didn't really have much of a problem that they were dealing/counting chips slowly but i DO have a problem with the fact that they didn't work hard to keep the action moving. several times a player would be talking for 7+ seconds when it was on them to act. i had to speak up because the dealer was just sitting there waiting on them. to me, that is something that can be corrected immediately.

action is definitely good. lots of gambool in the players. had two guys sit down at my table because their previous table was "too aggressive and people were calling $50 preflop with 89 offsuit" sigh.

thought the staff was very friendly, willing to answer questions, help players get settled etc. wasn't too crowded but the two drink girls we had came around quite frequently so no complaints there.

Does anyone have experience cabbing back and forth to the general area of the casino from BWI? Last weekend, I stayed at the Sheraton Inner Harbor. But the Westin by BWI looks like a much cheaper deal most weekends. Wondering (a) what the cost of cabbing would be, and (b) whether there would be any reluctance from cabbies to make the trip 9especially back out to BWI in the middle of the night. I think the trip is less than 10 miles . . .

Thanks,

Pete

$25-30 dollars, there are airport-specific cabs. It's ~100% certain that there will be a cab line at the casino most weekend nights. I've never heard of a cabbie turning down that fare/trip. Not like BWI is North Ave or something.

No, but if you turn right on Russell, you can access I-95 by taking the exit just past M&T Bank Stadium.

What else would they use to track it? Not trying to be a dick, I've just never heard of it being done differently than this

$150K over 120 days works out to $1250 a day or about $52 an hour that they are going to be paying out.

Is this coming from the Jackpot drop? If so, will only play in Jackpot drop games earn hours?

Nope. Several places have had promotions where people with a certain number of hours are directly given money. No drawing involved. I think most grinders would prefer that, but most casual players would not.

So, Carl Casual plays 20 hours and gets $20 back while Greg Grinder plays 120 hours and gets $120 back? That sort of promotion?

Grinders would prefer that?

I heard Sands had a promotion where 5 players with the most hours logged for the month got a cash bonus, that sounded pretty good to me.

That will draw 0 recreational players, perhaps even drive them away. And you are left with grinders cannibalizing grinders.

Even most grinders would know they have 0 chance at it and not put in extra hours.

Fair point. I guess the best way to look at this promotion is that I'll make money off of the recreational players it will bring in, and will still have a shot at a juicy 3K bonus.

When I played at the Hard Rock Tampa they used to do gas cards. 20 hours per week got you a 150 dollar gas card, and the promotion ran for 4 weeks.

I think their goal is to create a committed clientellle that would keep tables running. I am guessing their fear is having recreationals visit only nnot being able to find a game going. Meanwhile, they cultivate brand loyalty on the people who do compete for the promotion.

re: Horseshoe Baltimore (Baltimore, MD) -- FAQ in OP, added 2014.09.09

I was initially very excited about the Horseshoe opening. Anthony did talk up a good game, but unfortunately games are not happening. I played during the soft opening and grand opening and then returned once to find only 1 2-5 game running on a Friday night and tried to use my Diamond card to jump the list, but was denied even after showing them their own website benefits. It was clarified later that diamonds and up do get priority seating, but I've never seen 5-10 run and 2-5 has had maybe 3 tables at one point. I'm sorry, but until you consistently have a daily 5-10 running at least toward the evening and multiple 2-5 games, there is no reason for me to jump ship. Their lounge has no finger foods like other properties, they don't have a car service and I just am not seeing a reason to show up yet. I mostly play time rake games, so jackpots are of little interest to me, so I don't care about what Live is doing right now or what the Shoe isn't doing.

So what do you have Anthony?

+1. Knowing my hard work and effort will be rewarded with a reasonable prize is much more likely to keep me at the tables than having a snowballs chance in hell at a huge prize. Casual players know they probably won't win, nor will they want to have to be at the location in order to win on a specific date, so I don't think it does much to keep the games running.
